  1. yes, i have a jiffydos ROM in mine but i have to hold 'restore' key to boot it instead of the standard OS - it should be the other way around! ..the inconvenient distant cousin of a thing that it is..!
  2. people used to put OS A on a switcher to negate the need to load XL Translator/XL Fix for old game compatibility
  3. i have found this: https://www.mattmillman.com/projects/hveprom-project/an-easy-to-build-mcs-48-8748-8749-8741-8742-8048-8049-programmer-reader/ might be worth a try if i can obtain the OS ROM file
  4. well it gets my vote for most unusual use of an A8 machine! 😜
  5. will this help? https://www.mattmillman.com/projects/hveprom-project/an-easy-to-build-mcs-48-8748-8749-8741-8742-8048-8049-programmer-reader/
  6. more info here: https://github.com/ricardoquesada/unijoysticle2
  7. i read somewhere that there was no 'standard' for luma/chroma back in the 8bit days, so computer manufacturers made signals to suit their own hardware. they all did it slightly differently so we ended up with a lot of variety!
  8. its not complicated, the only hurdle is that wire colours can vary from cable to cable so you have to test continuity to identify each wire in addition to the image above, here is the Dsub9 pinout: the only thing i would advise is not to use a modern replica clone joypad - the original nintendo is the one to go for
  9. Im new to these machines, im mainly an Atari 8bit-er but ive dabbled with other makes to a lesser extent. As a kid I was always intrigued by the Philips Videopac G7000 so I just took ownership of one that boots to a black screen with audio. It is the later revision PCB with internal PSU and hardwired joysticks. I did a composite mod but the outcome is the same altho it does confirm a signal is being generated. 5v supply is good too. There doesnt appear to be a TEA1002 IC so im now inclined to swap out the CPU - until i found that they are a mask-ROM type and a generic one will not do. So I considered a 8748 instead as I have a TL866 programmer but it is not a supported device..! Does anyone know where i can source another CPU or is a 'workaround' adapter available for the TL866 programmer to support the 8748? Cheers!
  10. i converted an old NES controller and it works a treat - the second button is 'up' - helps for jump and throttle actions i bought a joystick extension lead as a donor and hacked the socket end off 😎
  11. thanks dude, i appreciate the effort you put in to keep track of new warez 😎
  12. intriguing concept.. i'd never heard of getaway so i looked it up - reminds me of new york city a bit. as a kid, a friend used to come over to play nyc - he really liked burning about the streets and wasnt bothered by the mini games! ..altho i also recall him getting roasted by his nanner for joyriding his uncle's moped on the fields at the back of his house. his parents shouldve got him an Atari to keep his urges in check haha
  13. the 800XLF (PAL version at least) has chroma connected from factory - it is the later model 800XL that uses the Freddie chip
  14. another great game - thanks, youre really spoiling us!
  15. great job! very colourful and the music is also v.impressive style for pokey 🙃 an unusual 'oddball' of a game, i remember it being released for the other 8bit machines and i couldnt fathom the object of the game. i still enjoyed bouncing around and shooting tho haha ..time for a proper go now methinks Cheers!
  16. cheers, i have a few of those and a smaller OLED (as used in goteks) so i'll have a build in the next few days and let you know how it goes 🤔
  17. great work! but is a pico or nano viable instead of the uno? they are easier to accommodate
  18. it is already shared here: https://github.com/robinhedwards/A8PicoCart 🙃
  19. bad ram operations will make it boot to self test replacement RAM chips are obtainable and you can piggy-back them to determine the faulty one(s) here is the schematic set xegs.zip
  20. IIRC, its something in the EPROM code that makes the Tandon mech operate using half-steps and a multi-phase stepper motor. its like the hardware wasnt fully compatible so the code was developed to make it work. I tried a simple, logical approach a while ago but was ultimately scuppered by this strange design:
  21. The WST type 1050 drive is easily modded to do track display but the Tandon type is more complicated and had not been worked out when this thread was live. Unless you mean the SIO2mSD teensy device referred to later on? either way, @Chri O. have you had chance to make any progress?
  22. B-key is nice to have japan-spec 1010 - nicer than the more common one i saw the listing and thought it'd be a nice pickup for someone at that dough but i dont need another
  23. the builder went to extra effort to anonymise the ICs so, do we think theres a windowed EPROM under that warning?
