Six of one, half-dozen of the other. (and when you use phrases like that, you KNOW you're an old coot). I write about the concert industry for a living so I go to a lot of shows; I'll often invite friends to join me for an evening out. When I first started at this job, friends would jump at the chance to go out, have a few beers and hit on chicks. I first realized I was getting older when my friends started saying "I wanna see that band, but I haven't seen my wife all week so I'm staying in." Then it was "I saw that band on VH1 once, but gotta take care of the baby; can't do it, dude." Now it's "Never heard of them...but when the Who come around, gimmie a call." These are the same people who bitch that there's no good music being made anymore. There really IS, you just have to turn off your radio (not MTV; they don't play music), get on the net and find it. When you find a good new band that you can enjoy for years to come, it's as sweet as finding a Wall Ball with instructions in the wild.

That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me! I actually had to go waaay out of my way to go down to Soho on my commute in from the suburbs to work. It was fun though, 'cause I'd never been there before. As for my Waterworld shot, I was going to actually put the cart in a sealed plastic bag with a fishing weight behind the cart, and sink it to the bottom of my aquarium, but I chickened out. I have an alternate shot of it in the baggie behind the tank so that it almost looks like it's in the tank, but I chose the one I submitted because it has better composition.

That's them--nice work.

I'm pretty sure they're in their late 30s-early 40s, actually. They were around for something like 10 years before they broke in 1993.

Here's the bio at allmusic.com by David Cornelius The Ataris have produced three full-length recordings of relatively cookie-cutter pop-punk. Taking more influence from mainstream alternative acts than the punk artists they tour with, the Ataris were discovered by Vandals founder Joe Escalante in early 1997, after songwriter Kris Roe met him at a Vandals concert. Impressed by the his demo tape, Escalante asked Roe to put together a full band and record for his label, Kung-Fu Records. Roe picked up and moved to California in search of bandmates, and eventually added guitarist Marco Peña, bassist Mike Davenport, and former Lagwagon drummer Derrick Plourde. Plourde was later replaced by new drummer Chris Knapp. The newly-formed Ataris made their first record Anywhere but Here for Kung-Fu Records, and soon came to the notice of Fat Wreck Chords owner Fat Mike. Realizing the opportunity to move to a stronger, better-grounded label, the Ataris willingly signed to Fat Wreck. They quickly issued an EP, Look Forward to Failure, produced by several members of the Descendants. Early in 1999, the band released their second full-length album, Blue Skies, Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits. Since the album's release, they toured with such popular acts as MxPx, Blink 182, and Homegrown before issuing Let It Burn in 2000.

I just got the press kit for the new CD by the Offspring in my office and low and behold--in their 8x10 promo pic, there's Dexter Holland sporting an Atari fuji shirt, front and center. Either we're cool and corporate punk, or the Offspring is old. I imagine Joeybastard would have a comment on this...

I'm bumping this because I updated the main listing to better describe what's for sale. -
I sent color photocopies in to Atari Connection back in the day, and they eventually posted them on their site; I don't know if they're still on it. The issue they ran in was something like 58 or 59, I think.

After nearly 10 years of collecting Atari, I FINALLY got a boxed 2600! I've seen them from time to time, and usually they were in an antique toy store or something, always priced waaaay too high. Another time, I got one at a garage sale, and two hours later as a gesture of good will (which I came to regret), gave it to a friend who'd been coveting my Atari. A few years later, I spotted one in the trash of a neighbor when I first moved into my town but couldn't garbage pick it without the whole neighborhood watching as to what 'that new guy' was doing, so I had to let it go. But NOW, finally, I have one--got it from an NYU student for $15 at lunchtime, the serial numbers match and it came with the original boxed Combat and a boxed Missle Command. The glue had dried out so that the lengthwise innerflap was half apart, making it all look in much worse shape than it was. With a glue stick, packing tape judiciously applied (inside, not outside!) and some rubber bands to help it all keep its shape until the glue dries, it looks fairly spiffy. All my co-workers keep walking by, spotting it, and asking 'wow, how much did you pay for that?' They keep guessing much higher prices, so I guess they're the people who those expensive boxed machines are aimed at! Boy, I hope the darn 2600 works!

Boy, the chatter on this died down quick. Me, I wanna see some photos...

In the U.S., the cops will take the bag from you, too, as evidence if you report it, so you wind up with *nothing.* I guess you have to decide if the 51 pounds are worth risking to send it back to him. If you do mail it back, make sure to get "delivery confirmation" on it so that he can't say he didn't get it!

As I recall, Atari made a special version of Fireworld that was used for the big championship contest that they held, where all the competitors had to play it and the first one to beat it, won. Does anyone know if the competitors got to keep the special version of the game? The reason that I ask is because ages ago, I found someone's photos of the event with a stash of games at a junk shop; it was a few years ago now, but it occurs to me that I *might* have picked up my copy of Firworld from that pile of games, and so it *might* have been whatever version was used for the contest. I probably *didn't* get it that day, but the thought occurred to me on the way to work and I figured if anyone would know about the competition version of Fireworld, it's y'all. Anyone know?

Bid early, bid often! -
Don't worry--they're rust stains from the local water! We can't get them out. Believe me, we've tried.
-
Yeah, I have a bunch of ideas--here's my first one...
-
People worry way too much about having perfect feedback. Look, if you won something from someone who had a few hundred feedbacks and they had, say 4 negs, would you really worry that they'd screw you? No, of course not. Once you get a fair number of positive feedbacks, it just makes the people who leave negs look like cranks. Don't sweat it--lay the neg on this guy thick and heavy--sounds like he deserves it.

I think most any of us would have.

I hope so--it's been pretty quiet on them; not a lot of bidding at all. -
man ppl are going crazy for those atari games on your TV
Dolt replied to nashnooga's topic in Atari 2600
I am pretty certain that my wife got me one of these for Christmas, as she decided to wrap my presents early so that we'd have something under the tree and there's something similar to the shape of the Atari 10-in-1 there. I'd have rather gotten the Namco TV Games unit with the versions of Pac-Man, Galaxian, etc., but it's very sweet of her all the same. She complained a few times over the last month or so that she wanted to get me something Atari-related but didn't know what I had or wanted. I could give her my list that I carry in my wallet, but since I have over 350 different games at this point, I wouldn't really want her shopping for something I don't have because most of that stuff is expensive and I wouldn't want her making that level of purchase without me looking over her shoulder to explain whether it's a good price, the condition's OK, etc. How do you guys deal with people wanting to get you Atari stuff? -
LOL--that's a great idea! By that token, we should all just grab a few of our extra games and jam an ornament hanger into the ROM hole. Finally, a good use for all those Pac-Mans and Combats (but not for ETs--f*ck ET). (I guess if people don't have cool games to spare, they could always take a look at a few of my auctions)

Well, I'm glad that's cleared up. I thought he was p-ssed at me for commenting that it's a lousy buy without the matt (IMHO).
-
I wouldn't buy these without the mat, so who cares?

Is Cosmic Corridor rare in the box?
