1. Getting rid of stuff as I moved on, then having to re-acquire. Who didnt do that?
2. When I was a kid I stayed home from school one day "sick" and playing 2600/800 all day, and looking through the computer mags. I had been eyeing Canyon Climber for some time, so I called the mail orde advertiser. I told them I wanted and asked how I could pay, think I was 11 or 12 at the time. They said COD would be OK. I didnt know what it was at the time and asked which the lady then explained. I told her go ahead and gave her my info. I had no idea how long it should take to receive. I waited and waited, it never came. Finally saved up enough to buy it at the local game store. I can only imagine the lady hanging up and having a good laugh. Blunder? IDK, but there was probably a better way to get it.

Nice work! Cant wait to see it finished.

Definately Scott Addams.
Having not played them, i thought they had half gfx half text. I booted a couple and they appeared to be text only. Is there a trick?
-
Is there a contact for ordering when its time? I skipped a few pages here but didnt see a list.
-
Please advise when/if more orders will be accepted. Looks great!

It pays to scroll down a few threads.
I was just about to ask similar questions regarding the 7800 and this thread answered them. I'll go ahead an start scouting for a 7800. Its one of those systems that I always wanted since its debut, but never acquired. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the OP! -
Im not reallly going to use it on a regular basis. I just want to be able to show it off from time to time, but cant do squat without any software.

Mattell handhelds -> Atari VCS -> Atari 800 -> NES -> TG16 -> SNES -> Sega Saturn -> N64 -> nothing / Lynx 2 / GBC / GBA / PC -> PS2 -> XBox 360
I was really disenchanted with gaming during the Saturn through PS2 in my timeline, which pretty much went from 1993ish to 2010ish. 17ish years having no games that really pulled me in.
Content Favorites: A8, SNES, XBox 360
Had the most fun with: SNES

Which ones were half graphics/half text on the Atari?

Its a good starting point. Lots of potential. I've wanted to build a mame cade for the last few years.

Thanks for the input. Ill look into floimg.

I cant take credit for anything posted in this thread. I was just commenting that the Action! Wiki link is extremely useful.

I have a 520ST, SF354, and. SX212. I have 0 (zero) program disks.
Is there any wy to get a program to it so it can be written to disk? Im thinking i need a terminal program to start with at the very least. I was thinking about an SD interface but not ready yet.
Some way to write to the 360K floppy? Connect the drive mech up to PC even it would even work?
Just out of luck for now?
Any help wouold be appreciated.

Ah, I see.
The manual documents the runtime functions. Also joyfulcoder documents them here. AtariWiki has the source for the runtime here. Is that what's contained on Action! Run Time Disk the Action! Run Time Manual?
Either way, I can also understand wanting to preserve the originals for posterity.
Now thats a useful link! Thanks!

Might be nice to serve this up via one of the web sharing sites, like SkyDrive, Google Drive, etc, at least for viewing. You can allocate some editors as well if needed.

Wow! Very nice project. The last thing I wanted to build was a control interface for one of Radio Shacks robotic arms back in the 80's. The other thing I never completed but almost did was a speech synthesizer, again parts from Radio Shack. Just needed to wrte some software to drive it. But this blows those away. Well done!

You could always do an ATASCII movie.
-
I read many times it was one of the games that saw prolific pirating before the actual release date and thats why it was never released.

Since you said read/write, this may help. I just went through the whole decision process you are starting. I bought the MyIDE ][, but am also about to get SIDE2.

I played the hell out of River Raid, so it should be. But Pitfall, Kaboom, Sky Jinks also saw serious playtime.
