  1. I've been talking lately to anxious college students (mostly in computer science) who are nearing graduation. Some have struck out at their first interviews and are wondering how they'll ever be able to break in to the field. I'm curious to know what advice the people here would give to them.

      this is summarized a lot above, but having spent most of my adult life in IT my suggestions are:

       

      1) be well dressed and articulate.

       

      2) even though it's called 'Hell Desk' for a reason, Service Desk-type positions are a great way to get your foot in the door. There are places, too, that still need bench techs and hardware dudes. real-world experience will help your students apply their education. :)

      I agree with everyone! But also a lot of companies and corporations are just dicks! If you sign up online, good luck getting them to notice you,...You'll be lucky to get an email saying you've signed up. And companies that have "Now Hiring" in the window, tell you to go online...And "Online" will say there's no jobs in your area.

      ^Just general statements BTW, not necessarily for the tech world...For other jobs, I'd tell Millenials to be prepared to work, and Stay off your damn phones!
