I mean, is it officially supported by 8 bit unity?

The 8-bit Unity site does not state that 5200 is a supported target: just the Atari XL/XE computers.  I'd love to be wrong, though.

A search of their website reveals the developer speaking of 5200/Atari XL seies in general terms BUT not specifically mentioning 5200 support.

Another 8bit-Unity user asked your question with no response.  So, not a good sign.

  2. What's the better console?

    XEGS or 7800?

IMO, the XEGS as it was a (or another) consolized Atari 8-bit computer.  Also, the design of the XEGS screams 1980s even more than the black and silver electronic look sported by the 7800.

IMHO 7800 is the better console, but XEGS has the better native library.  If you factor in homebrews, though maybe that tips the scale. 7800 homebrews are incredible.  2600 compatibility is also a big plus for me so I don't have to keep my 2600 hooked up.  I sold my XEGS, but still play my 7800 pretty regularly... I guess that says it all.  "Better" is personal preference.

No, I don't like screen crunch. But some of the games are still pretty fun regardless of this issue.

A belated one? I wonder how Atari had fared if instead of trying different new architectures that didn't hold water, had decided early on to use the A8 chipset and put out the 5200 a full year earlier, perhaps even simultaneously with the VIC-20 (that pitched itself against the 2600).

Never played the 5200 much.  We were always an Atari home computer family and never had any Atari consoles.  The kids across the street did get it on year for Christmas and I really enjoyed that Football game they had for it. Was the best console football game to date inho.

  6. Fiddling around with ideas for a game & I kinda like the gravitational physics of Rare's Jetpac. Can this be done? What coding tricks should I use?
  7. You mean this. Note: this was partially found by myself a few forums back.
  8. Can you describe what the commercials are to your best knowledge.
  9. Love the 7800 ad, I know that aired in Australia but did the 7800 ad air here in the States?
  10. That's nice, but did they advertise this promotion on tv?
  11. Anybody remember Atari advertising their consoles in 1989 & 1990? I'd like to hear your guy's stories on Atari's ad campaigns post 1988.
  12. Any North American Atari ST fans here? Raise your hands if you are! :)

Have owned ST/TT computers over the years, and play ST games on the Atari Jaguar!

I have a fascination with the ST.  I'm always curious to see how games turned out on it because of the lack of sprites and scrolling.  It's like wanting to see a car wreck.

It definitely is a 16-bit console, even more than the TI-99/4A is a 16-bit computer.

Actually I think the Unisonic Champion 2711 may have been the very first 16-bit video games console.

@carlssonI'm aware that it's a 16-bit console, I was referring to it from a graphical standpoint i.e. Graphics

I usually consider it as such, since it's firmly in that generation, but it depends on the context of the conversation.

  16. @Atarius Maximus Amazed by your work on Dungeon Stalker, will this work with 320 mode?
  17. Portions of the game would use 320 hi-res mode for scenes, is this possible?
  18. I plan on making a story based platformer, but How do I make bitmap screens on 7800 Basic let alone making a title screen? Is there any tools I should use?
  19. Was the 7800 sold in Japan?

    1. carlsson

      carlsson

I didn't see any online references to prove it. Possibly direct imported by an enthusiast, if sold at all. The market was kind of crowded as it was with Famicom, SG-1000 and Mark ///, Super Cassette Vision, eventually PC Engine, not to mention various computers. Atari as a brand seems to have had brief runs in Japan. I wonder if even the ST series were imported.

  20. Thanks @Karl G, but I want it to be simplified as I'm still new to Batari.
  21. I can make my player move in all directions, But I want him to move left & right & jump can anyone supply me with easy to understand platformer code? Below is a demo blank.bas.bin
  22. We all know that the C64 was given the console treatment as the C64 Game System to compete against Nintendo & SEGA, but what Console Generation does it really fall under. Wikipedia says it Third Generation, but it launched in December 1990. The Forth Generation was already in full swing by then worldwide. The real question I'm asking is does it fall under Third Gen or Forth Gen?
  23. Made some backgrounds using the image converter, I want to this. (Pictured Below) How can this be achieved?
