SpartaDOS X 4.49 (release version)
CharlieChaplin replied to drac030's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
But QMEG is NOT SIO2SD, in QMEG the letter N = normal speed, F = fast speed; where fast speed can be ultraspeed, warpspeed, turbospeed or XF-highspeed. Stefan did not want to use several letters, so he chose only two, one for normal speed and one for fast speed... -

SpartaDOS X 4.49 (release version)
CharlieChaplin replied to drac030's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Errrmmm, as far as I know QMEG has built-in drivers for Speedy 1050 (ultraspeed), Happy 1050 (warp+ultraspeed), US-Doubler (ultraspeed), Turbo 1050 (turbospeed) and XF551 (XF highspeed). So whenever QMEG sees a Turbo 1050 it uses turbospeed and NOT ultraspeed... -

XF551 and 3.5" High-Density Floppy Drive
CharlieChaplin replied to pixelmischief's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well, if I want to read A8 disks or files with a PC floppy drive, I am using a Teac drive - Teac 55 GFR... (1.2MB HD drive), it works very well with Ataridsk and Write ATR. If I want to use a 3,5" drive with my XF551, I am using a Teac drive - Teac HF235, it is a HD drive but it works very well with DD/720k disks. NOTE: I experienced that the number after FD-235HF must be 6xxx or lower, eg. 6291-U, drives with a higher number, e.g. A290 did not work for me. Your mileage may vary though. (And yes, in the past I also used 3,5" HD disks and put a write-protect tab from my 5,25" disks onto the HD-hole and used them as 720k disks. This worked for a while, but after some months or maybe 1-2 years, most of these disks had read errors, so I bought DD/720k disks and used them instead. Many of these disks are now 10-20 years old and still work fine, so DD disks seem to be the better and longer lasting solution, this counts for 5,25" and 3,5" disks...) -
DOS 2.0s, DOS 2.5 and MyDOS use the DOS II format, whereas SpartaDOS uses the Sparta DOS FileSystem (SDFS) - they are incompatible to each other. Afaik, SpartaDOS can show the dir. of a DOS II disk and the program MENU.COM on the SpartaDOS diskette can copy files from DOS II to SpartaDOS and vice-versa. But DOS II is completely unable to read a SpartaDOS disk or show its dir. A8 DOS worlds: 1) DOS II or DOS 2.x: DOS 2.0s, DOS 2.0d, DOS 2.5, Smart DOS, Top DOS, MyDOS, Bibo DOs, Turbo DOS, Super DOS, DOS XL, OS A+ 2.0, etc. 2) SDFS: Sparta DOS 2.x, Sparta DOS 3.x, SDX 4.x, Bewe-DOS, Real DOS 3) others (incompatible to everything else): DOS 3.0, DOS 4.0, DOS XE, OS A+ 4.x,

Where? (Attachment missing, I guess.) EDIT: In the moment I wrote this you added the attachment...

Well, I also have the loud beep at the beginning and end of every AVF (PAL) video with my AVG cart., so it is not an SIDE-only issue. The buzzing or whistling noise during playback of the video comes from Pokey itself said phaeron - maybe the beep also ?!? (Think I have a similar beep with PDM sounds with FJC player at the beginning and end of the sound; furthermore, FJC PDMplayer is playing approx. 2 seconds of a ?previous PDM? sound at the end of the actual PDM sound; have to test it with the latest PDM players by XUEL...)

Hello Poison, have not watched your latest videos, but the older ones were very good! One question though: Could you split the long "2Unlimited" video (consisting of multiple videos) and the very long "Amiga Demos" video (again consisting of multiple videos) into several AVF videos? E.g. if the 2Unlimited video contains five music videos, split them into five AVF videos ? And if the Amiga Demos video contains ten Amiga demos, then split them into ten AVF videos ? Happy looking forward to watch your newest videos...

Please put the latest AVG firmware on the startpage (post #1) of this topic, thank you!

Hello Xuel, does your PDM player a) playback the PDM files directly (in a "fire and forget" style) or does it b) first copy them to an unused portion of the SD-card (contiguously, without DIR, direct sector access, ...) and then play them back from there ? If I had to choose, I would prefer the direct play (fire and forget) method similar to the 50fps / 60fps videoplayer... the other method means more wear and tear for the SD-card. (For example, if I play a PDM song ten times, then it gets copied ten times and errrrm, if I playback all of my approx. 550 converted PDM sounds several times, then they get copied several thousand times and that wears out the SD-card. faster.) Note: I have not used/tested your new player yet, will do tomorrow...

Atari 1050 modifications (classic)
CharlieChaplin replied to SenorRossie's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Abbuc got all rights and documents for the Turbo 1050 from B.Engl himself. You can get Turbo 1050 enhancements nowadays from tf_hh... Back in the day the Turbo 1050 was much cheaper and smaller than the large Speedy 1050 enhancement and also offered a printer cable option - but later there was the mini Speedy 1050 and so both enhancements had almost the same price. The Speedy works with track buffer and ultraspeed, so only a driver in software (DOS, gamedos, bootloader, etc.) or hardware (e.g. alt. OS-ROM) is required to gain the much faster speed, while the Turbo 1050 has no track buffer and therefore requires a driver (in software or hardware), as well as the special sector interleave format to gain full speed. Since there is a Turbo 1050 emulator for the Speedy 1050 available (and I have several Speedy upgrades), I do not need a real Turbo 1050 enhancement anymore... -
There are dozens (if not hundreds) of disk/sector editors on the A8 which can do this, as long as they support HEX editing, which most do. I am using Happy Master and Hypra Disk quite often, they both have a search option... Happy Master Quad+ Hypra Disk 1.3 (Happy Master: Press HELP or Control-H or just H for the help menu; Hypra Disk: Press Control-I for more info)

SpartaDOS 3.x RD.COM that supports 1024K?
CharlieChaplin replied to tschak909's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Bewe-DOS is also Sparta compatible and has a file named Ramdisk.COM - works very well with Sparta and ramdisks up to 1MB (tested with Sparta 3.2f and 3.2g). -
But maybe it is one and the same guy ? The nice one when in Dr. Jekyll mood and the evil one when in Mr. Hyde mood...

Thanks for that as well, Fuls! Spotted a little typo in the PDF, Xagon appears under Z, not under X. Maybe you can also eliminate letters with no entries, so that the last entry (Zybex) still fits on page 6 ?

Missile Command: Remember the cold war era and worries about a war with nuclear weapons? This is the game for that, most of the (nuclear) weapons in this game were/are really available and the six cities in the game do represent six cities in the US. The only thing that's really unreal (as of yet) is that these nukes are so easy to shoot down and eliminate... Besides, what about the game "Dr. Mario" which we have on the A8 as a conversion ? Exchange Mario with an american president with blonde hair and you have your Corona type game...

I would, if I could see it... where is this invitation stored ? (Could not find it in the AA messenger, could not find it in my E-Mails...) EDIT: A minute after I wrote this an E-Mail turned up...

Besides, now that I have the special AVG SIO-cables (two selfmade ones and a much better looking one from Mr. Robot), I would like to try its function with some ATR images that do require RAM under the OS... Looks like firmware 019 does not recognize the SIO cable nor support such ATR images that require RAM under the OS ?!? (Or I am doing something wrong and/or must delete OSXEX first or whatever...) Where can I find the firmware 020 (no matter if alpha, beta, etc.) and do some beta-testing...? I also have a few .CAS files here, but prefer the much faster CSIM versions running from disk/ATR (afaik, no turbo tape can reach 19,200 Baud). But I am not using any ATX images...

If you still need the white (6pin) connector (NOT the white plug!), I can send it to you for free. Just send me a pm with your postal adress...
