  1. Flag Capture has some of the best artwork on the box. It looks like it's going to be some pirate adventure on the high seas, and it's nothing more than a memory/match board type game
  2. I remember drooling over both of them in the store when I was a teenager in '82, and wishing I could have them both, but I think I was leaning towards CV because of Donkey Kong. But it was a hopeless cause to ask for either of them, since I couldn't ask my parents to dish out an extra couple hundred dollars, after I just got an Atari 2600 that summer. Now, I finally own both (actually 2 of each, and 2 Adam computers) and every game released for each of them, and play them both equally. I think the colors are more vibrant on the 5200, and look more "washed- out" on the CV, but the CV has a lot of the more obscure, yet fun, arcade ports that are great translations of the arcade versions. I think it's a wash between the two. By the way- the person who said "black and pink," do you still have the pink trim protector stickers on your 5200? If so, if you pull them off, you'll find the silver chrome underneath
  3. Graphics aside, I think the gameplay of Crystal Castles is pretty close to the arcade.
  4. If you had been a "punk rocker" in the 80s, you'd know that Reagan was pretty much to blame for everything bad that happened in that decade! Sorry, I wasn't a "punk rocker" in the 80's, but I always thought punk rockers hated everybody! Aside from the video game crash, I thought the 80's were great! I could debate you on Reagan, but this isn't a politics forum.
  5. "regan?" Do you mean Ronald Reagan? And, if so, what did Reagan have to do with the Video Game Crash? If anything, I remember an article in which Ronald Reagan praised video games for building hand/eye coordination and imagination. The video game crash occured due to a huge number of crappy games that flooded the market to cash in on the video game craze, which led to oversaturation, and caused people to lose interest. Also- I think part of what caused the crash was the "novelty" of video games had started to wear off by 1984, which led to sales leveling off and ultimately declining when nothing new and exciting came out (like a next generation game console), until the NES came out. Now, of course, we realize how much fun those old games were!

  7. I just picked up one of those weird ecard readers for Gameboy Advance (mainly just to get Donkey Kong Jr.), and was thinking how cool it would be to crack the "dot" code system on the cards, and translate old Atari games to the code. The e-cards released by Nintendo are just copies of old NES games, so why not Atari? I would think Activision would jump on that right away- since they have been really into rereleasing old Atari 2600 games as PC and Playstation and the 10 in 1 controller they recently came out with. Anybody think they could do it? Think about it- you could maybe even download and print out the Atari cards from the net, then maybe laminate them for durability. I would think you would probably have to have an Atari emulator along with the ROM. Just a thought...
  8. I agree- I like Desert Falcon too, and bought it new back in 1988, when I bought my 7800. I like the stars above the Falcon's head and the whistle when he crashes!
  9. quote: Originally posted by Albert: I never had an opportunity to play the original arcade game, so I wonder how faithful it is to the original. I'm sure someone here can answer that. ..Al I loved the original Food Fight arcade game, and dumped many quarters in it! The excellent port of Food Fight for the 7800 is very close to the arcade original, and was one of the reasons I bought a 7800 when it came out in the late 80's.
  10. I forgot to mention Crazy Climber!
  11. Just about anything that Activision cancelled would be great, I'm sure, and I also thought that the screen shot of Incredible Hulk from the Parker Bros. catalog looked awesome! I wish somebody could find a proto of that one and release it.
  12. The controllers are great, and work great, too! They are about as comfortable as the 7800 proline controller, but the fire buttons work better. The only thing is, if you use the paddle function on a regular 2600 or 7800 system, to activate the fire button, you need to push the joystick part.
  13. Jr. Pac-Man , Ms. Pac-Man , Space Invaders, Phoenix, Frogger, Crystal Castles, Stargate/Defender II are all great in their own right!
  14. Don't forget Keystone Kapers, but then again, we already agree that most of Activision's and Imagic's titles had great graphics.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Chazbeenhad: Just wondering if anyone has ever purchased a 5200 trak ball from atari 2600.com? I'm thinking of buying from them. A new one in the box. I'm always neverous before trying a new online vendor. Charlie Atari2600.com is great! I bought a couple games from them, including the hard to find Tank Command for the Atari 7800, and they are fast, and friendly! They are also one of the older Atari vendors on the web.

I had the same problem when I tried to insert the Miner cart into a 7800. As someone else mentioned, you'll need to file or cut the 2 prongs inside the cart down a little bit, since they are too long. That's what I had to do with mine. Since it's hard to get into the cart with a scissor or nail file, try a nail clipper to trim the prongs down a little.
  17. 1 Heavy Sixer 1 Sears Video Arcade Heavy Sixer 1 Light Sixer 1 Sears Video Arcade Light Sixer 1 4 switch woody 1 Sears Video Arcade 4 switch 2 Darth Vaders 2 Sears Video Arcade II s (the 2800) 1 Junior and... if you count the following, since they also play 2600 games: 2 Atari 7800s 1 Colecovision Expansion Module 1 1 Atari 5200 VCS adapter I'm thinking of picking up a Coleco Gemini system, too. I keep thinking I should get rid of some of these Ataris, since I don't need all of these to play games, but then my collection wouldn't be complete! But, if anybody's interested in making an offer, feel free to drop me an e-mail at [email protected] I prefer playing the 2600 games on the original heavy sixer, since it seems to have the best picture quality and color of any of the models. By the way, somebody posted a message about a Junior model having 32 built-in games. Which model is that? I never heard of such a model. [email protected]
  18. For the most part, I like the Parker Brothers games, too! Their 2600 games were pretty good, but most of their games for other systems were especially good! Q*Bert for Commodore 64, for example, was arcade-perfect, and Tutankham for Colecovision was great!!! However, Frogger for Intellivision has real sloppy movement.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Cafeman: Pitfall2 looks very similar to the 2600 version. Actually, when I first played Pitfall II for the 5200, I thought it was just a port of the 2600 version, with the solution to the game being the same. However, when I finally played it all the way through, I was shocked to find that after you complete the original part, a door opens and there is another level waiting for you! WOW! I never completed the 2nd part, so I don't know if there is more beyond that, or not- but check it out!
  20. quote: Originally posted by Ze_ro: Were there actually any games that used the 3rd and 4th joystick ports? I've got a 2-port model coming to me in the mail, but still have no games or controllers --Zero Super Breakout is the only game that I can think of that has can have 3 or 4 players on the 5200.
