  1. Thank you Trebor for that great video. It covers the game well.
  2. People's expectations have changed too. I used to regard arcade Robotron as impossibly busy. Now I find it kind of relaxing. As for pokey, well I like a pokey as much as the next guy but, Atari didn't put it in the 7800 - curse fate. Yes, I know it can be added via cart or someday the x whatever m was it? Expansion maybe others? But Siriusly I know the 7800 is a great machine capable of being a 2600 plus or a home arcade or practically anything. I love it, just LOVE it. So, cheer up guy.
  3. Alpha Race. AR091115.a78 AR091115.bin
  4. Does it matter what sound processor it is if it sounds good?
  5. I have been on both sides of this issue. I have had a couple of auctions I won that the seller backed out. So, I know how it hurts when you have taken mental ownership of something even if you haven't physically received it yet and then someone takes it away. I also sold a cart for cheap because I didn't know what it was worth. Then someone messaged me with an offer 20 times what I sold for. I had to tell that high offer sorry it is already sold. It sucked having to put that cart in the mail knowing my own mistake cost me but I did because I didn't want the buyer to feel that pain of rejection and the bargain lost. I got some comfort from knowing the joy they must have had in getting such a deal. Plus to me, when the gavel drops that item is done and we move on. That is the rule in an auction and it is proper IMHO.
  6. I tried ordering several of the 7800 guides once. I never received them. Instead I got one of his USB joysticks. The total price of what I ordered and what I received was about the same so, I told him we would call it even. The guides would have been more useful to me though. Anyhow, I have used a cap from a pen to open 2600 cart dust shields. Just poke the pocket hanger part of the pen cap in where the tabs would fit while you push back on the shield. Keep your finger in one side of the cart to press the dust shield back while you lower the other side of the cart into the 2600 cart slot. Then slip your finger out at the last moment and straighten the cart as you push it gently into the machine. A lot of times if the dust shields aren't pushed back very far they will stay slightly open on their own. Not a fix but an old pen cap left by the 2600 gets the job done.
  7. Awww, that was what I was gonna guess first because I figured you would put your face on your favorite game ever. Great contest man. Thanks and congrats to the winners.
  8. Same seller is getting good money on a 2600 lock n chase proto too.
  9. Sounds like maybe nobody guessed it yet. Not going to tell me? Maybe some magic is in order. Hmmm, you said you know what the carts are. Are you thinking about those carts now? Please notice there are no carts up my sleeve and neither of the carts has a bent corner. Is your cart Pac-man? I know same as my earlier guess because it is Pac-man. Poof! Check again.
  10. My experience is that the transistor and two resistor composite mod works better on 7800 than 2600. I might try an s-video mod but I don't have any TVs with s-video input.
  11. Between PPII and Asteroids, Asteroids would be my choice. I remember seeing the 7800 in the Sears catalogs. Back then, I didn't buy a 7800 because I already had a 2600 and an 800XL. The 7800 library looked small and dated and didn't seem to be growing. The one title I was interested in that would have sold me a system as a pack in was Galaga. I really regret not buying a new 7800 when they were available. These days I am really enjoying my 7800 because I have come to appreciate it for what it is - an enhanced 2600 that can play the old library but also play new 2600 styled games faster, in more color and detail and without flicker.
  12. Your post reminded me that I had never heard how that trial turned out. According to what I found online, Larrikin Music won the case but didn't get the 40-60% of total royalties they wanted. It looks like Larrikin got 5% of royalties from the year 2002. Maybe by 2002 Down Under wasn't the hottest song. So, what do you suppose 5% of a remake of an obscure 35 year old game would be worth? Probably not worth the price of the phone call to say "hey this is Collin Hay callin".
  13. I also had good luck with my original CX-40's but I must have a gentle touch. To the OP. I think Atari related retro is especially hard to try to turn any profit on for reasons already stated but also because I think many Atari users are do it their selfers and bargain hunters. Some people will spend years designing something just to prove it can be done. Others I have to wonder if the reason they collect Atari is just because they would never shell out for a new system. It is a great group of people here on AA though.
  14. Looks great. I was actually wishing for something like this recently. I would take a set.
  15. I vote for PS2 since that is the one I have. Plus, had tons of fun playing PS2 games cooperatively with the kids when they were young.
  16. Yet he has 99.6% positive feedback. I guess some people believe in Unicorns.
  17. Just one 7800? Surely you will want one for every room.
  18. Replacement would require desoldering the old part and soldering in the new part.
  19. Neat. This was fun. Thanks for hosting the contest.
  20. True. A few flashbacks aren't much of a load but I know of an incident where my daughter's boyfriend felt he could use a power strip to plug in a plasma TV, an Xbox 360, a fridge, a microwave and an electric space heater plus maybe some other things too. He was renting a home with an old wiring system (fuses not breakers). Before the fuse blew he cooked the insulation pretty well. There are a lot of people out there who think that if an outlet is available and the plug fits then it is all good. Not necessarily so. I have one of the Kill-a-watt meters. They are nice.
  21. I just wanted to note since many people who will find this post will not be students of electrical power systems that these outlets and cords should be used with caution since they make it easier to overload a circuit. I do use them but I only plug in what I am using and I unplug them when not in use.
