  1. Hmmm, what ATR do you mean? The Newell.ATR boots MyDOS, if you do a directory listing you see: a) some *. files (no extender!), these are COM/EXE/XEX files, use "L" binary load to load them b) some .BAS files, use "B" to go to cartridge and then RUN"D:FILENAME.BAS" to load them c) some .ARC files, first load UNARC, then unarc these files, then try to load the unarced files as .BAS or .COM files (in case these are .TXT files use option "C" then FILENAME.TXT,E:) d) the Autorun.SYS file tries to load a file named "XLXETEST.BAS" e) one *.AUT file is a ramdisk driver, if one wants to use it, rename it to Autorun.Sys, then reboot the diskette, e.g. with option "M" run at adress and then E477 (I guess that RDAR.SYS is the same as Ramboot3.AUT, but have not tested it and might be wrong) f) one *.M65 file, this is MAC65 assembler sourcecode, you can display it like a textfile (with option "C" then Filename.M65,E:) or load it into Mac65 (and other assemblers) to view and/or assemble it
  2. Hmmm, I do not have Rapidus and afaik there is not much out there, found the firmware, two demos and some tools on Drac030's webpage: Firmware, 3D starfield, rotozoomer Let's Emu CP/Emu
  3. Hmmm, depending on how much power this device consumes, you may add power to PBI pin 47 or 48 and then power this device internally or simply use an external power supply. Open for adding features? AA users will surely give you dozens of ideas what could be added. I would like to see some kind of AIO device, meaning a PBI device that is more than just one upgrade (IDE-upgrade/interface, XRAM-upgrade, sound-upgrade/sound-add-on, gfx-upgrade, OS-upgrade/switcher, etc. all-in-one).
  4. ... and I can hear The Doors singing "Break on through to the other side"...
  5. @tmp: What kind of hardware is your new Avatar? And errrm, when will the new/latest firmware 0.21 (or 0.22) be released to the public ? (No complaint, just hoping for an easter egg / easter gift.) I also wrote some stupid questions in the "AVG member club section"...
  6. Errrm well, you have the SIO-cable and still use OSXEX ? OSXEX works only with programs that do NOT use RAM under the OS. So, SpartaDOS 3.x will never work without the SIO-cable on the AVG cart and even with the SIO-cable, do NOT use OSXEX do not use Shift-Return, do not walk past Go!, do not earn 400 dollars, just boot it. ----- SIO-cable not present: simply use OSXEX to load ATR images (programs that require RAM under OS will not work) SIO-cable present: a) boot with OSXEX: press Shift-Return to load ATR images faster and without SIO (but again, programs that require RAM under OS will not work) b) boot without OSXEX: press Return (boot with Basic) or Option+Return (boot without Basic) to load ATR images slower and with SIO and now almost all programs should work I would suggest to avoid booting with OSXEX if the SIO-cable is present, but afaik there is no need to remove OSXEX from the SD-card, just avoid booting with it by using a different key-combo. This works for me and I still have OSXEX on the SD-card.
  7. Hmmm, if I remember correctly you can create new levels with the Dandy editor - and they will look like Dandy levels then. But you cannot change the font or charset with the editor and thats what they did. They changed the font and thus the look of the game, i.e. your players are now soldiers, the monsters are now Aliens and Facehuggers, the spawners are now Alien eggs, etc. Or is there a way to change the font/charset with the editor that I am not aware of ?
  8. Well, since I converted some of the RGB pics myself (and indeed used 256 colour GIFs) I would say both. Jeff Potter's Apacview and Jview (they use NTSC colour palettes afaik) do only convert GIF87a into R,G,B or .RGB. I do not know of any JPG, PNG, BMP, TIF, etc. converter that converts into A8 Colourview R,G,B or .RGB mode. Maybe a nice programming work for PC programmers: Make a program that converts JPG or PNG or BMP or TIF (e.g. max. 640x400 res., e.g. max. 65k colours) into three separate R, G, B pictures with a max. resolution of 80x192 pixels (16 red, 16 green, 16 blue tones)...
  9. 1200XL just sold for $531 on eBay. Why? a) Because $532 was too much. b) The bidding time ended (before $532 was reached). Press SELECT to make a selection or OPTION to choose an option.
  10. Haha, in case ballyalley is still searching, here is the .BAS and .XEX version of Closeout. The XEX version is compiled Basic (ABC, MMG or similar). [Besides, long time no hear from DWhyte - hope he is still alive.] Closeout.zip
  11. Hmmm, a little bit off-topic, but anyways... Colourview is supposed to have up to 4096 colours (16x16x16) and that sounds fantastic. I have approx. 26 disk images with Colourview RGB pictures on them, none of them, really NONE of them has anything near 4096 colours, not even 256 colours. So I am asking, what is wrong or does not work with Colourview ? The Gr. 9 Colourview pics I have do show approx. 3-4 colours each with 16 shades (thats 48-64 colours, not more) and most of these colours are greys, browns and violets in all their shades, the colours blue, red and green are rarely (almost never) seen in those pics. Is it because I am using PAL Ataris and Colourview works better/best on NTSC ? Or what else could be wrong ? The Gr. 15 Colourview pics (4x4x4) seem to work better, they easily reach 16-32 colours, but rarely 64 colours. Gr. 8 Colourview pics should get 2x2x2 = up to 8 colours or greys, but all I get is 2-4 greys with all of them. As said before, the most disappointing mode is Gr. 9 Colourview... ----- Regarding a Colourview R,G,B (uncompressed) or .RGB (compressed) viewer, think I have 3 or 4 in my collection. One of them is by Clay Halliwell and written in Atari Basic (+MC, for compressed RGB pics), maybe this one or some of the others might help when programming yet another viewer ? 12. One can make some simple videos/animations in Gr. 6, like these two from M.Sobe... - BMW animation (requires 128k RAM) - Nascar animation (requires 128k RAM) GR6DEMOS.zip
  13. Is that setup really with Sys-Check plugged in ? Could be a) that MyDOS 4.2 and its ramdisk driver is limited to 192k ramdisk (which I doubt) or b) you did not use Sys-Check, but simply have a computer with 256k RAM (64k base RAM replaced with 256k RAM, so you actually have 64k base RAM and 192k XRAM) or c) MyDOS 4.2 is not configured correctly for your setup. I guess it is option c)... Afair, in older versions of MyDOS you have to configure your setup by typing in the rambank page sequence of your setup at least once (and save it by writing new DOS files with the H command), for a Sys-Check 512k RAM extension you could type in: 03,07,0B,0F,23,27,2B,2F,43,47,4B,4F,63,67,6B,6F, 83,87,8B,8F,A3,A7,AB,AF,C3,C7,CB,CF,E3,E7,EB,EF Tried it with MyDOS 4.2c and it did not work that way. Maybe it wants decimal numbers or the numbers must not be separated with commas or something else? Better use a newer version of MyDOS, like 4.54 or 4.55 and the ramdisk driver MyRD2 by Lee Barnes - all of that can be found on Mathy's homepage or in the attachment of post 202. This MyDOS 4.5x version and the ramdisk driver automatically detect the size of your ramdisk, so you do not have to type in the rambank page sequence anymore.
  14. Let me have a threesome with IBM and Atari then...
  15. Think it is/was XIO 39 vs. XIO 40 for binary load...?!? (https://atariwiki.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=XIO Command Codes DOS Handler)
  16. Imagination says: "(It's) just an illusion!" - and its untrue! (www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFaCuHa10oE) Of course the 512k RAM can be used in an XE. If the XE already has XRAM (e.g. a 130XE) then the Sys-Check will simply disable it.
  17. Depends on the DOS and the Ramdisk driver you are using, e.g. the original DOS 2.5 and its original ramdisk driver will always give you just a 64k ramdisk (499 single density free sectors from 512). BiboDOS, SuperDOS, TurboDOS, XDOS and a few others are limited to 256k max. ramdisk size (999+ double density free sectors). You will also find some DOS versions and ramdisk drivers that are limited to max. 128k ramdisk size (e.g. other ramdisk drivers for DOS 2.5, older versions of SuperDOS, etc. with 999+ single density free sectors). With MyDOS 4.5x, SpartaDOS, BeweDOS, RealDOS, etc. and the appropriate ramdisk driver you can have ramdisks up to 1MB, e.g. I am using the MyRD2 ramdisk driver under MyDOS 4.5x - it fully supports my 512k memory upgrade and gives me 4078 single density (128Byte) free sectors when totally empty and 4024 free sectors with DUP (thats 54 sectors for DUP on D8)... 18. Well, Copy 2000 was originally written for a Speedy compatible enhancement, if you were using a Happy enhancement it would not work (error while formatting, error while writing); whereas the Happy Sector Copier program is intended for a Happy drive and will give errors with other enhancements. But since you are using some kind of floppy emulator, these programs may or may not work depending on the setting or config. of your floppy emulator (e.g. with SIO2SD I tested Copy 2000 successfully up to Pokey divisor zero). Maybe you should use some sector copy programs that support ultraspeed in general, no matter if Happy, Speedy, USD or some other ultraspeed drive/device - some good programs are e.g. MyCopyr! 1.2c, MyCopyr! 2.1 and Diskcopy (from TurboDOS XL/XE). On the attached disk image these are programs F and L. ? means unknown/unreadable/protected sector data (or sector data completely missing, e.g. you will find some 64k ATR images online at pigwa and since 90k is the lowest A8 disk format, the missing sectors will appear as question marks in Mycopyr). SECTCOPY.zip
  19. Hmmm, I never used it, but maybe SDG does that ? How about Graph it and its Enhancement sometimes named Graph it II ? And there was also B/Graph. Maybe one of them offers what you are searching for.
  20. It is the opposite in the 16Bit world: The Atari Amiga is so much better than the Commodore ST...
  21. Hmmm, he's from Pennsylvania, so he most-likely requires NTSC format videos (60fps). Afair, there are not that many available here on AA, since most videos were done for PAL format (50fps). Here is what I have for NTSC (all videos untested, since I have only PAL machines; there was also a large NTSC video for Dragon's Lair and a video for Half Life afair)... There you will find the large Dragon's Lair NTSC video (simply rename to *.AVF). And there is Half Life (PAL/NTSC). 22. He is looking at his wife, sitting naked on the table (to the right/offscreen) to distract him from the A8. His wife is only wearing high heels and nothing else and his response is something like: "Nice shoes, really nice shoes". ("Late Closing" probably means late clothing or lost clothing.)
  23. Wikipedia also mentions J.R.R. Tolkien: "J. R. R. Tolkien hiked from Interlaken to the Lauterbrunnen Valley while on a school trip to the Continent in 1911. The landscape of the valley later provided the concept and pictorial model for his sketches and watercolours of the fictitious valley of Rivendell, the dwelling place of Elrond Half-elven and his people."
