The suggestion wasn't so much about capturing a by-gone era as it was saving old school TV sets from the landfill. A sports ticker for instance, could turn a hole-in-the-wall dive into a "sports bar" for a minimal investment.

Something that could "repurpose" an old tube TV with updated content, weather, stocks, sports scores etc. that would work similar to Gameline with menus to select content but using the Ethernet connection. use the user interface (joysticks, or other controllers) and the capability to connect directly with a TV from the 2600 and add it to the internet connectivity and widget support of the Y-Box

That "Edtris" was one of the ones that I saw. Is that legit? or knockoff? Found a few more for $20 each. Prehistoric Times, Power Off!, Bomb On Pixel City, Merlins Walls, Video Time Machine, & Pesco Legit? Knockoff?

The figure that seemed to be "median" was around $50 for a nicely packaged homebrew title and maybe the developer might break even. So presumably $20-$25 homebrews on ebay are pirate/knockoff ? I might be an abrasive smartass, but I am not the kind of a$$h0le that would take money from hombrew developers! jus' sayin'

I asked this in that other thread, thought it deserved its own thread. I don't consider this an "idea peddle" because I have no doubt that some one has already thought of it. This is the "Ybox" I assume that since it is a couple years old, everyone here has long since seen this: This article compares it to "an Atari 2600-era Konfabulator" Why not go 1 step further and design and program it to actually plug in and work with the most popular/common video game of all time? Since the 2600 will plug in to an old school TV, it could keep some of those TV out of the landfills for a few more years, and do some really cool new tricks! LOL Just exaggerating for dramatic effect, seriously... sorry about that, I stuck my keyboard in my mouth, won't happen again. Not in here at least, still haven't pissed anyone off in the collectors forums, so that is kinda like a ticking timebomb. The idea I was most in love with was the "Night Driver" hack, and in retrospect I didn't even post it in the correct forum. So lets start over! Hi, I'm a big fan of your work!

At the risk of being bludgeoned, I signed up for AA in part to beg someone to hack "Night Driver" to make it more like "Datsun 280 ZZZAP" using the driving controller (Instead of paddles) in one port and the joystick controller in the second to shift gears. Add the spedometer at the bottom, and maybe spruce up the tress etc on the side of the road. Anything I can do to persuaded a programmer/hacker to do this??

The was a front end "Aladdin" that you could use offine, the UL/DL all of your msgs in just a few min, there was another one that would stop you from going on in "Prime Time" the use of both of those kept my monthly bills in single digits!

I do get it now, and outside of the bubble it looked completely different. Again, I didn't expect anyone to reply fora few days, and I got responses a few min after that, not quite the warm fuzzy response I was expecting a couple days later. Lesson learned! The guy who made the Zombie movie probably had a lot more money to throw at it than me (making even a little indy flick is well in to 6 digits) and I don't think that his project got much more traction than mine. Again, I was on the outside looking in, and things looked very different, I now see things up close and personal and realize the scope of the undertaking. I still think that collaborative projects could work, but not in the manner that I (and obviously hundreds of others) envisioned.

Back to the followup to the original question: Who developed the hacks & homebrews included on the Flashback II system? Did they receive monetary compensation or just bragging rights?

I am sure that this has occurred to others, so I won't take any credit for the idea, but when the "Y Box" debuted at the Yahoo Hackers Conference it was described as "an Atari 2600-era Konfabulator" by Endgadget. Why not go a step further, and make a YBox FOR the Atari 2600? Something that works similar to how the Gameline boxes did. The Atari could interface with the user (with the controllers) and directly to the television. In theory this would take some of the heavy lifting chores off of the YBox and give it more interactivity with the user (menus etc) I wouldn't even call this a "Idea Peddle" because, again, I am sure that this idea has already occurred to someone with the skills to make it a reality. Anyone done any R&D in this area?

What about hardware? Who makes those cool gadgets for the XL/XE? Is my dream of a "conversion kit" to transform a dead 4 switcher into a Iphone dock/charger unrealistic?

See Loon, we think a lot alike, whether you are willing to admit it or not! those are the very reasons that I have for wanting to create, or "commission" a homebrew. The very fact that there is a company that makes homebrews proves that there is a larger "vertical retro market" then I ever imagined. I may have come blasting into the forum like a bull in a china shop, but I did learn a lot in just the few hours I have been on here. (not the least of which was how not to step on a programmers ego LOL) Hopefully in the next few days, I'll either learn some of the finer points of AA Forum "netticate" , or another newbie will come into the forum greener than me and deflect the wrath of the regulars To be honest, I expected my post to sit unanswered for a few weeks before someone even bothered to read it the fact that it got so much traction so fast was actually encouraging, even if it was other users telling me that I was going about it all wrong.
