  1. I've been talking lately to anxious college students (mostly in computer science) who are nearing graduation. Some have struck out at their first interviews and are wondering how they'll ever be able to break in to the field. I'm curious to know what advice the people here would give to them.

      5) Also, do some legwork in figuring out what the company AT WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING does, and sound at least a bit enthusiastic about doing it too.

      That last one is a big one. I've turned down most kids who, when asked "So, why are you applying for XYZ?" they respond with:

      - "Huh, I don't know ..."

      - "Well, I need a job, you know."

      - "I heard you guys pay well."

      - "I've applied to multiple places, and you were one of them."

      - "My career counselor recommended it."
