Tried to replay one of my old favorites, Super Thunder Blade, and am now wondering how I made it through this game as it seems to be unplayable for me now and has sadly, managed to age horribly.
With that sad, I still think it's a decent game. I almost beat it again. The collision detection is a pain in the ass though.

I'm fairly OCD. Just wanted to make sure the weight or strain of the add-on wouldn't distress/risk damage to the CDX, which did not come cheap.
Thanks again to everyone for the feedback.
I have had the same set-up nothing will happen. In fact, what you are worried about it technically impossible, and you will se why once you get the 32x. Which you will be getting.
-
Going from what I'm hearing, I think I will just forgo the 32x, for now at least, as it is something of an eyesore and as it sits the CDX is a very, IMO at least, sexy looking console by itself.
Thanks for the feedback/info.
Hmm You will be missing games like: Blackthrone, Golf Magazine, Knuckles Chaotix, and Metal Head
And enhanced ports of games like: Doom, Afterburner, Mortal Kombat II, Primal Rage, and NBA JAM
And 32X plugs are not expensive. It seems to have a better library than the Sega CD imo. Unless you want that Corpse Killer and Mad dog Mccree

I've kind of wondered about that myself. It was a very popular machine that still has many fans today, has a well-known processor and there some development tools for it, yet it seems to have very little homebrew. I can only guess that because there are so many games available already, there just isn't a lot of motivation to do anything new..?
Might be because of a lot of limitations. For example, a SNES or NeoGeo homebrewer might have issues translating the game to the Genesis as you would have certain limitations making you have to work a bit more with the dev tools.
Of course it probably is 6x easier than the Saturn or the Jaguar. and both of those get tons of homebrews so now that I think about it, this is a bit strange.

These were a blast to play on my old Odyssey^2 when I used to play it. I really need to buy a new one but the prices ARGH!
Anyway, There were only 2 games right? There was the first K.C. Munchkin and then there was the sequel Crystal Chase, where it had a centipede?
Because I keep reading that there were four games in the series in some material I have, and considering I have not gotten a new/played Odyssey^2 in years I do not recall.
One more thing, I always heard that K.C. was a success and it seems to still be praised for being pretty good. Was it the best selling Odyssey game? The first thing people name when I mention the Odyssey^2 and from what even I remmeber is the first K.C. Munchkin.

Pretty much all the earlier post crash consoles. I can't go back and play the most systems from 84-88 with the only exceptions being and Master System so i got rid of most of them about a decade or so back, and just now starting to recollect them recently. The first I ditched was TG16/PC Engine. The last one has some good games but wow... And if you get into japanese library it's even more bizzare/poor.

Vgchartz is not a reliable source sadly. At least for me. (How is the X360 still under the Wii?) But that is a very interesting chart because there Atari 2600 numbers are very unusual as well as their Gamegears. I assume they use soe kind of automated counter that adjusts every month to add number as if it was real time.

I had one of those too but sold it. It was given to me by Robert Hurst who programmed some awesome Vic-20 homebrews. I didn't want to get rid of my Vic but it was dying and I was purging unwanted systems or systems like the Vic that weren't working. Would love to get another as I've found some interesting rarer games lately to play.
Here are some of his games BTW, really well done. Berzerk mmx has a voice version that i didn't have when i made this
I will admit the Vic-20 is looking like more of a better option if there is a homebrew scene.

I conned my brother into asking for a 7800 the year I got a NES for Christmas. We played both for a while, once Zelda and Contra hit, it was all over. I still love my 7800 (I still have my brothers 7800 lol) but for me its best value is as a homebrew console thanks to the awesome guys around here. I have over 500 NES games compared to like 30 7800 games.
Do not see this as I hate my 7800 or something crazy, but lets be real...
Is anyone going to take Pole Position over Rad Racer?
Midnight Mutants over Zelda?
Scrapyard Dog over Mario 1, 2, or 3?
I love the old arcade ports, but NES even had Gyruss, Contra, Gradius, Castlevania, Elevator Action, Burger Time, etc.
Nintendo had more AAA titles than the 7800 had titles. Do I wish it had been different? Of course, I love Atari products. I check AtariAge everyday, but history was pretty clear who came out on top in the 8-bit era.
Now I'll take a Lynx over a green screen gameboy or game gear all day long.
I think Midnight Mutants would be better compared to a less stripped down PC adventure games, as that's what it seemed like to me. But yeah you make fair points. It seems like opinions differ by where some people live. In the USAs case anyway.
The Only thing I don't get with the NES is the homebrew scene. There are even dedicated fans for it here, yet for some reason the 7800 seems to have a more active homebrew scene. Something that actually seems to happen Maybe with ever Atari consoles. Maybe because most people who grew up with the 2600 are older and are probably more into programming or something.

Hey, I'm just trying to help here. I only read that you were not sure if all the previous Ataris had been released in Australia and NZ, nothing about Europe. If you had mentioned that somewhere, sorry.
About Australia... it was never part of Europe. Be careful, Australians might take offense. Australia is farther away from Europe than North America, there is countries like Iran and India between us and Australia. It's like suggesting China is in North America.
I think you are mixing up "Europe" with PAL territories. But PAL is purely a technical standard, and it is used in Africa and South America as well. PAL territories meaning Europe for many people is probably mostly because commercially Europe is the biggest PAL-market. African and South American countries usually do not have the same wealth.
You actually nailed this a bit to well because I was about to edit in the word PAL in a previous post. Most of the media over the years always referred to PAL as Europe so i just assumed that it was a thing not worth exploring in more detail. Irony.

I have actually gotten most of these questions answered, or at least in some cases, have sources to base conclusions off of. Thanks to others who send me PM's with information, although it might be interesting for you to post your findings on the thread as well but I am sure you are doing that for a reason i suppose.
Now there is only two old consoles I need a bit of info on, and then i can start the demo.

The most praise? Perhaps, it was kind of a big deal for Dreamcast fans when it came out. But actual sales? Judging by how soon the Dreamcast was dropped after Sonic Adventure 2's release, and judging by the price it sells for these days (about $30, versus the original's $10 - $15), I doubt it sold even as well as the first game. The Game Cube version sold very well for us though when I was working for EB back between 2003 and 2005.
Yes, and many of us were when Sonic Adventure 2 was released on the Dreamcast. And that's exactly when many of us fell out of the series. Coincidence? Hmmmmmmm.
I got my opinion from playing the game myself. I posted a link to that YouTube video as Johnny is one of the most well educated Sonic fans out there. If there is any outlook on the topic worth showing to newcomers that have little desire in actually trying the game for themselves, it's his reviews.
Recent polls? Like anyone cares? What's the point of this topic?
Still the same annoying topics, garbled text (sheesh, you can't even pretend you type different from your five other accounts?), and pointless tirades. Please go away. Really.
Seems that because I have a different look at things that don't align with your interests, I am now on "tirades" as you say. Seems to me you never even looked at my PC thread or other thread and for some reason this one is causing issues. Not sure why, but I suppose I'll keep my interests to myself since I am now going on random "tirades" according to you.

You are clearly incapable of writing the book you claim after reading all your questions. If you are not a troll you're in it way over your head.
After reading all my questions? Does this thread seem related to the book to you? Because it's not. I would appreciate it if you don't use mean spirited tones.

It depends on what Sonic camp you are in. Fans of the classic series will tell you the game sucks. Yet there are younger gamers that grew up with Sonic Adventure 2 (mostly on the Game Cube) that will feel otherwise.
Personally I think it's a mixed bag, filled with more bad than good. The action stages with Sonic and Shadow are great, but the rest of the game is mundane with one of the most convoluted videogame stories known to man.
After the first Sonic Adventure (which had its fair share of issues), it was straight downhill for the series until Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations nearly a decade later.
This is a good review that goes over many of Sonic Adventure 2's issues (note: spoilers are heavy in this one):
1.I hope you mean Dreamcast since that's where most of the sales and praise came from.
2.If you were a kid during the Sonic genesis days you were most likely still at least a mid teens when the Dreamcast came up, and what about the people who did not grow up and were older? Most of the Dreamcast collectors are older people for example. Seems like your age thing is a random assumption.
3.So you got your opinion fro a youtube video?
4.Please keep in mind I personally don't think SA2 is the best but it is often in many "recent" polls to be the one with the lead. if not mostly because of shadow.
5.I ca't really say the first game is any better, in fact, i would say the controls feel lose along with just as bad of a camera, and then there is the fact stages like the Skydeck and the Snow place exist. While Knuckles and Tails stages are kind of meh, some of those stages are decent and not Big the Cat.
6. I think that after SA2 DC version is when the series went down hill, the re-releases were lazy, Sonic heroes was pretty bad, Shadow is mixed I liked it but i would not say it's great, and everything else was pretty bad including the spin-offs.
7.You later talk about Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance became an issue after the first game, the portable games like RUSS and Rivals were also not that good, to me anyway. almost all the spin-off were bad although I may give a slight squeeze to the first Sonic Riders.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 has been selling (and still selling) like a tank for quite some time. The Xbox 360 passed the Wii LTD and i heard rumors that the PS3 did as well.
I was wondering if anybody had the LTD for NA for the PS3 and Xbox 360 or saw any posts around. The lastests estimates would be fine.

The game is widely regarded as the best Sonic game with healthy competiton by Sonic CD followed by Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 2, and the Sonic Generations bringing up the rear.
Sega has tried and failed to replicate on the great gameplay and initial excitement the game caused.

BTW, the 5200 was also not released in Europe.
I said this in that post. Also I was fairly certain back in the 80's for a part that Australia was still considered part of europe.
-
I think it has come to my attention that i would need to know the names of magazines that existed between 1983-1988 in order to get more info during and post.
Hopefully someone here knows the names of these magazines (and where to find issues if not on archive.org)
-
Maybe that's why we got the gamepad as default controllers in Europe?

I don't think those are any more sexier.

You know, I just thought of another thing... did people generaly even know the difference between 2600 and 7800? The 7800 was available in Germany, but as I said nobody had it. And I recall people here just saying they play Atari, or they buy Atari games. Nobody used the terms VCS, 2600 or 7800 outside of Atari's promo materials.
And the 2600 Jr and 7800 even looked very similar. Could it be that in NA it was also not well communicated that they are two entirely different systems? I can imagine the average mom or dad not really knowing what the difference is, and not every shop has decent customer support.
Doesn't change the sales numbers, but I find the idea interesting that some people may not have been aware in what way their 7800 was different or better.
Well, as I said in the other thread, it's like having 3 consoles that look like 5200's as well as a Xegs.
I think the redesign of the 2600 is probably the main cause of confusion and why the 7800 sales cut so big.
As for Europe apparently it did good in new zealand and australia so i guess it was not that confusing. Then again not sure if NZ even had the first 2 systems though.

In 1988? It's more likely the NES really catching up for Christmas 87 that nailed the 7800. I mean, the 2600 was already 11 years old at the time, most games could be bought used; and people that could "only" afford a 2600 at the time wouldn't buy a 7800 anyway so it would't have changed alot.
And unless Atari offered a big price drop precisely in 1988 for 2600 games and systems, you can't link the sales drops and the 2600.
Maaaybe pulling the cord on the 2600 console and games would have played a bit, but just a tiny bit.
The 7800 simply doesn't have the games variety and didn't offered enough in visual and sound to beat the NES.
Yes, I know the 7800 is able to play head to head with a NES when you make a game in hi res mode and use a POKEY chip, but most games wouldn't even try.
I am actually pretty sure that the 2600 may have been why the 7800 sales momentum got cut by 283032423% after being competitive until 1998. I think TC may have it mixedup. The 7800 did do good, for a limited time.
I think the real question is would the 2600 have cannibalized its sales, and more specifically the almost similar looking but slightly less sexy Atari 2600 Jr. redesign?
Well, the controllers aren't that sexy (well I guess the bottom part.)

Just a little fun question I had on my head. These were not the longest lasting computers but they did have some interesting software. I am thinking about rebuying an Aquarius and an Adam, since my Aqaurius has been broken for years and finding a reliable one is taking years. Adam, a few were tested at work in the day but they paled in comparison to the other computers so I did not use it too much.

He's saying that CoCo 2 games won't all work; the Dragon 32 and 64 are both based on that machine but with modifications. As far as i'm aware, most Dragon 32 games will run on a Dragon 64 but there aren't many of 'em to start with without the CoCo 2 library.
Got ya, that's unfortunate. I though the 64 was fully compatible and only the 32 had issues.
-
I am still not understand here. Are you saying you did not by the 64 because it was not compatible with the 32?

Do you prefer the NES or the Atari 7800? Experiement

That is the same conclusion I had but then i realized the 2600,Jaguar,Lynx have high home brews. With the 2600 being very popular and being pushed by companies such as Epyx, and the other two which have more games than the TG16 yet the PC engine has next to no homebrew with it;s 40 American releases.
It's a question we may never have an answer to. Like how many licks does it take to get to the gum in a blow pop.
