I like how it looks, I would only change the blue LED to red or orange I away thought the mini sized Atari Flash Backs looked goofy. I already have plenty 2600s that look like 2600s. I think there is a market for people that just want to plug something in to their modern TV and it works. Forrest

Sears Heavy Sixer Before and after Pictures
forrestsmith replied to forrestsmith's topic in Atari 2600
Thanks guys, it was fun project. I agree the Sears unit is the best looking. Forrest -
Before After Got this a few years ago and decided this winter it was time to clean it up and get it working right. It did technically work but not very good and the switches were extremely stiff. I started with taking the switches apart and cleaning and lubing them. After that I polished them with 0000 steel wool and metal polish and put on new foam dust shields. I then cleaned the cartridge port and replaced the caps and voltage regulator with one of Mojoatomics refresh kits. The RF cable was cut so I decide to replace it with a piece of rg6 coax, at anytime I can replace it with a factory cable. The out side was filthy, it was covered in nicotine, fuzz and cat hair Cleaned it and did a touch up on some of the worn paint areas. It now works and looks great, It also matches my Burl Walnut Sony Trinitron very good. I am really amazed how well the rf picture can look Forrest

Atari Air Raid by Men-A-Vision - Recent Pick Up
forrestsmith replied to aservantes's topic in Atari 2600
Don't worry about worth, just keep it in your collection. Or I Am sure you know how the game works, you put it on a auction site with no reserve and that's what's it worth. I am sure you will make more than you paid for it. -
yea.... that's the problem with mine. After I did it I realized that if I ever get the voice its in the wrong spot!

I found five volts on the board like you did, but I did drill a hole in the case. Forrest

Grips I did the one below and I thought it looked good / great on my CRT Television, not sure how it would look on a modern TV. If using a CRT I really don't think anything would be gained by doing something more complicated. Forrest http://imgur.com/gallery/Hwaa4

Hello Bought this local along with a few other Atari items. Seems to be a pirated Donkey Kong and EPROM cart? I really don't see any different or odd Atari items in my area so for me its a pretty interesting find for my collection. Some of the back story is I bought it from an older gentleman (I am 43) who used to own a local drug store. He said when video games were "big" the store sold some video game items. He has been cleaning out the garage and said this is part of the stores inventory. Guess that's were I get confused, does not seem like something a drug store would sell or rent? Also wanted to know what the jumpers might be for? Also thought it was interesting that it said 32K? When I play it seems to be your standard Coleco Donkey Kong. Thanks for you feedback. Forrest

I have a around a 2005 Toshiba 13 inch CRT flat screen. It has all the inputs including S video, Picture looks amazing with my S video 2600. The other nice thing about this model is that I seem to see them very often at the local thrift stores. It may not be the best but it does look very good and I am sure you could find one. I have yet to run into a Trinitron yet. Forrest

S-Video + Flat Screen CRT, question about picture
forrestsmith replied to Bixler's topic in Atari 2600
Hello I have the exact same Toshiba 13 CRT and a 4 switch 2600 S video output and mine does not do that at all. Its amazing how good the picture looks on mine. I have thought about trying to find a Sony Trinitron or something but I cant see how the picture could look much better. Forrest -
Super Video Arcade Straight cords so you can sit more than two feet away from the thing. Controller ports so you can experiment with different controllers or Joy stick type add on (Stickler) And not to mention it looks the best with its classy Tan and Burl Walnut combo with the Gold accents. The controller cords and ports must have been an issue with somebody at Sears or they would have not changed them for the better. Forrest

Atari-themed shell for converted NES controller
forrestsmith replied to MaximRecoil's topic in Atari 2600
You guys should hook up http://atariage.com/forums/topic/244661-intrest-check-aftermarket-nes-controller-modded-to-atari-with-rapid-fire/?do=findComment&comment=3346606 -
Guess that's what I meant. Different mods because the Intellivision are different. Forrest
-
Yea that's a similar look to my title screen. I took it out last and put the S V A back together. I might mess with again if I find parts Intellivision to experiment on. It does seem to be a case of "one size fits some" There is so many different versions of the AV mods. Some work great on some and the same mod may not work at all on another. If it looked as good as the RF I would have left it because the sound is definitely better. Forrest
-
That's the thing. what I describe is when I have it hooked up to my 13 inch Toshiba CRT that I play most my games on. When I hook it up to a modern flat screen it gets even worse . I will take a look at my install again and make sure I did not miss something. Forrest

Intellivision First Impressions 2015
forrestsmith replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I just did a AV mod yesterday and I am going to take it out, they really seem to be hit or miss for the Intellivision if they work well or not. You said you wanted Miss Pac Man, I would get Pac Man. You can find them for a reasonable price and I think its on of the best versions going. If you like Space Shooters I would look for a copy of Beamerider it is very good. Get a copy of Demon Attack also it is good and very common and cheap to find. What are the Joy Stick adapters you said you got with the systems? Forrest -
I Never Get to Play (Atari 2600 Commercial From 1979)
forrestsmith replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
I think he was the replacement for Ennis in the Dukes of Hazard or he might have been in BJ and the Bear a few times. Forrest -
Read a lot about the different AV modifications so I knew they might be hit or miss but decided to try this one after reading some positives about it. Installing it was straightforward, very easy compared to Atari 2600 S video mod I did. looks very well made but the picture looks worse than the RF. Colors are over saturated and solid back grounds look mottled or crawling or blotchy and the image is not near as sharp looking as the RF, I do not see anything I would call ghosting though. A positive is the sound is the sound is better than RF. Tried the color adjustment on the board and that does not help (It did make my RF picture look even a little better ) Its real easy to see the difference when you have the Av and RF hooked up at the same time and you just have switch between video and channel three. Anything easy I could try before I take it out ? Read some about people taking the RF unit out, but I am not doing that. Thanks Forrest
