Anyone know where I can go hunting for games this week? I'm stuck in the downtown area but I'm daydreaming of finding games. Anyone wanna help me out?

I have to say that I've been lucky enough to be 'that guy' a number of times, so even though I usually come up empty handed, it's hard to complain. You'd be willing to lose out a few hundred times if it meant you'd find a Quadrun for $2 along the way.

I use magazine bags for my boxes, as you can put it in sideways and it's a nicer fit IMHO.

Good point about asking in the wrong place. Duh. I'm a 2600 person, so it never even occurred to me to go next door to the 7800 forum. My bad.

I have someone offering me a ATARI 7800 system with 22 games, 2 7800 joysticks, 1 2600 joystick, and 1 AC adaptor. I don't know the games or condition, though he says it's pretty good. The asking price is $50. Is that reasonable?

Clearly, this woman exemplifies class.

I can't say that I ever found D-list actress/stand-up Sarah Silverman especially amusing (typically one expects a so-called comedianne to be, oh I don't know, funny perhaps?) But I picked up the latest issue of Chunklet, a great rock zine out of Atlanta, and there she is, talkin' trash about my 2600. There's an interview with Silverman where she says straight up, "I think Atari is kind of gay." What a coincidence--that's exactly what I think of her, too.

@#$%&!! I told him I was passing on the deal since I figured they wouldn't work. I'll have to contact him and 'reconsider.' He had four machines but only one in the service box.

ebay always makes 'improvements' that make things worse, and they don't care what users think. Remember the GOOD OLD DAYS when you only had to fill out ONE page to list an item instead of FIVE pages?! I hate ebay but that's where people are--I sell mostly stuff that is not Atari, so bidiots isn't a viable option for me, sadly

I have someone offering to sell me four consoles, none of which are in the original box,but one is in a box labeled "service exchange only." Of course, he wants me to name a price. Can anyone post a shot of what one of these boxes look like before I name a price to this dude? Any suggestions on a price to offer. He has *some* joysticks and a few powerpacks and doesn't know if they work. I'm thinking I might pass on this altogether, but I am curious about that box.
Anyone?

Last fall, I bought all 12 Supercharger cassettes and manuals along with about 12 cartridge holders (some still in the box), about 10 common carts, some Atari mags, some boxed joysticks and other odds and ends for $50.
I can definitely tell you that the last two Supercharger games didn't come with boxes, because
A) he said he bought them all via mail from the company back in the day and they came without boxes;
B) the manuals for them are not on glossy stock and contain no cover graphcis.
C) they didn't have cover inserts in the tape cases, so I don't imagine they'd forgo covers for boxes.
I was so psyched to make that deal, as I had the box and manual for Supercharger Frogger but no cassette, so I figured I'd never complete it--but I did. Good things come along if you wait.

Wonder if I can make a side deal for that sweet Megamania poster on the side of it?

I've got a nice Activision lot in there, plus some Tron games, Skate Boardin' and a batch more. There's also some music-related auctions with rare stuff for acts like Hoobastank, Fefe Dobson and others.

not as good as the other one, but I know I paid more than this for mine.

I got a copy a few months ago which he was selling on ebay. Turned out he hadn't gotten copies from the printer yet, so I had to wait what seemed like forever. Good ebayer though, FWIW.
Anway, I strongly suspect that it is a self-published work. There are no photos or graphics in it, and the only non-review material in it is less than 5-6 pages. I didn't have the moral outrage that other readers seem to have had when they read it; more like I was just bored. Screen shots would have helped it a lot.

Is there a screen shot of the proposal cart somewhere? I gotta admit, I'm curious.

I had to clean mine out a year or so back. The roller bars that track how the ball is moving had gotten all rusty from sweaty palms, I guess. They were leaving a brown residue all over the ball when you rolled it--which then got all over your hand. I got rid of it easily enough with some sandpaper lightly applied to the bars, but it took a while--maybe an hour--to do all of them.
Of course, when you put it all back together, you should douse the sucker in copious amounts of ArmorAll.

Today's Finds and a Tool Question
in Atari 2600
Posted
I bought a buttload of Atari stuff from a retired TV repairman today (including the boxed 'service exchange only' one that I posted about a few weeks ago). In amongst all the stuff was a box of fairly cruddy joysticks, most of which the handle sleeve slides off of them, revealing the white stick underneath. He mentioned in passing that he used to have a special tool that was used to fix the rubber of the sleeve back into place--has anyone heard of this tool? I'd never even seen a mention of it before (I sure wish he still had it--I would have bought that too).
In all, I got:
--A brand-new 2600 in the 'service exchange only' box.
--Another clearly brand-new 2600.
--A scuffed but otherwise new 5200 with the pink plastic still on the metal stripe, with 1 controller and a power pack (my first 5200!).
--A silver-boxed 2600 power adaptor (never seen them that way before).
--5 joysticks, all in need of a serious bath.
--Odds and ends like a TV switch and two cables from 2600 power adapters that apparently were snipped off.
All in all, I'm happy with the deal--and now he is too, because he's going to start digging through his attic for "a buncha games I got--maybe 100 and they're still all in the boxes." If I don't hear from him in a week, man, I'm definitely nagging him until he goes searching for those games...
