Hmmm, in 1986 or so I bought a JVC tapedeck. They gave a lifetime warranty to their JVC "Sen-Alloy" (sp?) heads. Yesterday my record+play SA head died. Do you think JVC will still replace the head so I can use the tapedeck again ?
Btw: your head might not (probably not) really be "dead". Check the leads under the head... I'd be willing to bet one of them broke off and just needs to be soldered back on...
record did not work anymore for more than a year, only playback did; but since yesterday even playback gives only silence, no matter what tape I insert - all other functions (rewind, fforward, etc.) seem still to be working. Does this have to do with the leads under the head ?!?
Yes. Check the leads. The other thing I would do is take contact cleaner to all switches inside and out. Heads rarely ever die. The leads (chinsey thin ass wires) going to the heads are sooooo delicate and fragile. Years of a solenoid or manual up/down can break them easily.
