Never played anything older than an N64 -- interested in Atari 7800
Ripdubski replied to Angband's topic in Atari 7800
Legit, and you will get a practically new unit with upgraded internal buttons. You can also get the AV mod to make hookup easier. I got mine from Best not long ago. Top notch. You can also do an unadvertised special that gives you a 10 credit and loses the joysticks. You can then choose the proper 7800 sticks, or the euro pads. I got both, but the europads suck. The d-pad on one is already broken. And the inverse hat makes it awkward if your used to playing with modern controllers. -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

I have one pack of Star Wars cards from 1976, never opened. The gum stick is still inside as well. Need to ebay it. -
Wow youve really put some thought into it. Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Die hard OSX here since it came out. Zero problems for me as opposed to the many Win machines i have used. I will say I hve had good luck with Win 7 aside from the constant updates. I ran OS/2 Warp for a couple of years and could not crash it, though I tried which was very unlike Windows of the day. And of course who doesnt love the Atari "OS" as a general term. On the 8 bit I prefer Sparta, then MyDOS.

XM301 Modem to x86 PC for file transfer?
Ripdubski replied to bongomeno's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
In the mid 90's I built a null modem cable. Connected it between my 850 and the serial port on the PC. I wrote a script in ProCom+ that accepted commands. The script parsed the input and responded. Inputs were simple like dir, cd, put, get - think ftp like stuff, and a size cmd which calculated how big the file would be on the atari drive in single and double density. I used Amodem on the A8 to connect. Worked like a charm. Kind a poor mans SIO2PC, albeit a lot less functinal. I think it worked fine up to 19.2 as well, o maybe it was 9600 I used. I still have the cable but would have to dig it out and take it apart to see how I built it. -

I like the new retro clock. Makes all the difference. Did you ever have to seperate the C64 and 800XL for fighting?
-
Make sure have the latest version. Im using it without issues at 10.9.

Interesting!

I downloaded the SDX MyIDE ][ ROM and put it in the Fat32 space. Boot loader sees it, loads it. Sparta boots - sort of. I tried two versions of the ROM, one from FJC, one from Atarimax, both for MyIDE ][, both version 4.46. The Atarimax one will boot all the way to D1 prompt, but no devices are accessible (error 138). The FJC one hangs after it completes the ROM load. I must be misunderstanding this, or maybe its just time to pull the SIDE 2 trigger.

Wishing for Vintage Packard Bell Master CD
Ripdubski replied to Anuextreme23's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
It is not in good shape. Very rough with marker on several sides and tape. Trust me, you don't want it. -
This why I said, "I know the connection".

Looks similar to Radio Shack, i know the connection, surge protector i got in the mid 80's and still use today though the on/off lamp is burnt out. Cant say ive had others that lasted that long yet, though my APC ones are pulling a close second.

Wishing for Vintage Packard Bell Master CD
Ripdubski replied to Anuextreme23's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Cant help you with that but I have a vintage Packard Bell CRT box which has held some of my Atari collection since the mid 90's.
