Fireworks Factory - Official Ordering Thread
LoTonah replied to scalpel's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
If it isn't too late, can you fix the word "following" on the game select screen? Sorry for pointing this out, I'm not normally that guy who picks apart spelling, but when it comes to software I do. -
CollectorVision Phoenix Kickstarter is now live!
LoTonah replied to Bmack36's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
That's awesome news! I'm just hoping I can put together a spare $200 before the kickstarter ends. I need this in my life! I was super-excited about this before the Atari news, but its just got a lot better. -
I liked it so much, I subscribed! Now don't screw it up

It has been brought to my attention that I set the record straight on my experience with Curt on a different post, but forgot about this one. Oops, I don't like leaving things like that, so... fixed! "A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... Okay, it was nine years ago. I ordered a USB joystick conversion kit from Legacy Engineering. Curt got sick. I got a divorce and moved cities. Changed email accounts. My computer died and I did a file recovery onto a new one. Took awhile to find my electronic receipts. Blah blah blah. It didn't stop me from grumbling publicly about it (and him) a few times over the years in this forum. About a month ago, I said something snarky...not proud of it, but at least it got Curt and I talking via PM. Today I got a package in the mail...not the conversion kit (because after so long I doubt he has them anymore), but a brand new USB Atari stick. Works great! I'm a happy boy again. So, sorry I was a dick about it Curt. You came through for me, so I thank you." Link to the post: https://atariage.com/forums/topic/276336-a-public-apology-to-curt-vendel/

As a Coleco Adam owner as well, I've spent oodles of time in the Coleco forum here on AtariAge. HDTV1080P posts there--a LOT. I've come to think that he's definitely on the autism spectrum. He does the same types of posts there. Pretty oblivious to the sarcasm and sometimes outright hatred that is directed at him. He seems like a nice guy, I just don't think he can help his obsessive ramblings.

This thing is pretty cool. Apple IIe and IBM PC in one!
LoTonah replied to 82-T/A's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
By far my favorite computer back in the day for this type of thing is.... the Atari ST!! Yep, Mac compatibility with first the Magic Sac, then the Spectre, and finally the Spectre GCR. IBM compatibility with the PC-Ditto software, then the various IBM compatible hardware cards that came later. Atari 8-bit emulation. CP/M emulation. C64 emulation (which was crude, but fun). I thought I saw an Apple // emulator, too but I could be mistaken. Point is, that box was extremely flexible and super fun! I could (and did) spend time doing Hypercard, then a reboot and I was programming in Turbo Pascal, then a reboot and I was doing desktop publishing in PageStream, then another reboot and I would finish the day playing Empire or Simcity on the ST side, and finally downloading adult .GIF pics onto my massive 20Mb hard drive. The ST was really my dream machine for a long, long time. -

Why are you doing all this work on your birthday, Milli? BTW, Happy Birthday!! -
ColEm Emulator for Windows, Android, and Linux
LoTonah replied to GarageResearch's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
The only issues I have running it are between my brain and my fingers. Loving it! -
"Maybe in the future I might connect an 80 column terminal to my ADAM computer. Does anyone make a serial to HDMI hardware based terminal emulator? I would hate to have to purchase an old used 80’s black and white 80-column terminal when it should be possible for an external hardware device to be able to emulate an 80 column terminal and output the signal to a modern day HDMI LCD flat panel computer monitor." Have you looked into using a Raspberry Pi as a terminal emulator? An RPi Zero W should do the trick.

ColEm Emulator for Windows, Android, and Linux
LoTonah replied to GarageResearch's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Sweet! Just purchased it now. Thank you for your hard work! -
Yeah, I got a tracking number from Syzygy back in the day (for a joystick PCB that was never shipped). Thought it was pretty odd that there was a number. I don't believe it said which courier that tracking number was for, so maybe it was just an internal number. Curt eventually came through for me so I'm not really bitching, just thought the whole thing was odd.

Why not do what I do? Once I wire something up that has the potential to shock someone, I just put a big old glob of hot glue over the exposed wiring. Just be careful when globbing onto a PCB as it can corrode in some cases (Google it if you have any questions). The glue is non-conductive and can handle the heat that 110v can generate.

So instead of buying a new laser printer, go to eBay and find yourself an older HP Laserjet with a parallel port. Or one of the other brands you mentioned. Honestly, I don't know why you're so upset at this technological march that has been occurring since USB was introduced 20 years ago. It was easier to use, and cheaper than parallel, so of course it was going to take over eventually.

ColecoVision & ADAM Computer Scans Repository
LoTonah replied to NIAD's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
I love seeing these. I've never seen them before, I got most of my gaming information from Electronic Fun with Computers and Games magazine and Electronic Games magazine back in the day. -
Just saw a Youtube video for this, thought it looked pretty awesome. Since it can run Sega Master System games, I see no reason that a ColecoVision emulator couldn't be implemented. Finally, a cheap portable ColecoVision! I think he's objecting to the homosexual themes in the images, and thinks it is just filth. I'm not gay in the least, but geez I've got better things to worry about...like racists, and homophobes. Feels like we're going back in time, now we're approaching the 50's.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I've googled Berlin Wall art and nothing there is offensive to me. I also don't know the historical significance of any of it. But I also know that in real life, I have never seen any art that has offended me. I may not like a lot of it, but offended? No. Mind letting us know which picture bothers you and why? After all, you did bring it up.

I'd love a poster. Not in the position to get one at the moment. Someday, though.

Ugh. So many posts, not enough listening. Making a system like this isn't a bag of parts that you throw together and get a computer out of, you have to figure out how to make them work together. And be compatible with as much software as possible. Not easy, even with a software base as small as the ADAM's is. I'm excited for the Collectorvision console. But don't expect it to give you backrubs and drive your car for you. Geez.

Who uses an Adam just to play regular CV Games?
LoTonah replied to Hannacek's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
I do. I had a stand alone colecovision as well. A co-worker said his wife was really into it back in the day and was looking for a Christmas present for her. I made it look awesome, tested everything with a multimeter to make sure voltages were good, and refurbished the controllers. Sold it to him for $50. About a month later he threw me under the bus at work for something that wasn't my fault at all. 'Cause that's what friends to, right? Quit that job, haven't talked to him since, even though he tries to chat on Facebook from time to time. Seriously, screw that guy. So now I just use my ADAM and emulators to play. -
