  1. SNES version has continues you can collect, which I don't think you can get in the arcade without dropping in another quarter. I also think blocking is easier, though I am not much of a blocker anyway.

This is one of the greatest games of all time IMO.

  2. But is that Achievements site 'official'? I don't really follow Xbox, so I am not sure.

I honestly can't say I see any holes in J.Max's arguments, regardless of whatever contrary rumours are out there.

I can't see Marvel agreeing to a re-release of this game when the characters are now so different. As J.Max mentions, you'd need new sprites - Hulk for one, hasn't looked anything like he does in MvC2 in almost a decade.

  3. My friend and I discovered Star Force by accident back in the day. They had NES games for $20 at the local department store, which was an absolute steal back when games weren't routinely 29.99 4 months after they came out.

Anyway he picked Star Force, I grabbed Cybernoid. Needless to say he got the much better deal and I couldn't get him to trade for even a weekend for the longest time.

I totally recommend playing with a QuickShot XII if you have one

  4. .... and 4 years after this thread, I finally hooked up my Super Scope this weekend. I didn't realise I'd had it that long until I read that last post of mine :) .

First thing I thought when I tried out Super Scope 6, was "this is WAY better than the Zapper". This is primarily because it is accurate, stunningly accurate even. Something like Battle Clash would never float on NES because you could never pinpoint so exactly (Well, at least I couldn't). Battle Clash lets you take out specific limbs, shoot incoming missiles etc, and my arms don't ache from holding out a hand gun for 45 minutes.

The points here about it taking a lot batteries are true, but it's not like batteries are expensive or rare or something. And yes, it's bulky, but miles more comfortable than any handgun light guns I've used and much easier to aim with precision

I never did find Yoshi's Safari, nor TinStar, but over the years I've grabbed a couple Super Scope games. T2 the Arcade Game does work with it, but I don't like it and never did. So far it's all about Battle Clash and the pack in cart - particularly the Confront game in Laser Blazer

Ditto on this. Manipulating photos on a very basic level was not fun. The Wario Ware game did not work half of the time and when it did, it sucked. I don't think I understand the DSi. They took away the GBA slot and gave us a portable EyeToy that doesn't always work and I have zero interest in using even if it did.

When Figgler badmouths a Nintendo product, you know it is not good. He gave it, let's say, a four out of ten there. Using the adjustable Captain N scale, that makes it... approximately.... hmmm... leprosy on anyone else's scale. :)

 Just to be clear - I don't think it's all bad. Downloading games is cool, and I see a tonne of potential there. I also played Birds and Beans and it was okay, but not anything more than a cute mini-game. Though, it was apparently only like $2 or so.

I just don't understand what the rest of the system is for. Who cares about a camera? The photo thing is dumb and I hate it on the Wii too. Why does Nintendo think everyone is so snap-happy? I guess for kids, they probably don't own a camera of their own, and so this is cool for them. Same with the music thing I guess, but these features are nothing to me. The Wario Ware game I mentioned used the camera exclusively. You had to set the system on a table, the lighting had to be perfect (forget playing in the basement), and then you flail around like an idiot. This is not the same as flailing around like an idiot on Wii however, because 1) Wii works and 2) people watching you play Wii can see the TV and what you are trying to do. With Wario Ware, you're looking at this box on the table, trying to stay in the camera's frame of reference and no one can see why you're doing any of this, so you look and feel stupid. Forget the fact that this is impossible to play on the subway or anywhere in public.

Based on the WW game alone, it makes me think of the original GameBoy. You know, the 'portable' system that was best played when you sat in one spot and had the lamp angled just right or else you couldn't see the screen.

I think I'm just in a critical mood today :|

  6. I was able to play one at my friend's house, and all I was able to mutter was:

    "Meh"

  7. They opened one here in Toronto about 6 weeks ago and I found out and went over last week. Pretty slick decor inside and nice guys working there. I looked only at the retro section that was basically one display case. Overpriced on some things like Zelda Ocarina of Time for 59.99, but cheaper NES games, etc. I picked up a copy of Lost Vikings 2 for SNES at $14 - a very good price for a game you never see in the wild

  8. I see both sides.

If you think of hockey, you play it and it always has a random factor, you will never ever play the same game twice. And it's true that memorising something isn't playing, unless you are weird.

Though at the same time - I feel the competition factor is what makes deterministic games 'playable', if you will. You are playing against yourself or other people to see who can do it better. Competing at something fun is playing.

  9. I hadn't played this game for a few years, so cleaned it off and gave it a go this weekend.

It quickly came flooding back to me how truly great this game is. Play control is spot on and each of the characters play very differently. Music is great, lots of moves (and very different per character), beautiful visuals all around, good challenge (I never have finished it). Hell, even dying in Ninja Warriors is totally awesome, the way the ninjas' outfit and skin blows off, then they slowly fall to their knees and explode.

I think that even a marginal fan of beat em ups has to love this game. I honestly can't complain about anything here. I can't even think of anything I'd wish was improved - other than the fact that the game can't go on forever. If I wasn't at work, I'd be playing this now. I want to finally beat it, with each character if I can.

    Play this game!

  10. Well, obviously there's always the Digital Press guide, but I'm not a Nintendo guy and can't really speak for its overall accuracy with regard to rarity or price.

Thanks for the link. Not sure about this list though they have Marvel Superheroes War of the Gems as the same rarity as Super Mario World. Unless Marvel Superheroes sold millions of copies, I can't see how this is true.

Is there a definitive list somewhere based only on how many copies exist, not how available they are or how much they cost?
