Try experimenting with 2k to 5k pots before and after the Amp chip, also try some small value capacitors with the signal and see what affect You get. I tried caps and resistors inline and connected to ground. I could get a very good s-video image, but the constant diagonal line interference is annoying, and most noticeable on Blue for some reason.

That certainly brings back memories. I used to go to an Amiga software piracy gathering, officialy known as Amiga computer enthusists club, back in the early 90's. used to take the computer and 14inch tv and spare floppy drive armed with boxes of disks. Those were the days for sure. I'm not really sure though that what worked for the Amiga would translate well to the TI99/4a. I think the lack of replies on this topic confirms those suspicions. I still have the Amiga of course, and despite numerous requests from others at home to throw it out, I never could, and am really glad I didn't.

Good luck getting that module creator to work. I got it working with the Parsec EA/5 files, but it didn't like hardly any others I threw at it. You seem to get a 32k file always, irrespective of the Original, except where the EA/5 files are even larger when combined, and in that case You probably will get errors. If You get it working nicely, please enlighten myself and others on how.

That's really cool. I just watched that scene, He appears to be dimming the lights (to the tune of True by Spandau Ballet) by punching in some keystrokes on the TI wirelessly. I bet 99.99% of people watching that have no clue whatsoever what that is.

I'm planning on doing some Youtube vids of other TI games, don't expect anything too fancy though. BTW, the final run in the video is the 16.50, that was the one I used the competition pro joystick. I used a standard Atari joytick for the others. Those Epiphan products are expensive, but likely very good nonetheless. You may be better with something like the Avermedia Livegamer portable, then edit on the PC. http://gamerzone.avermedia.com/game_capture/live_gamer_portable Also get an adaptor like I have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-VGA2HDMI-1080P-VGA-to-HDMI-HDTV-Video-Converter-Box-Adapter-For-PC-DVD-/391089358015?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b0ebe04bf

Beat this suckers!! Well at least I now know how the "Competition Pro" joystick got its name. I used this as a test of my new Avermedia C985e Lite capture card. I outputted the VGA signal of the F18a into a cheapo VGA to HDMI converter, then straight into the capture card and captured the footage pretty much lag free, quite impressed overall.

You haven't mentioned anything about Your system configuration. You need 32k memory expansion for the carts to work, also if You have a nanoPEB make sure You don't have a disk in dsk1 that autostarts with extended basic, although that is more likely to cause problems with the extended basic cart in use. Other than that please post some pics of the cart pcb, it may help.

The 9929A and 9928A ouput Component, which is not the same as RGB unfortunately. I have one of those GBS8220 converters that I was going to have a go at after I mod a PAL or NTSC 9928/9929 chip into one of my spare TI's. They are very cheap from China, I have attached the PDF for anyone interested. I tried it with my Amiga 500, but the result was no better than the S-video modded A520 modulator. BTW that has the best quality s-video output of any of my computers, so it would have to be near perfect to better it. GBS-8220_CGA_to_VGA_HD-Converter.pdf

It must be the 100m dash for veterans with times like those.

That's beautiful!, what is it? That photo is a bit small too.

The 9918A video chip only outputs composite, and that is as good as You are going to get from a standard TI. Myself and others have tried to get a working component video output from either a 9928A or 9929A (PAL) chip with minor circuit modifications, but generally it doesn't work. I think it has something to do with the fact that the TI outputs 480p not 480i, and most tv's don't understand the input. To get S-video you would have to build or buy a converter that splits the composite into luma/chroma, cleans the signal, then outputs that as s-video. I doubt that would result in a satisfactory quality. IMHO You are better to just bite the bullet and get an F18A, or just put up with the composite until You can afford one.

The Ginger or Maryann question as related to the TI :)
Imperious replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
The 2 American shows that have been on TV almost constantly over the Years here would have to be Mash and Get Smart, but Gilligans Island wouldn't be too far behind. Getting back to the point though, and I do understand this poll as far as the Colours of the TI99/4a go, but at the same time it is also a contradiction. In Gilligans Island Ginger was the overdone Tarted up character, but the Beige Console is plain. Maryann is the plainer, Sweet Girl next door type, which isn't the Black/Silver Console. I prefer the look of the Black/silver unit, but owned a Beige one back in the day, and now have a ratty Black/Silver console and 2 good Beige ones, one is perfect. The beige consoles have worn better overall, except where Yellowing has occurred. -
How To: Replace the Obsolete Cassette Port with a VGA Connector
Imperious replied to wyerd's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I knew I should have patented that design Thanks for putting up the "How-to", something I failed to do. I actually used a smaller drill bit first as I wasn't sure how brittle the plastic might be, also I had to file the hex screws down to fit the VGA cable in, due to the VGA connector being recessed into the case a bit. Mine is a beige case, so maybe some minor differences there. -
ftp://ftp.whtech.com/Cassettes/ I would also suggest trying more capable software, like Audacity, which is free. I cannot test with mine as I removed the Cassette port and put the F18a VGA connector there.

After thinking about this a bit, I don't think You can do anything about this. The seller has probably had goods broken or stolen on their way overseas before, and irrespective of whether He is shipping to the USA or not, once He is aware that his stuff is heading overseas, He won't take the risk as Ebay seems to make the seller refund if You don't get the goods or they are broken, then He has to chase the shipping company for a refund. Please correct me if I am wrong about that. You could try logging into Ebay USA instead of EBay Germany to make the purchase and set the delivery address as one of Your friends places, not a US international shipping company. I have had mostly good luck with purchases from USA, just one Vader model Atari 2600 had a broken case, but it was such a clean break I glued it and You cannot even tell without a magnifying glass. The seller didn't pack it well enough which I mentioned in my comments but not worth complaining about in this case.

Games you do NOT want to see ported over to the TI-99/4A!
Imperious replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I stand corrected Sir. I was 1/2 right though. I didn't really go into enough detail with my comments obviously, but I agree with all everyone else has said here. -

Imperious replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
When I said "punching above it's weight", I mean't going too far and ending up with something that is a huge let down. On the Amiga 500, Elite 2 and Wing Commander come to mind there. Elite 2 was an excellent game, but only on a system with a CPU Accelerator, it was an unplayable jerk fest on the A500. Wing Commander the same. Doom on my Vic-20 is interesting as a tech demo, but not really any fun as a game. 8086 was the 16 bit cpu, 8088 8 bit. Probably 286 was where the PC started to get interesting for games, unfortunately most had the pc speaker only for Audio, which is horrible. PC's were too expensive anyway. As far as computers go for 16 bit it was mostly the Amiga 500 and Atari ST that dominated, a bit later 16 bit consoles like the Sega Megadrive and Snes before the Playstation came along which was 32 bit. Pushing the TI to limits above what any thought possible and excelling in that is what it is all about, and that is what we have been seeing here, and may it continue. -

Imperious replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
IMHO there is nothing worse than seeing some 16bit games downported to 8bit systems. Yes I realise the TI has a 16bit cpu, but it's capabilities are realistically 8bit. A good example of how horrible this is, is Street fighter 2 on the C64. The TI should stick to what it does best, and not punch too far above it's weight. -
Games with that level of graphics simplicity put the TI on par with the VIC-20, however it's more justifiable on the VIC-20 with it's standard 3.5k RAM. Even so, with more modern tools available, what has been done with both systems recently is pretty amazing.

That explains it a lot better thanks. I still don't get why the cart doesn't do that, but as already said, it's fixed and that's all that matters. It's interesting as I used a similar principle to figure out exactly what Ram chips were faulty in a Commodore Plus/4. The boot screen had some incorrect characters on screen where there should have been spaces, and from working out how far from space the character was in the character map, I replaced the dodgy chips only. I think 3 of the 8 were faulty, but it was quite a fascinating repair job.
-
Sorry about the delay in testing Your fix, timezone differences mean I was sleeping. I just tried it in Classic99, no problems noticed. It's interesting how this may have occured though, as neither the disk version I uploaded nor the cart does that, so it's obviously not something the Author of the game did. Maybe it was a bug in an earlier disk version and that's somehow what got used here. It's fixed anyhow, so that's all that matters really, and of course a big thankyou.
-
There must be something else causing it then. I re-downloaded the Gamecart4 file again and ran it in Classic99, same thing, e's appearing. The photo I posted was from the real thing. I suggest someone else verifies this as I expect every Gamecart 4 Qbert behaves this way. If it's not fixable it isn't a big deal, I will just run the version on the disk file.
-
No it doesn't, disk image attached. I didn't try this on real iron, just classic99, but have run it on the real thing in the past and not noticed any issues. Image attached, loads with XB. Modules Disk 01 (1989)(-)req. PHM 3026USGROP315B.dsk

F18A programming, info, and resources
Imperious replied to matthew180's topic in TI-99/4A Development
That Bombjack demo has arcade quality graphics from my TI99/4a!!. Considering that and the fact that somehow You got SID quality sound coming from my TI in the Light Year demo that I loaded up recently, the future looks very bright indeed. If this continues the old TI will be getting lots more attention from the retro gaming community. I wonder if Colecovision and MSX users are doing anything with the F18a? -
I've so far converted 4 Jon Guidry boards into 512k Gamecarts, just 2 to go now. Whilst testing Gamecart 4 I noticed a problem with Qbert, whenever He jumps on the disc to get back up to the top step there a trail of "e"'s that stay on the screen, same goes when testing in Classic99.
