  1. It is a slightly odd way of doing it, when you get no onscreen cue as to the fact there are even different input mappings. Tower Toppler was the weirdest, where it just auto completes the level. I thought one of my consoles was broken for months as it only happened on the one… 😆
  2. Both the TIA and Maria on the cart are just shadows of the console chips. They do not provide any feedback to the console at all, they just replicate their behaviour based on what is seen on the bus and generate an image. So there’s no way to alter how the console runs. The only real difference between the PAL and NTSC TIA, however, is just the palette, I think? Ignoring composite video format and slight clock variations. So it is possible to set an NTSC palette on PAL or vice versa, however I have not done this as yet.
  3. Unfortunately this is correct, the 7800 cannot play different region games. Maria is different and hard coded to generate the specific video output. Some will run, but in general it’s not a good result. It is possible to alter the palette for the 2600, however it does not currently. The best option with the 7800 is to buy an NTSC machine as well.
  4. Nope, not not. I'll post when there's been progress! 😄
  5. Very pleased people are enjoying it so much, it makes doing these things worthwhile.
  6. That's interesting, someone else was having an issue with a NES style controller as well. EDIT: Ah, I've just realised you meant the controller WITHOUT the Mega7800. That will most likely be because the controller is somehow setting UP+DOWN or LEFT+RIGHT together for START / SELECT. I added support for this MSX style mapping in the last firmware. Confirmed -- (Start) moves right (simulates menu selection where applicable) (Select) moves left (simulates menu selection where applicable) Pressing both activates LEFT+RIGHT, which is the equivalent to START in MSX land. Good to know!
  7. Have you tried pressing START + SELECT? EDIT: I've just realised this post wasn't Mega7800 related. However, the question is still worth asking!
  8. As mentioned before, it's the ABS plastic the shell is made of. It does have a similar smell to FR4 PCB, I have to admit. I've just opened up a plastic shell from it's packing, it's never seen a PCB in it's life, and it does indeed smell the same. So it has nothing to do with "burnt electronics", it's just plastic. So no massive surprise it works. 😆
  9. I would leave the cart on all night, but not the 7800... 😆 During development I guess I would have run the final revision of the cart PCB for a good 1+ thousand hours. Most days it would be running all day.
  10. Haha, I do tend to agree! The whole reason I developed the Mega7800 was for ease of use getting back to the game menu, etc, to make the experience as emulator like as possible. It's just a bonus it makes playing games nicer too...
  11. It's possible the heat is from the 7800? The heatsink for the 7800 5V regulator is exactly in that position in the 7800 case below the rear of the cart.
  12. I thought there was, tbh! I know many retailers offer this.
  13. I would suggest it’s just the smell of the plastic case? The components / PCB of the cart do not get hot in use from my experience.
  14. Haha, I then went on and read my more or less exactly the same reply in the other thread! Dejavu indeed! 😂 I need to add this to my todo list.
  15. Does it say ‘unsupported mapper’? There’s a good chance it’s just one of the 2600 mappers I’ve not implemented yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to add some more, but I’m running very low on space for the FPGA now!
  16. There *should* be a warning if games have an issue with the break functionality, although I may not have tagged everything yet. In general most games that have a warning will still work, but as you’ve seen, may have odd issues with slowdown or graphical issues.
  17. Awesome, glad you’re enjoying it! I’ve not had much feedback on the cheats, so it’s nice to hear you’re enjoying them. The cheats were provided by Gent over at emucheats, so it could well be that there is an issue with that one. I’ll have a look when I get a chance!
  18. Did you follow the instructions and scan the qr code or enter the URL from the update screen then download the latest firmware?
  19. Have you just bought the cart in the last week or so? If so, you’re on a firmware which has issues. Unfortunately I didn’t notice until I programmed them all that there was a problem. All of those games you mention do work, so that’s the only conclusion I can come to. It will come up with a message saying ‘wrong header, corrected’ or something like that when running some retail games also, but they will work. Just follow the firmware update procedure and it will sort the problem. You can also disable break using the options (right button) when launching the game, btw. You can also break into games using down+l+r fire buttons held for about 3 seconds.
  20. Can you give an example of a game (or a few) with issues? Screenshots would be helpful. And have you tried disabling break on games which you are seeing problems?
  21. No. The vox and savekey are the same thing, the HSC is a different thing. The vox and savekey save scores on an eeprom internal to the device which is physically plugged into the right joystick port. Only high scores for the HSC are saved by the gamedrive.
  22. Hi! The HSC scores are saved to a file on the memory card called something like hsc.bin. The vox and savekey are the same thing, but the vox has the voice synthesis chip as well. Both vox and savekey are external devices which plug into the right joystick port and scores are saved internally to an eeprom.
