Yeah sure. I never use DOS nor test with it. The only part I use ingame is the Cassette/Tape Buffer at $400 for decompressing the levels.

Thanks for the test, i'll debug it to understand that.

    Segment  1: Load:0600 End:0BF6 Size:05F7       Main Code
    Segment  2: Load:0C00 End:0CCC Size:00CD      Display List
    Segment  3: Load:1000 End:106F Size:0070       Character Set
    Segment  4: Load:1BC0 End:1FE6 Size:0427       Data part 1
    Segment  5: Load:0CCD End:0FD1 Size:0305      Data part 2

You will crash almost every DOS and even GameDOS using that memory locations. Page 6 is OK, and for "standard" DOS compatibility better don't use anything till $2000 then with blocks, that have to be loaded.

So what will this do, apart from having a name that makes me think of an Amiga emulator?

Didn't looked deeper into this, but imho you can install other emulators with this on the machine - it's an alternate firmware. Adding games direct to the carousel might not work, if I understand release news correct.

Tried all available models, different ATR versions of The Top 3, 400 mini always returns to the carousel :(

Imho the disk drive emulation is not as exact as it would be needed to run this demo. They used own loading routines there, so that the method the emulator in the400 uses won't work.

The400 is not a machine for watching demos. The emulation is not good enough for this and atm you can't set it to be able to see the whole Atari screen. Best example is one of my rather simple intros - Atari 50, a simple one screener with music and scroller. The font has glitches on the400, that are not seen on A8 or Altirra.

  4. .car is clearly supported. Besides the Space Harrier, I started ATARI Tennis and ATARI Blast! without any problem.

If the ROMs are for the 5200 you should check the 5200 option. This machine has different internal structure from all the other A8 machines, The400 mini supports.

btw: Stunt Car Racer (.atr) and Crownland (.xex) are working fine, too 👍

The MULE issue appears like it might be an emulation bug rather than a wrong disk image. Just tried the Atarimania .ATRs of both the Ariolasoft UK and Electronic Arts versions and both exhibit the same graphical glitches. The Homesoft "Multi-Joy" .XEX version crashes. And the other .XEX I have only appears to support 2 players regardless of system.

EDIT: The version on Fandal's website seems to work perfectly. https://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=4190 So if you want to play MULE, use that one for now.

Ah, I see, you found a working version.

Just to make it clear for everyone. This pic was taken using the same atr, I used before, but I started a 3 player game to be sure emulation is fine...

After watching several of the reviews and the excellent after show Q+A from Gen X Grownup I'd like to see the following updates.

    1- more RAM

    2-Stereo Pokey

3-Ability to swap from NTSC to PAL without doing a factory reset

    4-VBXE

I'm sure there will  be lots more when I actually get my hands on one, but really looking forward to having a play

Add this, too: Being able to show full ATARI resolution.

  7. Here a screenshot from usb loaded M.U.L.E.:

Problem is really just a wrong image of the game.

I really can't understand how such a mistake can happen... Is there no one who takes control, if everything is correct?

  8. Imho a solution with the pi should be, that it is used to emulate all our beloved machines. I own a gb case for my pi zero 2w and this is awesome. So many of the good old systems in that small device. Even a PS1 is possible with 60Hz framerate.

But maybe some expansions are easier to realise with that cool new power machines, where FPGA or other stuff would be needed - so why not?

The described commy64 solution is of course way to far.

I really hope, you will like it. I really like it that much, that my 600 XL + hifi tower runs for some hours in an endless loop now ;) So cool that we have most of the intro of this popular game on the A8 now - feels like bitd when the A500 had run for hours just to loop this intro...

Now we need someone who writes the game.

    @MrFish It's even worse than I thought :)
Take a look at comparisson between free cpu cycles on Pal system vs how many scanlines are "overflow" (little over full ntsc screen height, so it skips a frame because of only couple scanlines.... ufff).

We'll see... If I can I'll make it 60fps even if I have to drop some enemies from busier screens. If not  I can go for 30fps, should be playable still.

    ntsc_overflow.jpg.3fa9af579c3039c02ceef2f10c9f9b76.jpg

Maybe a solution to get some more time would be to make the visible area a bit smaller (1 or 2 gfx0 lines) if 60Hz machine is detected.

  12. Along with many other things I created for our little A8, you can get NYD2024 now also direct from my area @abbuc.social tnfs with your FujiNet empowered ATARI.

Just head over to abbuc.social there and go to members/pps.

Thanks ABBUC e.V. and @cas for providing this service.
