An unexpected Christmas treat for MST3K fans:
-
I wanted to give NES emulation on Android a try, so I just played Legacy of the Wizard all the way through on my NVIDIA Shield (and using no cheat codes!). The directional pad is a little loose, but I'm very happy with it otherwise. Now, on to set up MAME and DOSBox ...

Happy 25th Anniversary to Mystery Science Theater 3000! The first two episodes aired on local TV in Minneapolis on Thanksgiving Day, 11/24/1988.

Somehow I missed this story: a NetWare 3.12 server was finally shut down this past March after more than SIXTEEN YEARS of solid uptime: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/03/epic-uptime-achievement-can-you-beat-16-years/

I wonder if anyone at INTV or Realtime Associates ever guessed that their "quickie" Intellivision titles like Learning Fun I and II would one day become highly sought-after collector's items ...

Student behavior amazes me. I gave them a Microsoft Excel assignment last week, I walked them through every step of the solution in class, and the students didn't pay attention, didn't bother to take notes, and didn't even begin working on it until the day before the due date. Now they're complaining that the assignment is too hard.
-
@CyranoJ: Unfortunately, I'll probably end up doing exactly that, and not just because of this one assignment. I'm just going to have to explain to them that problem-solving skills aren't always easy to obtain, otherwise everyone would have them and they wouldn't be so valuable. But they'll probably be too busy playing with their smartphones to notice.

"There is no greater arrogance than the arrogance of those who assume their intentions justify their actions." A nice encapsulation of everything I dislike and distrust about Google: http://www.roughtype.com/?p=3850

Happy 25th Anniversary to Mystery Science Theater 3000! Here's the original "proof of concept" video by Joel Hodgson, featuring the movie "The Green Slime," which started it all (notice the date on the title card):

Just got some spam which says: "Thiruvananthapuram and other parts of Kerala during the reign of Maharaja Sree Moolam Thirunal." That's the whole message. Why did they even bother?

Does anybody really know what time it is?

I just love eBay buyers who neg you without bothering to contact you first. I've had 100% feedback since I joined eBay in 2000, but not anymore.

This status update was posted from an iPad 3 running iOS 7! Looking great so far ...

I just picked up the Alien Quadrilogy, so I'm finally getting to see all four of the Alien films for the first time (yes, I'm a little slow about certain things).

I can't believe it's already September!

I think I'm going to stay home this weekend, listening to songs about how much fun it is to go out and party on weekends.

"Historians will struggle to locate the precise moment when civilization's wheels finally, irretrievably came off ... but I'll mark the day as having occurred on a recent August weekend, when I watch[ed] grown men with problem skin and five o'clock shadows prance around in pony ears, rainbow manes, and braided tails lashed to their belt-loops ..." http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/dread-pony_748495.html

Just received an NVIDIA Shield and carrying case! I've never used Android very much, and have only played the included Sonic game so far, but it's a great little gaming system! Very solid build quality, with a nice retinal touchscreen and stereo speakers. I'd like to try to develop for it.

Going through an old trailer of ours, we found a box of Apple ][ stuff that I had lost track of years ago, including a "Paddle Adapple" board and a set of genuine Apple Paddles, like these: http://www.willegal.net/appleii/appleii-paddles.htm
