  1. I did a search here and found out there used to be one on gamerzuniverse.net, but I think that site is dead.

Does anyone have a decent guide that is not the 2006 Jason Fleck list? The Fleck version is pretty useless far as I am concerned both in rarity ratings and price values. Did you know that Street Figther Alpha 2 is worth as much as SF2 Turbo? ,and that Chester Cheetah 2 is just as common as Super Mario World?

What I want is a list that is based ideally on production run counts and/or overall sales - not some guy looking at eBay auctions for 2 years and basing rarity off how many times a game is listed and how much it sells for.

    Cheers in advance guys

  2. so what I don't get.

if dvd's are so cheap to make, why isn't there a sea of good ps2 games being rereleased along side this price drop at prices so low that buying used would be stupid? Why isn't there a bin of them everywhere, like there is with dvd movies, that are in the $1-$5 range. none of this $15-$40 garbage that we have now.

It's about retaining the perceived value of the item. Video games that cost less than $5 are obviously only cheap because they suck. You know, that kind of thinking.

Also, if you just bought PS2 Jak & Daxter for $3, how likely would you be to ever purchase PS3 Jak & Daxter for $70?

  3. I had an NES in the 80s, but just barely. I beleive I got it for my 11th or 12th birthday which would have been 1988 or 1989. I got just the standard Control Deck, with no games so my dad took me to Consumer's Distributing (remember them?) and I picked out Kid Icarus.

The really cool thing was that year my whole family teamed up to support the new NES for my birthday - so I also got Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Zelda 2 and Pro Wrestling that year. Talk about a sweet line up to start your NES off with ;)

  4. Here's my newest list. Batman Returns I am going to go back to tonight and see if I can finish it on the hardest difficulty. Justice League perhaps also. It's a better fighter than most people give it credit for.

    SNES

    Death and Return of Superman

    Batman Returns

    Justice League: Task Force

  5. You're crazy. This is exactly what I want. If it's not nostalgic for you, too bad. I wish we'd declare forward movement of graphics over and be content with attractive 8-bit and 16-bit graphics forever.

    Agreed.

Gradius Rebirth may not have done it perfectly, but I whole heartedly commend this 'retro' effort. Capcom did it wonderfully with MegaMan 9, and the more companies that make new retro games, the less jaded toward modern gaming as a whole I will be. We all know that 16 bit was the golden age of gaming and it's been downhill since. ;)

  6. Woah, I totally did not see this TV collecting thing coming, as I was mostly joking. I should know better than to underestimate the collecting bug by now.

Personally I am not willing to take the 'authentic experience' issue to this level. In cicumstances where the original hardware sucks, I am willing to upgrade. TVs are a good example of this I guess, as is the original Gameboy. The display on the original GB is blurry and shitty, so I only ever play GB games on a Super Gameboy or an GBASP, neither of which is technically the 'original hardware', but they are each superior to the original GB in basically every way and are each authentic.

  7. Technically shouldn't we really be maintaining 25 year old televisions if we really want to play these games as they originally were meant to be? The console is really only half the hardware as far as I am concerned, but none of us has any issue playing an old system on a TV that is in every way superior to those the system originally was designed for. So, I wonder why console hardware is really so different.

Just musing and playing devil's advocate here of course.

  8. The only classic systems I really collect for any more are SNES and original GameBoy and as a rule of thumb, I'll always prefer the actual cartridge to any other means.

However, in cases where it's too difficult to get the game (like Ogre Battle or Japanese imports), I'm willing to go the VC route.

There are other things to consider too, like battery life. I was thinking about starting up a new city in SimCity for SNES, but I am worried the battery could fail since it's getting old now and downloading the VC version seems like a good fix.

  9. Thanks for the link!

I will buy this right away if it comes out over here. We did get New Adventure Island on VC, so I'd hope this'll be available too

    Things I noticed;

    - it looks like the boss from the first AI is in the game (!) You know, that rhino-head dude?

    - item management looks cool, like a more advanced version of what we got in AI2 and 3, minus the dinos and with some other features thrown in, like unlokcable items

    - what is the deal with that spastic hump-jump power he has?

    - modifying Higgins' outfit sort of reminds me of Super Adventure Island 2

    - skate boarding mini-game!!

    - I'd rather have sprites over the 3D model look, but I do realise this is 2009

    - I wish I could read the tex/understand Japanese :(

  10. I beat the game yesterday and enjoyed it. I know the part you are talking about though, and throughout the game there are a couple more similar or more difficult parts. But, it is a platformer after all. Also, didn't this start as a PSP game? Some of the graphics seem left over, but others aren't and I think they've spruced it up sufficiently for a budget Wii title. All in all I'd give it a  and recommend it to any platforming fans, especially at the price I paid.

  11. As the title asks, do you ever regret owning more than one of the current video game systems?

I was looking over my game library and couldn't believe the amount of games I have to start playing and/or finish playing because I own each of the current systems:

Wii: Chocobo's Dungeon, Wario Shake It, Endless Ocean, Order Up, Tales of Symphonia, Harvest Moon, Bully, Manhunt 2, World of Goo

PS3: PixelJunk Monsters, Crash Commando's, Far Cry 2, Valkyria Chronicles, GTA 4, Civilization, Haze, Resistance 2, F.E.A.R

360: Left 4 Dead, Civil War: Secret Missions, Gears of War 2, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Endwar, Namco Virtual, Orange Box

In all honesty, you could play nothing but these games for the rest of your life and never experience everything there is in all of them. You've just got collector sickness - I suffer from it also. ;) The issue is that modern games are just too big, there are too many of them, we like games and have some extra money. I have only one current system and more than half of my library hasn't been played.

  12. I think that was the story of the original Mario Bros - that they were plumbers in the NY sewer system. I don't think I've heard mention of that though since the Super Mario Bros Super Show. Mind you, I haven't heard anything that outright contradicts it either.

Also, I think Peach was changed to the original Japanese name over time, just like Dr Eggman

  13. This is clearly just a matter of wording. So what's the top selling, stand-alone game in history? From the last time I checked, I believe its' SMB 3.

SMB3 ended up as a pack-in too guys.

I am not sure why it should matter how or why it was purchased or what marketing tactic was employed to sell it. No difference in my view.

Game is made available for purchase, money changes hands, ownership changes hands, it's a sold product - end of story.

  14. You know what bums me out? Animals don't give you pictures any longer. In WW that was a big part of the game for me - that if you built a relationship with an animal in your town and they really liked you, they'd give you their picture, like an exclusive item you could only get from them. With that element gone, what is the point of even acknowledging your townies now? So I can fetch things for them or give them new sayings over and over again? That got old weeks ago.

  15. I also thought it was a steal when getting it for €9,99 - at least until I played it :(

I'm at level 4 or 5 now and I am digging. Just a simple action platformer, which I enjoy. Reminds me of Ratchet and Clank in a way, but with a spooky Burton-esque theme. The good thing about buying $10 games is that I expect basically nothing and if it turns out to be pretty fun, I'm rather impressed.

  16. I didn't play Smackdown vs Raw 2008, though I've heard it was bad I can't really compare.

    So let's do plus/minus with 2009;

    Plus +

    - lots of matches in Exhibition mode (this is basically what I play, running like a fantasy fed)

    - 6 story modes - a WrestleMania build up story with 6 different guys to play as

    - tournament mode is pretty good

    - Career mode (I haven't tried this)

    - CAW is pretty deep, but too complicated for me right now

    - online is fun, but NO one plays anything other than 1 on 1 fights. Plus I suck. You can do 4 and 3 ways, and tag too. (This is why I need WFC friends)

    - big roster (40?) and the guys look like themselves for the most part

    - unlockable content

    - Wii controls are good and fun, like interactive entrances and post match antics, and fairly intuitive moves.

    - music and voice work are pretty solid

    Minus -

    - Crowd looks like total shit.

    - stats are sometimes glitchy and incorrect

    - Wii controls are not perfect

    - no way to share CAWs, over WFC or otherwise that I can see

    Plus+ or Minus- ??

    - No region specific damage - there is just one health bar.

    - There are several playable Divas

    - Has a pick up and play feel to it. More arcadey than say, Day of Reckoning

    - No WWE Legends, unless you count Tazz and Ric Flair who only retired this year

  17. Legacy of the Wizard – This is a fun action, puzzle, RPG game. You control five family members on a quest to slay a dragon. It is hard but that is why it drives some players away. If you don’t read the manual it is all most imposable to beat. I’m working on it now but hope to beat it before next month.

One of the greatest games ever made IMO. I am proud to brag about finishing it too. I've only ever known one other person who has done it
