  1. Why not just say he only had one in stock in the first place? That's what I don't get.

He may not know until he goes and actually gets it. I dont beleive he knows everything he has, and its probably hard for a small operation to inventory and track, unlike a big corporation like Atari. And that excludes other factors like unknown damaged inventory - say a rodent chewed one. Would you be able to know down to the last cable in an entire wrehouse full of boxes if you were the sole person doing it? I cant say that i could. I would do my best to try.

Being a small operation he likely doesnt have time to keep the website or catalog as up to date as possible. Its written on the main page anyway - check the online updates. Yes its a pain, but it would be a bigger pain to find these parts if he were not in business. And being small he/they/whatever will have a harder time repsonding multiple times to the same email thread and same questions regardless if there was a misinterpretation.

Will a mistake be made, possibly, but whos perfect? A mistake will be made from time to time. It happens. Point being you can have a bad experience with any retailer, and sometimes multiple people do. If you dont like Best or him, go find your niche stuff somewhere else - the used one with the chipped corner and sharpie writing on ebay may be a better choice than the new one from Best.

I dont care if he's one guy or fifty. I stand behind the good experiences I've had with Best. If I were him and had to deal with some of the attitudes here, I'd choose not to sell to you, limited market or not. Just saying, understanding and patience goes a lomg way.

  2. I got it doing what I wanted. I am going to get a SIDE as well, with my intent of using MyIDE ][ for my son. So MyDOS is no issue. I was just curious about the flash process.

Got a 4GB CF card, initialized, created a partition, formatted, wrote DOS, reboot, enable basic, wash hands. Boot, MyBIOS, any key, READY prompt. Yay! save to disk, load from disk, dos, Yay!

  3.

You're getting a better than new unit. The power and reset internal switches are replaced with brand new better quality ones. The composite out is good, not as good as one with a Longhorn Eng. board but still worlds better than dealing with RF.

The cosmetics are flawless. The system I received had a brand new faceplate and not one blemish on the shell. I was highly impressed. Plus it ships like something from Fort Knox. I have never had anything sent that was packaged so well.

Glad to hear that. I've bought from Best many times and I'm always impressed with how the stuff looks and how its shipped. When I got the last box from them the mailman asked me "Is Atari still in business?!?" He was astonished.

  4. When you say "it did nothing", do you mean that it did not turn the computer off when the door was open (i.e. stays ON).

That. It did not turn off like it should have. I'll check the voltage on the PSU. I have a PS for a 1050, but I have to dig it out. When I say black screen - I see the video blink like its going to come on, but the screen is "almost black" afterward. Thanks for the help so far.

  5. Two weeks ago I used my 800, bought new in 1980. It worked fine using a monitor out to composite cable. I got a new monitor to s-video cable for my 130XE. It was giving me some vertical stripes so I pulled out the 800 and tried the s-video cable on it. Black screen. Tried the composite cable on it that worked just 2 weeks ago. Black screen. Each time I left the computer on just long enough to hear the boot sound, worried about the PSU.

So, thoughts? PSU or 800 gone bad? Other troubleshooting? I guess I can try the RF out.

    Thanks,

    Wade

  6. Hows the durability? I played on a MsPacMan/PP/MT plug and plug and the stick busted after just a little while under very little stress. It was one of the sticks that you could twist and change from 8 way to 4 way. Thats the part that broke.

  7. To the OP. For me, when I feel over inundated with things I want to do, I take a few days and narrow the focus to those things that really mean something to me. Then later when I feel I have extra energy/resources to give, I spread it out a little. Nothing depressing about it. Its reality. We dont all have time for jobs, kids, wives, atari, name your console, name your car fandom, guitars or name your instrument, television, movies, books, blogging, exercise, etc. it would be nice if we did, but we just dont. Just a matter of properly focusing your time/energy into those things that mean the most or make you the happiest, the rest is just fluff.
