So I bit the bullet last night, clipped 6-7, and soldered them together. Now I have a fully functional machine! It totally worked! Thank you so much for all your advice zylon. I've been burned by bad advice from other forums before so it's hard to trust, especially when only one person is giving the advice. But take it from me, anyone scouring the forums to fix this problem, it works great and is VERY easy. Thanks again!

I'm wondering if it would be worth it, or if it would work, to use a small wire to jump the pins on the chip before committing to cutting and bridging. If I do, do I need to keep the board in the metal box? Does it provide a ground or anything? Or can I try the joystick on the naked board with a cart in it.

Alright. One last thing and then I'll leave you alone. On your JPEG you have a chip numbered 7732 where my 4050 is. Is this the replacement? In A203 I mean. I like the idea of the TIA chip lasting longer, so I'm leaning towards replacing the chip instead of bridging. I'll take it to my local electronics shop to see about getting a socket installed, since I'm a bit dodgy about my soldering skills. Thanks again for all your help. It's good to know that there's a fix for everything!

Thanks. Sorry to be a pain, but I'm a noob when it comes to this kind of thing. How hard is it to bridge the pins? How do you count the pins? Are there any diagrams online that show exactly what we're talking about? Thanks, and thanks for all you've suggested so far.

hmmm. This makes me nervous, as my soldering iron is a little big for this job. I saw another possible solution here (just now - doh!) from RichG1972. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/218222-heavy-sixer-repair-keeps-firing/ How hard is that?

Thanks. Are they socketed,or do I have to solder?

Hi all! I just bought my 2nd 2600, my first being the one I bought in junior high in 1980, and I am having a blast. I got it cheap on eBay and it was listed as "not-working". I figured since I love troubleshooting and tinkering I could fix it. Well, I did and everything works except the player 2 joystick port. It seems to be stuck as if the fire button were held down. After some research on the internet, this site included, I deduced that the CO10750 chip might be bad. Before searching for one I thought I'd double check with the experts here. For the record, I've tested a known good joystick in the port and taken the machine apart and inspected the soldering. My test was with a couple of games, namely Boxing, Joust, and Combat. They all behaved as is the fire button were stuck down, even when there was no joystick plugged in. Thanks in advance for your input!
