  1. these are the more expensive type, known as 'turned pin'. these known as are single or (preferrably) 'double-wipe' chips are fine in both but turned pin are built to a higher standard using a machining process
  2. the MMU in the 1200XL is diff'rent to the other XL/XE models - not interchangeable
  3. there is a workaround on the TL866 when burning an ST 27C128. its not in the list so instead you select the AMD brand one (same pinout) and untick the "check ID" box. then the ST chips burns fine. maybe something similar could help you out?
  4. could be large label and a large hand? 🙃
  5. i seem to recall that the nearest universal belt size has a wider band to it and thus it wont stay on the capstan of the motor. if you can find a precise way of slicing it - let me know! any imperfection in the cut will create a weakness that wont last.. this is the reason why people have to buy from the aforementioned supplier. i think he must get them made or something.. there is a bloke on UK ebay that sells the various tape drive belts, maybe message him and see if he can supply or advise an alternative?
  6. All done - using old firefox (v.68) on win7-64 Good luck with PHD!
  7. desolder the socket with the chip still in? then you can soak it in white vinegar or use a heatgun on it 😎 i cant imagine an XE having a ceramic Sally - never seen one in a 400/800 never mind any of the later models..
  8. the capacitor is detailed here: the variable capacitor is 1 of 3 components used in calibrating the FDC chip to it's drive the additional components on your drive could suggest either a repair to bring the reading into spec or (dont quote me!) maybe a mod for copying protected disks / skew mod?
  9. i dont recognise it either, but ive only worked on Tandon 1050s
  10. the original device is LARGE - but looks like DRAM to me: Source: here Jurgen's is a marvel of miniturisation by comparison! not sure about there being a particular ROM requirement but MrMartian did a great job on this and other drives so im pretty sure he would have included it in his upgraded ROM functionality
  11. they look particularly good examples. many suffer from a slight distortion in the smoked cover and they end up not fitting quite right in one corner but yours seem in good order! get yourself the later ROM and an sram-charger apiece and your minted! you could personalise the track display with an alternative colour - blue or green perhaps? how about amber or white? 🤔
  12. good job resurrecting the drive! youll need to identify if the display is common anode or common cathode otherwise, its just match the dimensions and pins
  13. i picked up a 1050 that intrigued me because it had 2x front panel switches added. it turned out to be a Lazer mod that you can switch off and it becomes a normal USD mod it seems to be a happy clone but with a more homebrew approach to the hardware. see pics below and check out the ATR files to see the functions it can do 🙂 laser atrs.zip
  14. does the happy mod require the jumpers to be orientated a certain way? i know the USD does
  15. use high content isopropyl alcohol. the head is ceramic so you dont have to be too gentle if you find a stubborn bit 🙂
  16. could it have been modded for DC in instead of AC power?
  17. @Beeblebrox pm me if you would like some guidance to get you going
