  1. I don't know about value but it is cool to look at.
  2. It looks like there is plenty of room to add a second row of ports. They could add a comlynx port.
  3. I agree. I think the author would do better making the cart for the original console. But, if there is an easy way to load the ROM or an original cart via adapter on RVGS then it expands the RVGS library and makes it more useful. This thing won't be state of the art for long if it even qualifies now. Neither is my 7800 but I love it still. We will just have to see if RVGS finds some love.
  4. This (below) is taken from the FAQ on the Retro VGS website and is why I suggested the universal Retron idea. I do understand that is not the developers goal for the system. Third party developers might take an interest though in this flexible platform. Perhaps third party developers can create HDL and cartridge adapters to play the games of other classic systems. Creating an Atari 2600 game on the Retro VGS cart doesn't make sense to me but having an adapter for Retro VGS to play original 2600 games and new homebrews (or better yet 7800 games) would make the VGS much more interesting to me. "Whats going on under the hood? (Steve Woita) Think of it as hardware that is reconfigurable by the cartridge. The RETRO VGS will have its own cool configurations (ways to make a game), and it can also be hardware-configured to be other old-school architectures that a lot of developers are used to developing for. Specifically, and at this current time, its an FPGA and ARM system. If a developer wants to make a Neo Geo game, they would include an HDL (Hardware Description Language) file that configures the FPGA to operate like a Neo Geo."
  5. Yes. They are wanting to use the Wii U style controller which looks to me like it has similar number of buttons and sticks as PS2 dualshock. I really like PS2 dualshock which I suppose could be used with Retro VGS with a PS2 to USB adapter. Here is the Retro VGS website. http://www.retrovgs.com
  6. Tested. It works. Thank you.
  7. Is it possible to stop a long sound effect that was started by playsfx? If so, how?
  8. Hard to say. I don't think I would laugh at it regardless but will I get one at launch? That depends on price, what it can do and what I believe it could do. One thing I find strange is that they are preparing a custom controller when the system is capable of using Genesis, Atari or USB controllers. The FAQ talks a lot about keeping costs down. Clone Genesis controllers are pretty darn cheap. Unless they are getting a killer deal, I guess I don't understand the advantage of a new controller for a retro style system. A lot of people ditch the pack in controllers and get something that fits their own taste anyhow. It is interesting that they say it is not like retron yet it can pretend to be an Atari or whatever system. So can adapters be created that would allow VGS to play Atari games from original carts? Could this thing be a universal Retron?
  9. Now I don't feel weird about that little kiss I gave my 7800. Bring the love. More games = more fun. Looking forward to Missile Command.
  10. A very interesting machine indeed. I was reading about it on their website. The FPGA sounds very flexible and liberating for designers. It will be exciting to see where this goes.
  11. Sealed 2600 Gravitar and wireless Genesis controllers = smooth transaction. I appreciate the care you take in packing. Thank you.

    Osgeld

Very happy with PS1 games and NES clone controllers I got from Osgeld.
  13. I just scanned the above. Didn't see it mentioned but I may have missed it, the ST will boot faster with a disk in drive (720k).
  14. You could buy the clear acrylic extra toilet paper roll for $9.99 though clear acrylic might not be as comfortable to wipe with.
  15. A giant chocolate chip cookie with happy fathers day written on in frosting. All the kids and grandkids visited. Then wife and I went for a bicycle ride. I rode my 1981 vintage 12 speed.
  16. I have done several AV mods on 2600, 5200 and 7800. I generally like the modded output better than RF. That doesn't mean that you can't get a decent picture from RF in many cases. It seems to me that RF output quality varies from unit to unit. One thing that helps is to clean the jack and use good quality cable. If you solder, also reflow the solder where the RF unit connects to the main board and make sure the RF shield ground is well soldered. I actually came across a 7800 the other day that had no RF video out. I cleaned the channel select switch and the RF jack, reflowed the contacts and now the RF signal is so good I can't justify modding it. Oh, I also use the F plug (I guess that is what they are called) rather than the RF switchbox to connect to the TV.
  17. $500 million Atari paid IBM to make jag. Sounds insane. They would have to sell 2 million units to break even.

Somebody should have told them to do the math.

same situation with Trump and the Taj Majal.

  18. I tried a couple different brands of CRT. Yes, red part of letters does not display on either. Also the clipping at the top margin looked the same for both sets. Photos of player attached.
  19. I can see all of the text now. When it runs first time high score says 02A900. When the game ends high score changes to 000000. Sometimes one of the vortex just sits in the middle so I can walk over and touch it. Thank you for making the player bigger ☺ Have I got the world record score on"Awesome Title" yet?
  20. My wife needs to read this. Maybe she would be more understanding about my "valuable" old machines.
  21. I set the screen height to 192 for my projects.
  22. Nice work. Interesting concept. I uploaded the bin to my DevOS 7800. It seems to work well. On my NTSC CRT I lost part of the top of the screen. Also, the player sprite seems tiny on my little 13" TV. Here are photos of my screen with your game and same screen with PMC.
