Ah, alright then. In other words I could change this in the tables, so that a) BeweDOS max. 360k (more only with help of SpartaDOS or RealDOS or SDX, meaning you format with them, then copy BeweDOS onto the disk/harddisk), b) SpartaDOS 3.x and RealDOS 90k-16MB, c) SDX 4.4x 90k-32MB... Did not know that there are several (disk) formatter programs for SpartaDOS, have only seen Xinit.COM (and patched versions of it, like Xinit25.COM, XFInit.COM, etc.), which afaik has (have) the 720k limitation. As said before, I rarely use SpartaDOS, RealDOS, BeweDOS and never use SDX, so there you have the explanation why. (And that's why I said it is food for discussion.) But MyDOS 4.5x does not come with a format tool, afaik ?!? Using the MyDOS 4.5x DUP.SYS, you can max. configure 80 tracks, DS, DD, more is not possible, so a 1440k or 2880k diskette cannot be created with MyDOS DUP.SYS directly ?!? Whereas with a harddisk, one can use DUP.SYS to create up to 65,535 sectors. Think there are some external Black Box tools by Bob Puff (FMTDIR.COM and maybe others - I do not own a CSS Black Box nor a CSS Floppyboard) that could be used to create higher disk drive formats with MyDOS (1440k, maybe also 2880k), but no internal stuff or tools that came with MyDOS 4.5x ?!? But I might be wrong here as well...

But how do you tell MyDOS or SpartaDOS that you want to have e.g. 900k ?!? There are no tools delivered with these DOS versions to do that I think and you have to write your own tools then or isn't it ?!? Regarding SDX, yes, this is what I mentioned above as pure guess work, because I never use SDX (SpartaDOS or BeweDOS from time to time to copy programs back from SDFS into DOS 2 format, so I have seen SpartaDOS Xinit.COM and BeweDOS Format.COM, but NOT the SDX formatter). Besides, Top DOS Prof. and OS A+ 4.1 were/are also pure guess work...

Find attached some tables that list A8 formats and DOS versions able to use them with disk or hard disk drives. Before you throw your stones at me, please note that this is only a first version and you are hereby welcome to make further updates and corrections. Some entries in the tables were pure guess work and some entries are, ermmm, food for discussions, e.g. that SDFS and MyDOS do max. 720k with disk drives (80 tracks, DS, DD, e.g. with XINIT). So as said before, take a look at the tables and correct whatever you think requires correction. Maybe the tables are useless for some Atarians, but maybe they are usefull for others (consider this as a starting point). I am quite sure there are several errors in the tables or entries that are incorrect, unprecise, etc. - but luckily we do have quite many experts here that are able to correct them. The tables are all the same, created with Open Office and then saved under various text formats (DOC, ODT, RTF, PDF)... One could also add some popular gamedos versions and/or menus and which formats they support (e.g. Nano DOS, Micro DOS, Pico DOS, MyPicoDOS, Micro Sparta DOS, etc. or menus like Fender's 3-sector menu, Multiboot, Alphaload, Howfen DOS, etc.), but I leave this to others... EDIT: New download with post #18...

Just curious, now that we have several versions of MyDOS 3.x and 4.x - was there ever a MyDOS version 1.x or 2.x ?!?

Best way to play Alternate Reality on REAL Atari today?
CharlieChaplin replied to eegad's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The SIO2PC software on my PC (SIO2PC.exe, Version 4.21 for 16Bit MS-DOS by Nick Kennedy) is a bit more limited - 640KBytes RAM only you know... that could be 7 diskdrives with 90k, but it only allows four diskdrives max. But hey, AR (the Dungeon) does not support more than 4 drives anyways. -

Thanks for the info! Now I know where to look for repairs. -
Afaik, only some levels in the unaltered Brik Bat game allow to shoot at your opponent. Think in the 90s I found out that you simply have to change one byte at the beginning of each level to allow shooting for every level you want. Made a copy of the disk and then compared the sectors of a level where I could shoot with the sectors of a level where I could not shoot. In the end I changed ALL levels in such a way that you can shoot at your opponent...

Errmm, Jerry is a mouse, known from Tom & Jerry. But Tom & Jerry are also chips in the Atari Jaguar, where Tom is the GPU and Jerry is the soundchip (DSP, 32Bit Risc, etc.)... see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sound_chips where TIA, Pokey and Amy are listed under PSG and Jerry is listed under FM synthesis and PCM. The list of Yamaha soundchips is shortened there, but there is another list dedicated especially to Yamaha (including their soundchips): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Yamaha_Corporation_products#Sound_chips

If Fred has the tape, then I have a copy (with some exceptions of course)... But since I do not like CAS files, I either have a pure data copy (not bootable!) on a DOS 2 disk or a (bootable) CSIM copy. So attached you can find Cybernome (8k) and Shatablast (10.5k) as datacopies and CSIM copies. Both programs are single-stage tapes (so *.CAS and *.TAP is the same data). Cybernome.zip Shatablast.zip

Hmmm, how about Paula and Jerry...? Or Amy ? (runs and hides)

1010 doesn't play but rewinds perfectly
CharlieChaplin replied to ijor's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hmmm, with my XC-11 it is the other way around: It records and plays fine, but rewind and forward do not work very good (they work, but both are slower than play, looks like super-slow-motion). Is there also a belt responsible for this behaviour ?!? -

GTIA Music - collectively (various artists)
CharlieChaplin replied to xxl's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Data recorders ;-) ... Okay, they only play WAV (uncompressed MP3) and only in mono, but it does not cost any processor time, just a simple Poke 54018,62 (or something like that) and you can continue with whatever you want on the A8 (play games, use applications, etc.). Alternatively you can play the MP3 from your MP3 player, Hifi system, etc. and also use the Atari for something else... -
Sophia 2 - improved GTIA replacement
CharlieChaplin replied to Simius's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
- price ? (Do I have to spend a kidney?) - running with how many Ghz, ermm Mhz? - how much RAM (GB or MB) ? - 65816 onboard ? (6502C also possible?) - Sophia-3 = full HD res.? Sophia-4 = 4k res. ?!? Those who already bought a VBXE (or Sophia-1) will not like this... ;-) -
It's a K - Bootdisk, which means an XEX put onto an ATR as small as possible. K indicates Ken Siders, one may use UnmakeATR or ATRUtil by Ken Siders to extract the XEX again. Afaik, sourcecode for Bcalc is available one one of the Analog diskettes (most of the time sourcecode for BBK programs was available)... EDIT: Found the Mac65 sourcecode for B-Calc on Analog diskette 88-08a... Bcalc.xex ANA8808A.zip

Question to all Antonia 4MEG Users
CharlieChaplin replied to andymanone's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Here are some more tools that support up to 1MB... Guess you have to wait a few more years until 2MB and 4MB are more common in the A8 scene and more programs have been made for them... -

Question to all Antonia 4MEG Users
CharlieChaplin replied to andymanone's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
In my opinion, if you want to load (or playback) programs with the A8 that do require 1MB or several MB, then it's best not to use XRAM or ramdisk, since loading takes quite long and the A8 does not have a packer that packs 10:1. Loading large PDM (8Bit sample) music works best from cart., like The!Cart, AVG-cart., SIDE-cart., etc. Even 256-colour movies can be loaded very fast from these devices with up to 500KB per second (50fps PAL or 60fps NTSC), thanks to phaeron's great movieplayer. It would be rather senseless trying to load these music or movie files into XRAM. Allthough it is possible to install a second PIA chip and then control up to 256MB of RAM (or more?), there is no use for that amount of RAM in an A8. For me 1MB is the "cutting point" for XRAM in an A8 (my personal + subjective view)... Last not least, similar topics came up before, do a forum search with keywords like "1MB". -
Question to all Antonia 4MEG Users
CharlieChaplin replied to andymanone's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well, there are several tools and demos, but afaik very few games for 1MB (looks like Atari Blast is the only one atm). I do not know many A8 programs that require more than 1MB however... http://a8.fandal.cz/search.php?search=1024&butt_details_x=x I have several (mostly self-created) TIP-Animations in my collection that do require 1MB RAM, but loading them from diskette or ATR takes a while (also with harddisk, since I packed them). Not all of them are worth the loading time I think. You can copy them onto 360k and 720k disks or ATR images or try direct XEX loading. Two animations (Homer and LeeNorris) were done with Rastaconverter by an AA member here. Evil as I am, I also attach some 576k TIP-animations (but I will NOT upload the porn stuff). Besides, all TIP animations created by me were made for PAL and tested on real PAL Atari 800XL... Ani_1088k.zip Ani_0576k.zip Mr. Atari created an approx. 1.4MByte movie (Gr. 9) of Yar's Revenge for harddisk - I made some small changes in the TB XL player, so it loads the movie into a MyDOS Ramdisk and plays it from there. It even works with smaller ramdisks (e.g. my 512k ramdisk), but I could not get it loaded/copied with ultraspeed and loading that amount of data with standard 19k2 Baud takes quite a while (loading takes longer than playback/watching). There is also an ANIMATion from Poland that requires 1MB, but I could not get it loading, since it absolutely wants to run from harddisk (IDE+, IDE-a, etc.)... YAR_RD.zip ANIMAT_1MB.zip Regarding tools and utilities, there are also some programs available that support up to 1MB RAM, e.g. Inertia Player 4.5 by MadTeam (a MODplayer that supports Pokey and Covox), MOD Player 6502 by MadTeam (there is also MOD Player 65816), NEO-Tracker 1.7 and 1.8 by Epi (supports Pokey and Covox), the Small Printery (Printing program) and a few others. http://madteam.atari8.info/index.php?prod=uzytki NEOTRACK.zip SMALPRT.zip -
