No, one of the ones that runs on the Atari itself.

Would still like source that can compile. I'd like to experiment with adding an on screen keyboard, and additional "console" keys like clear screen, inverse keystrokes, etc. Those that take 4 fingers to invoke on my laptop Shft-Func-Alt-Fx.

Mellis,
I appreciate your efforts with this. I really like how simple Atari800MacX works and if you or others can keep it limping along I know many of us would be grateful.
Thanks!

I'm looking for one of those programs that makes text using graphic chars, like we used to use in creating BBS screens etc. I can't remember any of the names. Help me out please.
Thanks

Thanks, that is close. I guess I need a re-education in Atari sound.

Can I hook a modem to the serial version of the SIO2PC cable sold by AtariMax?
-
I want to write a simple routine in BASIC to create a pop noise. Like the sound made by pressing your lips together then opening your mouth real fast. I don't have the sound skills with the Atari BASIC to even know where to start. In other words, I don't know what sound statements make what noises or how I might create such a noise combining things together.
Can anyone suggest a small routine or point me in the right direction.
Thx in advance!

Can the serial version be used to connect a modem or other RS232 device to the Atari? Is there an R handler for it? I looked around but didn't find an answer.
Looking for a relatively cheap way to add RS232 port without having to buy an 850 or PR.
Thanx
Wade

That is true, but the point is that if Apple has changed the audio subsystem in macOS Sierra and Atari800MacX is no longer being updated that Mac users need to be aware.
Will the final macOS Sierra and Atari800MacX work together? Who knows. But the way the beta currently stands it does not work.
I wanted other Mac users to be aware if that they wanted to play about with the beta that they should hold off if Atari800MacX is important to them.
Thx. I won't update my main systems then!

I actually listened to the podcast twice cuz when I was listening the first time was kinda working and was sometimes distracted so I figured I better give it another listen. I will not ask for anything since this is just the start and with any new thing, it has to have time to find its groove. So far, I'm enjoying what I hear and look forward to the next STupendous show.

Thanks. I spent quite a bit of time planning, and bouncing ideas around. Your in the lead for listened the most award..

Next episode is looking to be just a bit bigger.

I ask as I start to listen podcast

Apologies. That didn't occur to me. Hope you enjoyed it.

What was music at beginning of podcast?
Someone didn't listen all the way through.
The music is fully credited at the end of the episode, and used with permission. I'll include more of the track in the next episode for those interested. The segment leaders are also from the same track, as well as the closing audio. It was created by Factor6 for the 2010 YM Digital album Extreme Lo Fi. It's a track called GeneraliST. It was composed entirely on two 520 ST's. Links to Factor6's SoundCloud site are in the episode show notes on the website: http://1632podcast.info. The SoundCloud site has the entire track as well.

All,
I did get notice today from Kagi that they are out of business.
Before I release the source for Sio2OSX, I want to finish the process of getting it to build on the current Xcode. I had started that about 6 months ago, as it was easier than Atari800MacX since it doesn't depend on external libraries. I'll hopefully get a chance to do that in the next month or so.
I may look at Paypal when I get that process complete.
Thanks,
Mark
I'm just glad you got my registration money for SIO2OSX and donation for Atari800MacX in August 2015. Thanx for anything you can do to help get these updatable.

Finished listening to it. I enjoyed some of the historical facts on the early days of the ST, though I'm sure the audience is already well informed on the subject.

My one comment is that for a podcast about rediscovering your feelings about the ST, I feel like I didn't hear much about your personal perspective on it. I would prefer less on the price of UK magazines and more on what you thought of the software you tried, some frustrations you had, and how it differs from when you originally owned it.

The history was included mainly for younger listeners, or those newly interested in the ST. Yes, there are some.
Its not about rediscovering "my feelings". Its about rediscovering the machine. I don't have many feelings on it at the moment, nor did I back in 86. That is part of my problem with the machine. I want to discover what I possibly missed, what respect I "should" have for it, or gain some insight as to why I didn't/don't have feelings for it. Since this was the episode covering the first ~9 months at launch, there hasn't been a whole lot to alter my perspective - yet. I wholly expect this to change as the chronology unfolds. I will try to make a point of new observations/perspectives in each episode, in fact, I already thought that a show summary should be included at the end of each episode.
As for the UK pricing of the magazines, pricing info is now over. It was once and done. It was mainly for the UK listeners, and those US listeners that may want to have a comparison point. I do, however, intend on continued coverage of the UK magazines content.
Thanks for listening and the feedback!

Thanks for the positive comments, and glad no one has been offended by the post. The podcast is available on iTunes now.
I tried submitting to Google Play, but WordPress.com (my host) doesn't embed the email meta tag, and Google has made it a requirement. So InverseATASCII is on Google Play, because it was setup several months ago, but 1632 is not, and can not for the time being. I have a support ticket opened with WordPress.com, so hopefully it will be updated in the near future.
I still need to submit to Stitcher, but I don't think many people listen from there (or at least I don't see that from InverseATASCII).
Thanks for listening!

A new podcast has arrived!
The 16/32 podcast - Wade's Atari ST podcast is out. Wade, can you post the URL?
website: http://1632podcast.info
rss: http://1632podcast.info/categorypodcast/feed/
2 things to note for other podcasters:
1) Google has altered the podcast submission criteria since InverseATASCII was submitted. They now require the <iTunes:email> meta tag, which WordPress.com doesn't embed. So, while InverseATASCII is on Google Play, 1632 is not. I have a support ticket open with them regarding it.
2) WordPress.com altered their plans since I setup InverseATASCII two years ago. You now have to purchase the premium plan to host audio or video files. That plan is 8.50 per month (on sale for me at least at 6.50 per month right now). Since I'm already paying for domains, extra storage, and a custom theme for IA, I don't want to incur another cost. So I'm hosting the audio files from inverseATASCII. I thought this might break some syndicators because the feed URL domain was different than the media URL domain, but iTunes didn't care, so hopefully the others won't either. So, if you look at the feed, the media files are actually coming from inverseatascii.info.

Please excuse the intrusion. I wanted to publicize my new podcast about the Atari ST. If I get an overwhelming number of complaints on this post, I will delete it, but I though some of you may not venture in the podcast thread. Apologies if anyone is offended by the post.
I've just released the 1st episode of my new podcaST. This is a podcaST about the Atari ST. This project started as blog idea, and blossomed into this. It is the documentation of my journey of re-discovery of the Atari ST.

You can easily compile from disk, but compiling to disk requires a special procedure and extra code, and can be tricky to make work sometimes.
OH, I didn't catch that the first time. I will have to learn how to compile TO disk. Thx for pointing this out.

All,
I have not updated either SIO2OSX or Atari800MacX in quite some time. That is still on my list of things to do, however, I work full time and am also a PhD student, so it is essentially like having 2 full time jobs. In addition, my company recently had a downsizing, and I am now looking for a new job, and job search is also a full time job.
The reason I am writing this is that I would like to thank everyone for their support over the many years of the 2 programs development. However, I would urge everyone to not donate to Atari800MacX, nor purchase SIO2OSX any longer. The company I was using for license management and fee collection, Kagi, I am assuming is going out of business. They sent me a check for $137 for fees that had been collected over the last several months. The check bounced several days after I deposited it, resulting in a $15 fee for me, and the company refuses to answer repeated phone calls or emails.
For SIO2OSX, posted below is my registration key, which may be used with my permission to unlocked the licensed features of SIO2OSX (license allows longer than 5 minute use). SIO2OSX is now freeware. (I will open source it as well, as time allows).
Mark
SIO2OSX license key:
Name: Mark Grebe
Code: SIO-4E28CK-Y6YKK-WU55L-GKHT0-MC1MY-QDG7N-9M
Thanks Mark! Hope everything works out. If you ever have a chance or feel inclined, please consider helping get it compiling under new versions of the OS and Xcode. Many of us would like to get AtariMacX updated with some new features and bring it closer in line with other emulators.

Great responses. Thanks.
The banks will be used for data, not program code.
I set this variable as 16K and defined at $4000:
BYTE ARRAY bMem(16384)=$4000
I thought this would reserved that 16K block at $4000 for this variable. Then switching the banks out would allow the variable to reference data in that bank from the same address. At least I think thats how it would work based on my reading.
I will try the compile from disk. Even that simple program listed above craps out when run from disk (compiled from memory).
I've been using SpartDOS 3.2g under emulation. The use of the emulator is how I found the status of PORTB. Next question, does it matter which DOS is in use when the program is written to disk from from the monitor using WRITE?

Im trying to learn how to use bank switching in Action!
; PORTB banking bit scheme ; SLF,NA,ANT,CPU,BNK,BNK,BAS,OS = FLDS ; 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 = BNUM ; 128,64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1 = BVAL ; 1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 1 = 243 M ; 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1 = 227 1 ; 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1 = 231 2 ; 1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1 = 235 3 ; 1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1 = 239 4 MODULE ; Bank switch defines DEFINE PORTB = "$D301" DEFINE BANKM = "243" DEFINE BANK1 = "227" DEFINE BANK2 = "231" DEFINE BANK3 = "235" DEFINE BANK4 = "239" PROC Main() BYTE ARRAY bMem(16384)=$4000 ; Set bank 1 memory Poke(PORTB,BANK1) SetBlock(bMem,16384,50) ; Set bank 2 memory Poke(PORTB,BANK2) SetBlock(bMem,16384,51) ; Set bank 3 memory Poke(PORTB,BANK3) SetBlock(bMem,16384,52) ; Set bank 4 memory Poke(PORTB,BANK4) SetBlock(bMem,16384,53) ; Set bank M memory Poke(PORTB,BANKM) SetBlock(bMem,16384,49) RETURN
When I compile and run this in the Action! monitor, it works fine. PORTB is correctly set at 243, and 4000 to 7FFF is filled with 49.
When I include it in a larger program, with the Action! runtime, it crashes the machine. At crash, PORTB is 227, and 4000 to 7FFF is filled with 0. I think its crashing on the SetBlock for bank 1 "SetBlock(bMem,16384,50)".
So two questions. 1) Am I doing this right? 2) What could be causing it to crash when in a larger program using the runtime?

No later than summer 86. A few of my friends had them too, and we would often set the baud rate up close to 400. IIRC we got a lot of garbage at anything over 390-ish.

Text Graphic Char font program(s)?
in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Posted
Maybe its easier to explain if I post an example. Im looking for software that can create text like this. I used to have one way back when, that had multiple fonts. I just can't remember what is was called. Sort of ATASCII fig-lets.
