Wii Trailers and Commercials are so damn gay.
figgler replied to ManShowBoy's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Remember how this started with Bioshock outselling Metroid and how surprising that was? I was just aiming to point to a reason why this might be happening and why it isn't unexpected. So what you think he's not being a tool like usual? Something valuable to contribute to the Wii community in a Wii forum perhaps, or did he appear only to argue with me and talk about Xbox here? What's that definition of trolling again? Wake up man. -

Yes I know you are right and by no means am I trying to say any game type isn't fun. However, by fun games here I'm pointing to simple fun stuff with little depth. Like Wii Play. Call them fun, call them casual, it's all semantics really. None of this really reflects how I feel about either system, but each of them do have a stigma or a label about what games they are supposed to have, who buys them and why. That's how it is and has been with consoles for a long time. I'm pointing out that Metroid is doing well despite this label and helping to shed Wii's stigma of casual fun (i.e. no depth). That's it. -

Dude this just shows I'm right. The 360 games in this list are a shooter and a sports game. So you can expand the "shooter system" comment to include shooters and sports if you want. It doesn't change anything. The stigma with Wii is that it's the "fun system", casual gamers only, no "real" games. And here we have a big time shooter for Wii "a real game" in the top 10. Where's the casual, party or fun 360 game on this list? Would you expect Fusion Frenzy 2 to do well on the "hardcore" 360? Probably not, and if I'm correct, it didn't. Would you expect a "hardcore" shooter to do well on the casual Wii? But it is. That's my point. Either buy and play Wii, or quit trolling this board. -
A few more games to add to the list; Final Fantasy III - DS Touch Detective - DS Bonk's Adventure - GB Bonk's Revenge - GB Duck Tales - GB Metal Slug 1 - Wii Bomberman '93 - Wii Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Wii Final Fantasy IV Advance - GBA New Adventure Island - Wii Pokemon Pearl Version - DS Contra (Konami Classics Arcade Hits) - DS Dragon's Curse - Wii RoboCop - NES Yoshi's Island DS - DS Metal Slug 2 - Wii Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - Wii Star Wars - NES

Japan Club Nintendo Exclusive DS Games
figgler replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Modern Console Discussion
It sure was a different game. I didn't actually click on the link in the original post at the time. The game I was thinking of is something about Tingle collecting gems and everything he does cost money, including jumping. Sounded cool and I'm still hoping it comes over here. -
This sounds pretty cool to me, even if the game is shallow, which you know it will be. Simple fun a la Wii Play with a Zelda theme. There is a really cool sequence you might remember from ocarina of Time, where Link rides Epona and takes out targets with his bow while riding to earn a heart container. It was a pretty good time and something similar here would be welcomed, especially considering I wasn't expecting the Zapper to come with anything at all. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162657

Japan Club Nintendo Exclusive DS Games
figgler replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I am pretty sure that when you register games in Japan you get points. Here you get a 3 month NP subsrciption, there it's like AirMiles that you can cash in for exclusive games, styluses, toys and stuff like that. Regarding that Tingle game, I thought that was a regular release. I remember about a year ago filling out a survey for Nintendo that focused on whether Tingle should be brought to North America. I was still holding out hope that it might... -
Wait. It's called PSP 2000? Does that make this brand new system sound like it's already 7 years old to anyone else? I like that idea of feeding it straight to the TV though. I always wished that GameBoy did that without having to buy a peripheral for another system

Cleaning the outside of NES carts
figgler replied to MFoolsRun's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I go with "Wet Ones" pretty much all the time. Little residue, no label damage and they get off everything but stickers and marker. For those you'd want to use lighter fluid or alcohol respectively. -
How Frequently do y'all hit the thrift stores?
figgler replied to midnight magicman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I get out and look when I can. Once a week or more. It's difficult to quanitfy thrifting success though as sometimes I will find nothing for a month at a time. It all just depends on luck really. The only thing that you can count on with thrifting is that if you don't look, you don't find anything. -
Wii fanboys suddenly describing themselves as 'hardcore'
figgler replied to Cobra Kai's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I wonder if Japan has these retarded naming and labelling conventions and if they constantly bicker online about who the real gamers are and how they must be defined. As for Dones - there's an old school-idiot-fanboy-casual/hardcore-online/offline-gamer if I ever saw one. (i.e. Dones sucks) -

You guys are ridiculous? No personal offense of course, but this is about the stupidest thread I've ever clicked on. -
Who has played Carnival Games and what did you think?
figgler replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Picked this up and played it most of the weekend and I must say my findings are positive. An entertaining game that's proving to have a minor addictive quality. Not all the games are well done, but a lot of them require real skill and seem impossible to master. This game is not easy, but there is a lot to have fun with play for. I've read complaints about the control here and in another thread, and while there are a few games that have controls I don't like, they all seem to work. The remote seems very sensitive to me though, like it picks up subtleties more than I'm used to. Good game though so far. Multiplayer is good and single player has prozes to win and use. My character looks like a monkey shriner from space now -
Greetings and welcome to my fall trading post and sale! Some great items today from my personal collection spanning 30 years of gaming. Please have a look and feel free to PM with any deals for NES or funds. Cheers Coleco Telstar Alpha w/ box Believe me when I tell you this system looks like it's brand new. I can't remember if I've tested it before though and the adapter is missing. 4 games in 1! GameBoy Micro 20th Anniversary Famicom version + bonus faceplate Complete and very well taken care of by me. I also have here a replacement Famicom faceplate that was not included with the system, you had to order them from Nintendo. Atari Lynx Pouch Brand new in box and very cool. Mega Man 2 Nintendo Power 1989 An old favourite and probably the best NP issue. This one is well-used but complete and the Super Mario tip book is included Official Nintendo Passwords and Zelda LTTP guides Used but intact. The Top Secret Passwords book has tonnes of codes for NES, SNES and GameBoy NES games loose A good cross section of games here; POW, T&C, Temple of Doom, PinBot, Wizards & Warriors, and Klax NES games w/ box and book Ironsword and Batman. Good times. GameCube Cubivore I found this used years ago, but still in very good shape. Maybe the rarest good GCN game Thanks

Wii Trailers and Commercials are so damn gay.
figgler replied to ManShowBoy's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Yeah Hunters sucked. But, the reason it sucked in my mind was because it was a FPS in the most cliche way. Explore hallway, shoot things, collect key card, backtrack to door, use key card, repeat. All other Metroids are so much more than that and in truth I prefer the term First Person Adventure/Quest to describe them. The shooting should be and is incidental. -
Right, thanks.

I wonder if this is because Metroid is friggin awesome. The people that support this franchise know that it's always been of the highest quality, look forward to it with wagging tongues and typically want to chat about it constantly. How many Metroid threads has Room34 started over the years? I kind of always thought that Metroid was too "hardcore" for a lot of people. It's very demanding, often difficult and certainly not something you can pick up and play for 15 minutes at a time once a week. -
I haven't. Screw Electric Quarter. You're better off shopping elsewhere or finding someone on eBay with really good feedback.

Why would this suddenly become a problem? That chip is just sitting there doing its thing. Nothing ever touches it and it's not a moving part that would erode. I mean if it's finnicky, wouldn't it have most likely been like that forever?

figgler replied to ManShowBoy's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
It's popular, but yeah let's not overestimate it. It's not Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Brain Age, or even Nintendogs or Animal Crossing. That's it exactly. It's all about target markets. While Bio Shock on the surface looks like a game no one ever heard of, in reality every shooter fan who owns a 360 saw it coming and likely bought their 360 for games just like this. They're eating it up as expected and good for them. The Wii market is going to be tougher to crack for this game type. Japan won't care about it and FPS freaks already have a 360. Throw in the fact that MP2 by all accounts underperformed and we shouldn't be expecting sales records to be breaking on MP3. Its goal is to provide Metroid fans the sequel they wanted, bring a "serious" game to Wii, get a few FPS-heads to take a look and make some money along the way. -

Stuff like this typically moves through much heavier volumes in retail stores as opposed to online - particularly around the launch. People want to play "right away" not wait for Amazon to send (which, IMO, has gotten worse in the last year). I don't know how Metroid is doing compared to other SKUs in the channel, but perhaps NPD data will tell us next week? Well whatever. We all like Metroid of course, but it's not exactly Nintendo's sales juggernaught and never has been. Plus, there isn't much hype (is there even a TV commercial?) so comparing it to Halo 3 preorders or BioShock isn't really fair or telling. What is interesting is that Metroid's been out of stock at amazon.ca for a good while now, but it's still on the top 10 hourly Wii sales at #6 right now. So people do want the game and are buying it. Look at it this way if you feel that a comparison across systems is essential; Is Metroid on Wii (the highest profile "shooter" on the "fun" system) outperforming the highest profile "fun" game on the "shooter" system? The answer is most likely yes I'd think and really more telling than any Metroid vs. BioShock comparisons. -
FIXED SITE AGAIN, Custom Plush Toys for sale
figgler replied to Atari-Jess's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Jess I had no idea that you were in Toronto too. AA is a small world. Your link isn't working -
Now I've never owned a TG and honestly don't intend to. Via Wii tho, I've played more than a couple pretty great games. My experience is limited to less than a year of downloading this stuff but New Adventure Island and Bomberman 93 are musts for any fans of the series' and I just had the time of my adventure gaming life playing Dragon's Curse.
