  1. I've been talking lately to anxious college students (mostly in computer science) who are nearing graduation. Some have struck out at their first interviews and are wondering how they'll ever be able to break in to the field. I'm curious to know what advice the people here would give to them.

      Write software. Do projects. Have something concrete to show and talk about. How did you solve problems, what challenging bugs did you find and fix, and how? Show you're a problem solver and can actually deliver something.

      internships are like job interviews, big companies use them to find promising candidates to hire upon graduation. My advice is keep an open mind and do lots of interviews. show an interest and eagerness to do the job you are interviewing for, and most importantly remember that your degree is a "license to learn"

      I think BydoEmpire makes some good points. Anything they can do to get experience to show that they understand the problem, take action, and get results will help them get something better later (others call this situation, action, result).
