  1. I agree, the new systems look cool but to me, they're not nearly as much fun. I like a game that I can plug in and figure out how to play without having to read a novel and learn 1700 button combinations. I also have an NES and an SNES and have been much happier since I got joysticks to play them with. Those little Nintendo controllers just didn't work for me. Must be an age-related thing......
  2. Oooh, a Ms. Activision title!! Thank God, I finally have something to aspire to.....
  3. Like I said in a previous post, don't get rid of that 2600....you may find more 2600 games than you think that won't work on the 7800. In my experience, the Activision ones have given me the biggest problem. I love my 7800, though, don't get me wrong. I've been getting in more games than I have time to play so I haven't even found the full range of its abilities yet! Laura
  4. Last night, I noticed that I had one of the standard Activision copies of Freeway but instead of the cars being in black and white like in the AA cart scan, they're in color. I seem to have several Freeways but this is the only one that is like this (the others match the cart scan). Is this unusual??rare????worth a million dollars???? Hey, it's Friday and I can dream....
  5. Here's a good Friday thread...what's the worst game for the 2600? My vote would go for Outlaw. I just hope that this cart came free in a package of cereal (bran would be appropriate) and that kids didn't spend their hard-earned money on it........
  6. God, I loved Leisure Suit Larry! I remember the day I finally won.....ah, those were the days.....
  7. I went to radioshack and paid a ridiculous $16 for a cord. They're actually cheaper on e-bay through some of the stores.
  8. I agree, if you're in a big city, hunting is for the most part a lost cause. I have had a bit of luck in small towns but it is hit and miss and probably isn't worth the time. I've done some e-baying and have found some online retailers as well. Also, try half.com, I've been surprised at some of my finds there. I have also asked friends and even run an ad in my neighborhood newspaper with a bit of luck (but not much). I would love to trade but agree that you have to have a rather large collection to have games that people want to trade for available......
  9. For me, it's most any Activision shooting game. Megamania has always been a favorite and I'm quite intrigued by Plaque Attack. Okay I also like Keystone Kapers.....can't quite figure out how the hell I was addicted to Stampede as a kid though. I'm just getting into HERO but I like that so far. I'm getting really tired of my job getting in the way of my gaming time though.......
  10. I have mine hooked up to a 48" Sony. I had it hooked up to a 12" or so RCA with the "clicky knob" for the full effect (I also bought a bean bag to sit in while I played) but rapidly found that as old age sets in and your eyesight deteriorates, bigger is truly better.....I posted this question on the 7800 board but didn't get any answers so I'll post it here. I have my Atari run directly into the cable jack of my TV (no switchbox) but can get no sound. I intentionally did not run it through my surround sound because I wanted the option of listening to the satellite 70's station through that and planned to just cut up the TV volume if I wanted to hear the Atari but I can't get any sound. Does the box serve some sound-decoding purpose? Thanks!

    PAL or not

Thanks guys! I found a couple of carts that I wanted on e-bay but they're in England so I think I'll just pass as they're probably PAL.

    PAL or not

How can you tell if a game (in the box) is PAL or NTSC? How about if it is the cartridge alone? Thanks
  13. Please PM with me to give me your price (including shipping). Thanks, Laura
  14. Knock on something, my 7800 has been okay so far but I've only had it a couple of months. I'll probably get home tonight and find it melted into the carpet......
  15. When I started reacquiring Ataris, I got a 7800 and a 2600. I figured that I would keep the 7800 and give my sister the 2600 as a gift. I'm sure glad that I kept the 2600 as well because I am finding quite a number of Activision cartridges that absolutely do not work on the 7800. So far, I can get nothing out of H.E.R.O., Dolphin or Decathalon. Okay maybe the two Ds are no big deal but H.E.R.O. seems like a fun game. How they could advertise the 7800 as able to play all 2600 carts is beyond me......anyway, I'll get off my "just justifying the money I'm spending on this hobby" soapbox. Like Dave Barry said, "There's a fine line between hobby and mental illness".
  16. Selling it, hell, I gave mine to Goodwill.......yes, I do truly regret it. I had my 2600 all through college and when I graduated and was going through my "I can't wait to be an adult" stage, I dropped it, all the games, manuals, case, etc. off at Goodwill. What was I thinking I now ask myself......at least as an adult, you have better access to the money to buy stuff. Also, my house can look like a video game store exploded all over it and the cat doesn't say a thing......

  19. Do you work on these systems? I have the sears version and the games come up on the screen but when I press a button on the controller to start, nothing happens.....any advice? Thanks
  20. When I first got my 7800 ( a couple of months ago), I hooked it up to a small, old TV via the usual "slide/switch" box and the connectors that are held down with screws and I had the game sound coming through the TV when I played. I have since hooked it up to my newer TV with one of the "boxless" connectors that just essentially changes the connector type (ie female on one end to accept the Atari input, male on the other to screw in like a cable line). I can now get no Atari sound out of my TV. My next move is to conduct a series of experiments with/without the box as its necessity is all that I can figure but I thought I'd ask, is this something common? If anyone knew the answer, I knew that it would be you guys....... Thanks!
  21. Years ago, I bought the cd of Activision games for the computer as I remembered them as being my favorites from my Atari days. Although they played fairly well, it just wasn't the same. As I now have an Atari again (thank god), I can play any the "real way" that I can get my hands on. One of the GBA games that I played (very briefly might I add) was Namco museum but everything was too small. Maybe I'm just too old.....anyway, on the flipside, it would be nice to be able to play some of the games that I've only heard about because they are rare carts.
  22. I don't yet have Pitfall II so I only have a shot at winning Pitfall but if you win, does something cool happen or do you just get the maximum score?
  23. As much as I like to play the same game until I either die of old age or go senile, I like that satisfaction that comes with completing or winning a game. I haven't found many games so far that you can win so I thought that I'd ask......other than Adventure (which I know that I won on all levels in the 6th grade or so) and James Bond which I just got, what other games can you win? Thanks, Laura
  24. I bought an Intellivision and it boots up (i.e. I get the title screen on the TV) but nothing happens when I try to start the game using the controller. I tried both of the controllers and nada. Any suggestions???? I'm guessing that the controllers don't work but I have no way to tell....... Thanks, Laura
  25. Okay, the title of this post is actually the question.....
