  1. I don't know. It's already a mirecle™️ pdubs only created one... Regarding the lack of connection with the original game, it's not that surprising to me and I think we will see more of this from Atari in the future. As we discussed before many times, Atari franchises didn't evolve regularly like Nintendo ones did. So it's very difficult to envision what would a Yars' Revenge game look like in 2024 if other games in the series had regularly been released for the past 40 years... It would have probably evolved quite a lot from the OG, great but basic formula, even though I agree it wouldn't be a Metroid-like. That's why I'm not entirely positive about the game; WayForward just picked the genre they master the most (or Atari asked them to), which is a bit lazy imho. And it was done to death, so I'm personally not excited at all, especially since I don't like the anime style either. WayForward is a talented developer but I don't like everything they've done. But using Advance Wars as an example is dumb since it's a remaster; the content is basically unchanged from the original Intelligent Systems games, and only the art style is new. It's OK to dislike it, but it really corresponds to WayForward's style so there's no reason they might have "improved" since, on the contrary.
  2. They've been making games for 30 years, you know? 🙄 Also, I hope you're aware there are already 3 topics about that game. 😑
  3. Especially the "designed by Steve Wozniak", which is wrong according to Wozniak himself (and I guess he would know).
  4. Also it's important to remember that the EXP, like the OG Evercade and the NeoGeo Mini, uses mini-HDMI which makes it difficult to connect to a TV unless you happen to own such an uncommon cable these days. I personally prefer handhelds so like I said, I never cared for it, and I assume that most of the gamers that enjoy playing on the TV bought a VS anyway. Moreover, the (arcade) Capcom games are also included in the Capcom Arcade Stadium compilations available almost everywhere. I like the idea of playing Mercs in TATE mode, though, but I wish the EXP had better battery. I don't think I'll get the EXP-R however, since I tend to play Evercade games on the Super Pocket anyway.
  5. I think the main reason behind the EXP-R is that the deal with Capcom expired, simple as that. But instead of keeping on releasing the exact same system minus the games, they thought it would be less confusing to make it more "different" - hence the new color and the removal of the HDMI port that was not used very much (I myself only used it once for my review). Absolutely. I don't know if it had been said here already, but Evercade carts are just SD cards in a fancy shell. That's why the Giga Carts don't cost that much more.
  6. To be fair, you're probably the one that posted it in the most relevant section.
  7. I wasn't sure I understood Karri properly but indeed, the Analogue Pocket doesn't dump carts, it's not like the 2600+ or the RetroN systems. That's the whole point of the FPGA, behaving the closest to the original hardware, even though there are necessarily differences (for starters because the RAM can't be recreated in the FPGA).
  8. For the EXP, sure. I don't see how the VS is cheaper though. It's now €109 while the OG similar SKU (one cart and one controller) was €99.
  9. Do you think these games would play well with Evercade controllers though? Or maybe it means one of the new hardware will be a traditional controllers with two analog sticks.
  10. The Brainies was developed in France but Power Piggs, for instance, was published by Titus but wasn't developed in France.
  11. Wow, they dare using a screenshot from the TMNT beat 'em up to tout multiplayer... 😰 I've seen their Pitfall wannabe and it's hilariously ugly. The Amico games look incredibly polished in comparison.
  12. Licensing has no relation to your Switch's firmware, though. If you buy a game, it should still be accessible the way it was, especially if it's in physical form. Don't forget to read the terms of use (if there are some) though, because it's technically possible but it never happens except for games as a service and online heavy games.
  13. My guess is the gameplay is so shitty that it's a blessing the AI-controlled players are weak, so that you can at least have a chance to win.
  14. To be fair, he didn't even need to read the article, he also missed "style" in the title.
  15. I disagree since the concept is to imagine what a Mario game would look like if the Famicom (not the SFC) had a CD-ROM drive, even though I'm not sure it's a good idea to create a whole game, especially since it might get C&Ded indeed. I think a mock-up video is enough for that kind of "what if" concepts.
  16. And I disagree, but I don't mind people using a term as long as they're aware it's not the right one. Some idiots even think "beat 'em up" is incorrect, for instance. 😒 It's perfectly OK to be wrong, but it becomes a problem when you're convinced you're right. Ironically, my English might be better than most French people, and yet that's why I'm aware it's not good enough to publish articles and commercial content without having it checked by a professional translator for instance. Meanwhile I see a lot of people that think they're bilingual but produce awful English all the time. 😩
  17. Regarding names of genres, I spend most of my time - I did again yesterday! - correcting French gamers that call beat 'em ups "beat them all", which doesn't make a lot of sense imho (that's the goal of many games, from Space Invaders to Deathmatch FPS). A stupid French journalist that doesn't understand the point of postpositions coined that term in the late 80s (I guess) and for some reason it caught on very well. So much so that the French Wikipedia page for the genre is "beat them all" as if it was a French word: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_them_all The page even specifies it's mostly a French translation of the English "Beat Them Up" English page, which is ironic. 🤦‍♂️ Fortunately it starts by saying it's a "fake anglicism" but old gamers are so used to it a lot of them still say it (which annoys me all the time). 😔
  18. What bothers me with "single screen platformer" is that while they all are technically platformers, the platforming aspect is clearly not as important as in games like Donkey Kong. These games are usually more about eliminating all enemies with a funny weapon. Edit: btw, I recently beat Saboten Bombers in that genre. It's nice but a bit broken, especially boss fights. Developers even realized it because if you lose a credit against them, the next time they can be killed in one hit.
  19. Oh it wasn't poetry, sorry, it was a quote about constraints often driving creativity. I always found it true but I looked online to see if someone famous said it, and I found that quote.
  20. Not so long ago I stumbled upon an example that doesn't get thrown a lot since it's clearly not a movie for geeks. I hope I'm not confusing films because I watched several Fassbinder movies at the time (from a box set), but iirc In a Year of 13 Moons (1978) features an old arcade center with an awesome electromechanical racing game from Namco, and you can also see what seems to be Duck Hunt (the old version) in the back.
  21. He was also supposed to frame a quote from TS Eliot (or someone like that) I mentioned to put on the wall of their HQ. 🙄 It was hilarious how Tommy really tried hard to rub everyone the right way initially, especially since some members made it unwillingly hard, listing far too many games they wanted to see on Amico, or suggesting very lame, cringe-worthy ideas for games or slogans. 🤦‍♂️ You could actually wonder if they were in fact trolling geniuses in disguise, but I kinda doubt it. He's not an AtariAger but if François was actually a troll for instance (his songs and memes are so bad they're stuff of legend), he would have revealed himself by now. So he's just super dumb. 🙂
