Would you buy a licensed port of Putty Squad for the Atari Jaguar?
NinSEGA replied to NinSEGA's topic in Atari Jaguar
That would be an interesting venture for sure! Who currently owns the rights to that now? -

Since the game is available for download from System 3's website ( http://www.system3.com/promotional-download/puttysquadamiga/ ) and they don't mind if you use an emulator to play it, have at it! For the emulator, I recommend either M.E.S.S. or UAE. -
If you want a bad Star Fox clone with terrible controls for 100 smackers, then go for it. But only if you think a bad game with terrible controls results in a double negative.

An Amiga homebrew guy managed to get in touch with System 3, so it isn't entirely out of the realm of being possible. EDIT: And I would like to see a James Pond port, too But we can't have everything... -
This is just a boring Monday topic, so please forgive me. A little bit of backstory for those of you who aren't aware: An HD remake of the original Putty Squad (which only saw a PAL SNES release originally) was recently released on PS4 in North America and a PS4 launch title in Europe with PS Vita, PS3, 3DS, and Xbox 360 versions planned at a later date. Pic: The original Putty Squad's title screen. This game has quite a conspiracy behind it because it was supposed to be released on more platforms than just the Super Nintendo back in the 1990s. One of the platforms it was destined for was the Amiga, but it never came out due to retailers supposedly ceasing support of all things Amiga. Which is odd, because the Amiga sold really well in that market and was considered the home of the Putty series. What's bizarre about this whole situation is that the Amiga version was reviewed in several video game publications (getting 90% or better averages), so everyone expected that version to come out. Apparently a demo of the Amiga version did come bundled with some magazines, but that wasn't enough to satiate the fans of the game. Flash forward to nowish: Some awesome chap named John Jones-Steele who is known for being a brilliant Amiga programmer contacted Mark Cale, the CEO of System 3, about releasing the source code for the game. John managed to acquire the source code and converted it into a working game from the masters and as a gift to the fans, made it a free download for all to enjoy during Christmas 2013. More about the story can be read here- http://www.codetapper.com/amiga/interviews/galahad-masters-amiga-putty-squad/ So, would any of you be interested in an Atari Jaguar version of this game? If so, which Atari Jaguar developer or developers would you like to see work on it? *Please keep in mind that this is all hypothetical. I will not be held accountable for your dreams being shattered.

I should have worded that better. The source code to Putty Squad wasn't tossed in the trash like the majority of abandoned games out there, so it's readily available in the sense that if you get the rights to use it from System 3, you'll have viable source code to work with. I hope one of the Jaguar programming teams actually go through with that idea one day. They'd be guaranteed to sell out of all of their copies, especially if they advertise it on this site.

How do the guys behind emulators do it?
-
Just copy/paste the libraries from another game.
-
If you are serious (doubtful), you'd be better off gathering a bunch of college students that are invested in programming but have free time on their hands. You'll also need a devkit unit for everyone to use. Then Kickstarter the hell out of that shit. However, start on a small project like porting a game like Putty Squad with readily-available source code to the system (but make sure you get the license from the original devs/pubs first!).
-
I'd like to see this game ported to the Jaguar- I'm sure System 3 would be lenient in terms of licensing it out.
-
As is Another World, which is an actual game.

Can't make out what the hell's going on in the front of the box there.

An ultra-rare NUON Enhanced DVD Player (aka JAGUAR 3) for Christmas?
NinSEGA replied to QLvsJAGUAR's topic in Atari Jaguar
Very interesting topic and I'm glad some of you go out of your way to keep record of this stuff. Is there a site out there that has listed every NUON game .ISO? I don't own a NUON personally, but I was just curious since I feel this obscure stuff should be readily available for all to use. Video games as an art form and all that. -
What's the deal with Putty Squad?
NinSEGA replied to NinSEGA's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Thank you for the information. Now I have a clearer understanding of what happened. It's good that they care more about the fans by releasing it for free rather than making money on it. -
I spotted it for PS4 at Best Buy yesterday and I was like "What the hell is a Super Nintendo game doing on a retail PS4 disc?" Then I came across these threads on NeoGAF- http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=758231 http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=723841&page=2 They seem to beat around the bush instead of blatantly coming out and saying what actually happened. Was this a vaporware title for the Amiga that finally saw a release on current systems? If so, why did it take so long?

Good news!

Me stating a 'harsh reality' isn't the same as me liking that harsh reality. I do prefer me some physical media, especially when it comes to video games. But you have to admit that the internet has killed the newspaper/magazine industry. Look at EGM, GamePro, and Nintendo Power, instruction booklets being absent in games and the never-ending complaint about newspaper sales being at an all-time low year-after-year. But it will be a while before some disappear entirely. I'm sure Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner have their reasons for keeping certain printed materials widely available.

Is it me, or do Jaguar carts not fit in those universal cases? I can't seem to find a way to get Elansar back into the box it came in. I just beat the game last night and want to place it on my shelf until I want to play it again.

Those pricing mags are no longer valid because eBay completed listings dictate prices and internet >>>>>>>>>>>*∞ magazines/newspapers. Paper-based media have gone the way of the Betamax.

You could say that this bump was... cryptic.

Those things stick to my hands whenever they are wet.

I do prefer the black-keyed controller to the grey-keyed one because of the "oomph" the three red buttons and the D-pad give me. The grey-keyed controller's D-pad does have some use, though. Probably if you want to speed run Bubsy I guess.
