My Internet service at the house is currently with AT&T DSL. We had a lightning strike on Wednesday that damaged the modem. Ever since, I've been trying to get a tech to come out and replace it, and they've now botched two appointment attempts. I'm seriously thinking of switching to HughesNet satellite service (which I happily used for years before we "upgraded" to DSL).

  If your landline sucks, change it!
  
  You must be in a rural place to only have those options. How about just using mobile with tethering?

  We are in a pretty rural area, and it also seems to be a black hole of cellular coverage. We have to drive to the end of our road to get any kind of signal, no matter what service provider we use.
  
  (Cable isn't an option in our neck of the woods, either.)
