Now if I can just get me a Wii....
spongebue replied to -^CrossBow^-'s topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
It probably depends on where you are. For a lot of stores, they have different ads for different parts of the country. I was told that my Wal Mart would have 16 Wiis, for example. Keep in mind, I do live in a really small town -
Ah, I was prepared for that one... keep in mind, Target is based out of Minneapolis as well. (by the way, I was actually in Minnesota at the time) @shadow: I was in line for a PS3, but only to resell (as Room 34 said, I'm allowed to since I'm a college student )

Ok, I've been up for about 17 hours, plus a lot has happened, so bear with me on my currently poor storytelling skills. Also, this is the main points... I could go into a lot more detail, but that would make for an overly long post. (very) Long story short for me: -Tried to get to [store name] yesterday -Told I couldn't start camping until 8:00, other people have been turned down -Arrived at about 7:00, planned to wait in car until 8:00 -Saw about 50 people in line already -Joined a group of people in the same situation as I was -People gave us dirty looks, cops came to make sure there were no riots -We protested peacefully, one kid's mom threatened to call attorney, since they didn't enforce their rule (we were being punished for following the rules, while others were being rewarded for breaking them... and these people were aware of the rule, having been kicked out before) -Each person in group was given a $25 gift card -Corporate representative came over (their headquarters aren't too far away) -[store name] corporate people were involved, legal team was scrambling, from the sounds of it -We were told to go to the back of the line, give name/phone number, they would do what they could to make things right -That mom I mentioned called that attorney, who talked to [store name]'s legal department -Within minutes, people started receiving phone calls from the store's manager, creating individual appointments with the ~15 people on the list -When I talked to the guy, I set up my appointment. I was told that they can't say what their plan is for legal reasons, but I should be "veeery happy" about it. -Now I'm waiting to see what that will be, will find out tomorrow I'm guessing that I may have to sign a non-disclosure agreement, so I have blanked out the name of the store for this.

Saw some chumps camped out for PS3s at Target today...
spongebue replied to Room 34's topic in Sony Playstation 3
Heheh, thanks for that... I'm about to post my story in a couple minutes... I assure you, it's not your average story -
From what I've heard, all Target stores are supposed to have the wii on display starting tomorrow (Sunday) I'll be going there as soon as I'm done at work
-
My friend and roommate are skipping class at this very moment to get a copy (actually, my roommate is missing sleep rather than class... that actually says a lot about how much he wants the game)
-
oooh, purty... where did you get that done?
-
Obelix- I've got it... could use some advice.
spongebue replied to Night Driver's topic in Atari 2600
NTSC is the acronym you want. As for your game, there seems to be only one kind of Obelix. Assuming you actually have it, you should be in good shape (no offense or anything, but if you are new and are suddenly selling a game worth quite a bit it's easy for people to be kind of suspicious) As for selling individually vs. in a group, I'd say individually is better, but more work -
short answer: no long answer: no way

GOT MY PAINTED/MOD DREAMCAST, AWESOME!
spongebue replied to AtariJr's topic in Modern Console Discussion
it's on breadboard, which is used for prototyping. This LED is meant for 3.6 volts, but can go lower. It will just be a bit dim on a Dreamcast, which gives 3.3 volts in the LED socket. -
To interface the buttons with the computer, I like this method: Figure out how many buttons you will need. In most circumstances, this will be the number of buttons you want per player times the number of players, + 1 for the coin slot, 2 for start buttons, and 1 for an escape button. If you have 6 buttons per person (I can't imagine having any more than that on any machine) then you will need an 8-button pad. In general, you can just use the d-pad for the joystick as long as it's digital (not some analog stick). I used these, and they worked fine: linky Keep an eye out for this to be on sale, it was $10 each when I got it. Of course, I needed 2 of them, one for each player, but it worked fine (even having 2 of the same model) Now, for the fun part. Soldering. There is one common point called ground. If I remember correctly, this gamepad has them all on the same common point (a similar one had a few per section) This ground will go from one pin to another on each button (one pin per button) up to the ground point on the controller. After that, run each individual point on the controller (the point that isn't shared by everything else) to the remaining pin on each button. Be sure to be consistent and have a decent system when connecting them, so you can keep track of it. Don't just connect random wires, you'll confuse yourself. Once you are done interfacing the buttons to the computer, use a program called JoyToKey. This converts joystick signals to keyboard signals used by all programs. Make up a good configuration with this program, MAME, your frontend (the program that lets you choose your game) and any other programs you may have. Hope this helps a bit Oh yeah, make sure the weather is suitable for painting in the winter, if you live somewhere where it is really cold in the winter.

GOT MY PAINTED/MOD DREAMCAST, AWESOME!
spongebue replied to AtariJr's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Figures, you found the 2 major flaws I know of The box around the Sega logo was from me removing the tape later, as you guessed. I noticed that the Windows CE thing was still there (I didn't mind if it was gone, so I didn't tape over it) so I figured I'd try the same thing with the logo, not thinking that might happen. As for the line on the tray, that is from me thinking I cut the tape in an area, but not doing so afterall. I meant to get just the gray on the lid taped. It's actually white from how the thing was before. I'd like to fix it, but I get the feeling that I will have the same effect as the Sega box. For painting the controller ports, I'd probably prefer not to. I like how it looks, and doubt I could get the same color paint. Plus, I got pretty lucky with the results I got (I am usually an awful painter) @CPUWIZ: I saw that earlier on your store, actually I'll consider it, but I think that might be a little too busy for me. You never know, though... it could be cool Oh yeah, what colors does it have? Thanks, spongebue PS: sorry to steal your thunder, AtariJr. -
GOT MY PAINTED/MOD DREAMCAST, AWESOME!

Woot! I really like it how it is now, so I don't think I'm going to put any stripes on it or anything... it looks excellent in person. -

i think the contrast with the red and white would be better than the red and black as those two colors are too similar in tone, but what do i know im only a graphic designer . Yeah, I realized that my LED is a 12 volt one, so I'd have to get a new one anyway... so I went out and got a blue one at Radio Shack It's meant for 3.7 volts, so it's a little bit dim. Not bad, though. Anyway, I already got the top half painted, and it's not looking bad Edit: And here's a picture: http://imageshack.portablesofdoom.org/image.php?id=59 (or http://imageshack.portablesofdoom.org/image.php?id=60 for something more dial-up friendly) Yes, I did separate them first, I just took the picture with the lid on the unit. Now I just have to do the bottom and the modem, and I'm set -

That's not a bad idea, though I was thinking a black stripe instead. I think I have a red LED laying around, too -
Not sure how long it will last, but someone put it on Google Video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=23...=space+invaders

wow, I suddenly have to spray my Dreamcast... hmmm... I'm gonna have to go with a racecar-red -
it was pretty cool, he went through a list of systems he did(I missed the portable jag one though, because like I said Ihad watch my stuff) Idon't know if he taking orders. Ben never made a portable Jaguar, that was Dave (aka Dkap01) You can see that one here. This guy tackles the more complicated systems, and does a good job of it, but his cases aren't quite as detailed as Ben's (no decals or anything, but a solid vacuum-formed case)

What kind of problems are you having? That's always a good way to start. If you get absolutely nothing at all, that's actually a pretty good sign, since it's probably a bad power supply or even cord. If you can get sound, but no video, it's probably the monitor. Otherwise, it's still possible that it's the motherboard, and that would be known by either weird gameplay (doesn't start right, but you see something, maybe) or, like the power supply, lack of any response. Try taking a multimeter and testing the voltage outputs on your power supply.
-
Do you have an example of his reasoning? That sounds like it would be pretty entertaining
-
looks like this would be my only shot at possibly going, for a number of reasons. Are you going to do this? If the show is in 2 weeks, it's probably a good idea to do it now or never, to give people notice and all. spongebue

yup, a guy at work somehow managed to get to E3. He said that he wanted to play the wii, but it would have been a few hours in line. I see he's not kidding!
-
Yeah, I had something similar way back when... I was using Safari on AtariAge, and it crashed. Pretty soon, it started to randomly crash on pretty much every site I went to, so I switched to Firefox. No major regrets, I guess
-
Nice find Any plans with this? Mame cab? Restore?
-
Rally X is an awesome game, but I always feel as though any crashes I make are very avoidable, so I feel silly when it happens
