  1. I've been slowly getting back into the Atari 5200, and I'm newly impressed by the later Activision titles (Zenji, Zone Ranger, Pitfall II, Dreadnaught Factor, Beamrider, etc). All are solid games, and they make me wish that Activision made more of them.

      Same here! Cool that Pitfall II has an extra level not found anywhere else!

      Yes! David Crane's story about that is interesting: the C64 programmer wrote his port from scratch, but the A8/5200 version was ported by Mike Lorenzen based on Crane's original 2600 code. This saved Lorenzen enough development time to add the extra level.

      It appears Activision USA only made about a half dozen more games for the Atari 8-bit computers, of which some require keyboard or otherwise might be too complex for the 5200.

       

      There is another half dozen games attributed to Activision UK, whether it means they were independent from the US section. As the 5200 never was introduced in PAL version, it had been a long shot to have the UK division make games for it.
