  1. It just occurred to me that there are many "echoes" of the Odyssey² in the classes I'm teaching this semester. My embedded systems class is based on the 8051 MCU family (the successor of the O²'s 8048), and one of the projects for my programming classes will be a reimplementation of "Crypto-Logic", one of the O²'s pack-in games.

      I always meant to read the 8048 data sheets. My life began with 6502 and then x86.

      The 8048 is certainly a unique beast.

      It's an interesting little microcontroller. Among many other things, it was used as the onboard controller in IBM's original Model M keyboards; I think my Unicomp Model Ms still use the 8048, at least in the PS/2 versions.
