I made an sample picture of a dog me and my girlfriend sometimes take care of. The archive contains pictures of every necessary step, the source code and of course the bin/a78 files. First I took a picture with a size of 320x200 than I resized the image width (/2) and reduced the number of colors. The result was converted by 78gfxconv. For your own image you just have to replace the "beropic.bin" generated by the tool with your own image and adjust the color palette. I just tested it on Prosystem Emu the colors may look different on a real 7800 (well I am quite sure the look different...) bero.zip

No the tool isn't able to create self running code.Overall it's more a developer tools than an easy to use picture converter. Of course you can take the "haunted" source as template you just have to replace the gfx binary and change the color palette. The only thing that I am wonder about is the size of the binary 96kb is far to big for a picture the normal size for an 160x4 converted picture is 16kb.

Atariage wrong place for coders?
Schmutzpuppe replied to Heaven/TQA's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Maybe right, I guess there is allways more than one reason. No, the 6502 and the 6507 are basically the same. The main difference is that the 6507 only has a 13Bit adress bus. -
Atariage wrong place for coders?
Schmutzpuppe replied to Heaven/TQA's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The 2600 just has the greater fanbase and therefore more coders (at least for me it is logical). The good thing is that the whole Atari 8-bit line use the "same" cpu so the a8 bit guys can participate from the experience of the 2600 coders and as you saw yourself they are allways willing to help. The Polish community is a completely different story because of the historical background. -
Sorry I don't have a Stella adapter so I can't help here.I use the USB version of the competition pro unfortunately also only one button. Btw. I attached a (totaly unoffical) version of emu7800 that allows you to run frogger without the gfx. problem. I am sure the next version of emu7800 will also have this fix emu7800patched.zip

I don't think that it has something to do with the header and I ask myself why you see frogger in the list!? Normaly you have to feed the ROMProperties.csv with the currect values to see a game listed. .NET 2.0 isn't far away so I hope we see an updated version soon

Bad to hear but as I mentioned before I am not able to reproduce it.Maybe I am running out of cpu cycles!? PAL has more cycles left during vertical blank that could be the cause that it work without problems on PAL devices. Did the last version without music worked for you? Hm, I guess I need some testing help to solve this. Oops, I bet you ran out of DMA cycles on a scan line. You're testing this on real hardware, right? Also, would PAL possibly have a few more DMA cycles on each scan line than an NTSC unit? I haven't thought about this before, but it seems possible. 945518 I don't think so because I didn't change the DL and DLL in the last versions.I had the case that I run out of DMA cycles and the result was that all the data out of the cycle range just wasn't visible but there was no flicker. If I understand it correctly the whole screen flickers every 5 seconds, right?

Overall Prosystem is the best I think even if it isn't perfect. I like the MESS sound more and EMU7800 is the only one with HSC support.

Bad to hear but I can understand you. I think there is no need leave the community completely just lower the effort. It would be nice to hear from you from time to time.

The collisoin detection worked quite good for me now but I will check it again especially you problem with the the diving turtles. Super Mario Clone being written now
Schmutzpuppe replied to analmux's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
In some way I can understand Mux feelings because for me feedback is a big part of the fun even if it is good or "bad" but it should be constructive. If I only program just for my fun in most cases it would be enough for me to do tech demos and than go on writing something new. You don't have to take care about all the stuff that's not directly visible but are essential for a game (and it's a huge part). From my point of view the last SMB demo was maybe 30% of the game so I was surprised as Mux mentioned that the game would be finished soon (no offence I just wonder about that). As someone mentioned before a game like that is maybe a bit too ambitious for one person at least it takes a lot of time and patience to finalize it if you just do it as a hobby. As I hinted before in the past I wrote a lot of small "tech demos" but only managed to complete a few programs. All this stuff is forgotten only the one completed flying around and some people had or have fun with it so it's absolutely worth the effort to finalize projects. One word to RMT and G2F, these are great tools and help a lot if you need static pictures or cool music but again this is only a small (but surly important) part of a game. I would say about 5% or 10% and not 95% of the final product. And a final word to Mux, I hope you keep up your work on SMB. The stuff you already did is very cool a final game would be amazing -
Here is a bugfixed version where the "empty hole" bug shouldn't occur anymore and also the sound problem at the end of the level is fixed. There was one more bug that nobody seems to notice. I said the version would have more level which is true but I forgot to disable the three level limit so you where only able to see the levels >3 if you skip them using the "select" button. Now you can reach all level by playing the game. Frogger.zip
-
Pleased to hear that This is because the last croc position is cleared after the frog jumps into a hole even if the hole is the one you jumped in. I know this bug but didn't fixed it (yet). This is a new one I'll check it out. Thanks for the feedback Cro§Bow! There is one more bug I know, sometimes you can jump over the lady frog. Anyone found anymore bugs?

Looks great. An adventure looking like that would be great but I am afraid it would be huge.

Yes... it's still a dream... But it's not pokey's fault. BTW. While searching the net, I found a tune beginning with "thal".... The result is a "tribal" version of a known tune. Some parts miss some filter slides, but I surely will not write a new RMT 941732 Sounds cool! Isn't it the Sanixon music of Hubbard?
-
Did you had the same problem with older versions and do you have PAL or NTSC? Anyone else have this problem? 942213 Yes, I have the flicker problem as well. NTSC though I have a PAL 7800 also. Mitch 942408 That's bad. So it's seems to be a general NTSC issue, it runs fine on my PAL device. The problem is that I don't have to chance to reproduce it
-
Which version was the last one that worked for you? And what kind of distortions you see/hear? I really need to buy an NTSC Device... Did you had the same problem with older versions and do you have PAL or NTSC? Anyone else have this problem?

Here is an updated version of Frogger. This version has more music, more levels and the "speed up timer". The music sounds a bit scratched with the Prosystem Emu, Mess sounds better but unfortunately the top of the display isn't visible. frogger.zip

But the source code isn't available to the public or do you have any download link? Would be cool Archon is one of my all time favourite.

Damn I lose the Minigame deadline...
Schmutzpuppe replied to Schmutzpuppe's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I think the point is that you could submit it to this years competition instead? Chris 940119 hm, right I will think about it but I am not sure if the contest need the same type of game three times in a row (last year the great cave 1k and 2003 the old superfly version). -
Any MotherShip Destroying Games like Phoenix?
Schmutzpuppe replied to Atari Smeghead's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The Atari version hasn't a mother ship but the intellivision version has one. -
Damn I lose the Minigame deadline...
Schmutzpuppe replied to Schmutzpuppe's topic in Homebrew Discussion
It was done long before the deadline I just forgot to submit it. -
It sounds like Depeche Mode but it' it's from a German band called Camouflage and the name of the song is "the great commandment".
-
Thanks guys. You keep up the motivation I am still working on it. The latest release has only the "startup" music.

The emulators are helpfull but you are right they have too much quirks to do "serious" development. Three? holy s...! On the other hand you are right. I guess I would stop developing if my CC2 would get broken (I doesn't even want to think about it...)
