XE's do have fully connected SVideo as standard (except XEGS) but is worth doing some minor internal component mods to further improve the image quality. I like the "Ultravideo XE S-Video mod" Here is an image of the monitor pinout:

circa 1989, i went to a bloke's house to buy a 2nd hand CB radio and the guy also had a Lynx 1 with California games. i got hooked on the bmx game - landing a multi-somersault in the big drop area 😎. he had acquired it in a low-value swap but wouldnt trade it on to me! years later i picked up a Lynx 2 and did the mcwill mod and got a multicart but i still can't ace the bmx game like i did back then!!

make sure you have connected the SVideo GND properly

it is possible that it has powered on - the power LED gets its supply via the keyboard connector can you double check your display cable? or try an RF connection?

sadly i have no photos as i eventually treated the machine to a UAV mod 😎 i recall one of the PCB tracks at the back of the 600XL monitor socket needs to be cut as from the factory it is tied to GND. I found this article that goes into more detail:

it uses a regular 4k EPROM so it could likely work with any burned .bin/.rom 4k file also has thru-holes for another EPROM in parallel - just like the Atari brown carts - perhaps to do 8k files?

would be nice to fit Atari 8 bit gubbins into the Chinese case but use the keypad area for an inbuilt SDriveMAX instead

ah, some sort of dongle. sorry i have no info for that, never even seen an image of one. hopefully someone can advise?

initially i did the mod without the 75ohm resistors and it worked fine. curiosity got the better of me so i fitted them afterwards but the difference was not apparent. i think it might depend on what screen you are using. best of luck!

Hi, apology for my delayed response and thanks to @mimo for providing the 800XL mod. attached is the PAL 600XL mod. it requires removal of 3x components, cut a trace and add a wire. you can add a 75ohm resistor to chroma and luma for a clearer display.

you'd be best off mending the original PSU and re-appropriate the DIN into an A/V out 400/800 power boards are very robust, im quite surprised to see a DC conversion... 🤔

on an unmodified 800XL, SVideo is monochrome you have to do a small soldering mod to get colour
