  1. loving how you used the 800XL to resurrect the Rana - v.appropriate! 🙃
  2. mysterious batch of turbo carts turned up - might be of interest: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305483575509
  3. i found an alternative schematic and C31 is shown on page 2 in the upper-left corner 🙃 Schematics XEGS.pdf
  4. this thread-bump inspired me to make new shells for these 2 in XL colours 🙃
  5. man, you triggered a fond memory 🙃 "geru shay cruo!" "maranax infernux!"
  6. 6 months of Northern UK winter sun later (or lack thereof) and here is the status: a pleasing result for such a non-invasive process. the summer sun is quicker (a matter of days) so i may give it another dose when the time comes. the keyboard is progressing nicely but still has some discolouration so it stays in treatment for now. i will report back when it looks good.
  7. would the infogrames guys take it on? they own atari at the mo
  8. see if any chips get hot - the 2x RAM chips at bottom-left try powering it up without the keyboard (or by holding select), this should make missile command kick in
  9. for 400 SVideo output, i replace the dangly RF lead with a dangly 5-pin DIN socket to make it compatible with the other A8 models here is the legend:
  10. might be worth testing the resistance of the trimpot in case it has failed
  11. youll have to design an arduino nano with speaker and a light sensor to trigger a flush noise!
  12. if youre anything like me, youll find it when youve given up and are looking for something else! 🙃
  13. hmm, displaying random characters could imply ANTIC is worth a check. it could be feeding duff data to the GTIA
  14. Yes, i got mine directly. very reasonably priced and good service
  15. you should be aware the XEGs has a diff'rent MMU - i dont know if it will work in a non XEGS machine
  16. yes you will need an SIO plug (or other rudimentry pinned connection) for the other end of the USB cable and a PL23XX driver in aspeqt set the cable as D1, real drive as D2 and boot a copy2000 or copymate type of program on your A8. then swap D1 in the emulator for your chosen ATR and put a blank floppy in D2 and set it off 🙃
  17. 'undred quid? not bad 🙃
  18. coo... youtube link doesnt say how much dough though!
  19. one of these will do it: expensive cable works great with aspeqt for this very purpose legend: USB green to orange SIO (pin 3) USB white to green SIO (pin 5) USB black to black SIO (pin6)
  20. Hi, thanks, its still a little janky! i read somewhere that the blanking signal for SCART RGB enabling is taken from pin9 of the PAL encoder. so i decided i should fit a more suitable monitor port that has sufficient pins for this and audio too. then i can re-try using the SCART connection instead of the RGBtoHDMI device. the green signal is the one thats amiss. when the parts arrive for the above, i will desolder the PAL encoder and fit a socket. if there is still no joy then i will get the oscilloscope out!
  21. merry xmas !! 🎅 i built the cable but still got no display on my RGB SCART TV but i remembered an additional low voltage signal needs to be included in the SCART connections to enable the RGB input. hmmm... i then reached for my RGBtoHDMI device and pondered... i already have a 5pin DIN cable for this for my Oric so i deduced a compatible pinout, found a spare socket, powered up the iron, and set to. audio would have to catered for seperately but this is still the research stage.. it lives! its my oldest system and it has the newest display tech - the irony! 🙃 so, it was the display circuit all along. maybe the pal encoder or an issue in the modulator but for this survivor, it's getting a case mounted RGB DIN port with a 3.5mm audio next to it. it'll be nice to have it permanently reassembled but i got xmas commitments impending! i'll post again when it is in some semblance of order, need to address that " ELECT G ME" signal too
  22. thanks, but i cant see the attachments. do i have to be a member? i have built my RGB mod board, just the cables left to do
