  1. Or else it is the first revision brain of SkyNet. At any rate, it is a cool picture. Thanks for sharing CPUWIZ.
  2. Not to distract from the Kelly LeBlanc thread but, that 7800 looks like it is on life support.
  3. They look awesome! Congratulations.
  4. Nice! Brags should include photos and possibly eye witness accounts.
  5. SIO2

    SIO Cart

This is a very interesting device. Nice work!
  6. Perhaps the 34 story is a typo? Seems tall for a factory or warehouse. Glad you had a nice trip.
  7. Good job Wickeycolumbus. I enjoyed your review and also the picture of the Ford plant. My grandfather was as obsessed with Model Ts as most of us here are with Atari systems. Until he was quite advanced in age, he would collect Model T parts and build restored cars from them. So, where is the cart headed next?
  8. I don't know that there is a definite answer for that but here is my theory: When thinking of a US President or potential US President: Trump = Donald Obama = Barack Clinton = Bill or Hillary So, when the family name fails to be descriptive enough to identify the person, the personal name is used.
  9. @evg2000 : Aren't you sorry you sold it? CC2 is better than money.
  10. Unless a vampire happens to bite me, my stuff will probably go to auction. That is mostly what happens with the belongings of all the old country folk around here that have been dying off. Hard to believe that many people want iron skillets and crockery but it sells. I guess some people will collect anything.
  11. The top could be misaligned but it is not uncommon for sixers to have tight fit at the cart port especially with some later carts like red labels and my Stargate cart is really snug. There were huge variations in the later cart shells. I have seen some so thin they crumble in my hand and others moulded so thick I might be able to stand on them. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/8335-tight-fit/ I have had several six switch units like this. On one, I carefully filed some plastic away on the edges of the slot nearest to the inside of the machine. The change was not noticeable unless you were looking hard but it let carts fit better.
  12. So, the wall wart pictured above is an original linear type but I see that there are some cheap adapters being advertised around as replacements for Atari AC adapters. These replacements look to be the light weight switch mode type. I have not tried one with an Atari 2600. Has anyone reading this tried one of the new adapters? Do, they create any noise that affects the Atari video display? The new ones are cheap but are they also cheerful? BTW, I came across this interesting article about the switch mode power supply used in the Apple II and there is a link at the bottom of that page to another article about what is inside cheap USB chargers. http://www.righto.com/2012/02/apple-didnt-revolutionize-power.html
  13. Because of the voltage drop across the diodes? Well, I would expect there would be a drop. Perhaps not that much. I think the usual voltage drop for this type of diode is around .7 volts. Not sure how that totals up in the bridge arrangement. I suspect that the output of the transformer should be higher than 9v AC. When I try to measure this one, I get no voltage on the output so, I believe the transformer has failed which in my experience is odd. Also, the cap tested high on ESR which is not too surprising given its age and the fact it was being baked in this little plastic box all those years. Normally when I measure the DC output of these Atari wall warts they meter around 13 volts DC. I have read that voltage drops under load (when the machine is connected rather than the meter). However, the voltage regulator in the console still has to receive somewhat higher voltage than its nominal output in order to function. My understanding is that the voltage regulator basically blows off the excess through generating heat. This is also probably the point where we should say, this discussion is for educational purposes only and fiddling around inside these things can be dangerous or deadly.
  14. So, with fast cornering - does Pac-man actually corner faster or do the ghosts have a little pause when changing directions? I can see it being the latter because the program has to make the decision as to what direction the ghosts will go then move them but the human player decides which way Pac-man will go so the program just has to read the direction and make the move (possibly a faster process). Also, it seems fast mode is something people want. Is that just that Pac-man starts out running at his fastest possible speed while ghosts gradually speed up as the levels progress? At any rate a fast mode option would be nice. Often those first few mazes seem to drag.
  15. Oh, they are eyes. I always thought they were bubbles farted out by Pac-man when he ate a ghost. Just kidding.
  16. No idea. I have never used one. I think this one belonged to an Amiga but can not be sure.
  17. It is metal and has a heavy cable so, I will probably go with USPS small flat rate box. I think it may cost me a bit more but let's just call it $6 even. If that works for you, PM me your address and I will PM you payment details. Thanks.
  18. And check the dumpsters for injection moulds.
  19. I have one also. It had a dead CPU. Fixed now.
  20. Anybody want/need this for cost to ship?
  21. Short answer is you need to google the data sheet for the eprom you are using (same manufacturer and part number). Generally very old eprom use 21 volts. As they got newer and changed to CMOS technology the programming voltage went down. If you absolutely can't tell, start with a low voltage setting and see if it will program. Too high will cook them.
  22. Well the good working parts that get sold by those doing conversions go to people who are restoring their beloved game. At least I assume that is the case. So I am not sure the destroying a treasure argument is even true.
  23. So exciting. Only 339 posts to go before I can afford to get on the list. Anybody ever see a thread of one word posts? Just joking.
  24. Well, I don't feel bad about doing what I did with my cab. I love the glow of the marquee and the coin door lights and setting on my bar stool playing Dintar's new 2600 Pac-man with a real arcade joystick feels fantastic. I have to think that the machine is happier too being able to amuse again. It may be a rat rod but I like it.
