  1. You can just set that in the options in Scramble already. Right? I just set it to where the fire button shoots and drops bombs at same time.
  2. Anyone else going to classic game fest this weekend in Austin? I'm going for sure. https://classicgamefest.com/ Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  3. Yeah, I noticed that too when I scanned it. I assume the center-fold pages 7 and 8 are missing. Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk
  4. I posted this under the Dallas ACE thread, but good to reference here too. See AACE (Austin ACE) newsletter I scanned .. If I find more I will scan and upload them as well
  5. Here's an AACE (Austin, Texas ACE) newsletter from February 1985 that I just ran across and decided to scan. Yeah, these really take you back as a snapshot of what was going on. Atari at CES Pricing Atari Corp news, Lucasfilm and Epyx news, Broderbund news Infocom Hitchhikers guide Hardware DIY project Disk parties AACE0285.zip
  6. Ok all, i have an update regarding Sophia 2 and it makes me feel pretty silly. Yet, it is important I share this I think just in case somebody else runs into similar "challenge". I was previously having a problem where after I installed Sophia 2 it would not get an image through the Sophia 2. And it also would not get an image through the SVIDEO port either. This led me to believe that the Sophia 2 was bad. Well, I gave it another shot a couple days ago with the same initial result. But then as I was looking at the motherboard and the chip that I was replacing, I googled the chip markings out of curiosity, and the description came back saying it was a Freddie chip! What?! Then it hit me, this board is a 800 "XLF" (with Freddie) system. Which means the GTIA is not in the usual lower left hand location like most 800 XL boards. Oh my God ! I have been replacing the wrong chip this entire time. DUH. So I put the Freddie chip back in. Located the proper GTIA chip location to replace, and installed the Sophia 2 there at the correct location. Of course then it worked perfectly! AND WOW, IT IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Finally working, but it was well worth the way. Also, something else I wanted to share... On these 800 "XLF" boards (with Freddie chip), there is an aluminum electrolytic cap right next to the GTIA. It is SO CLOSE to the GTIA that when you try to replace the GTIA with the Sophia 2 device it doesn't have clearance and will not allow it to seat into the motherboard (because the Sophia 2 will hit the cap). My solution to this was to first stack another empty socket on top of the existing socket, and then plug the Sophia 2 into that stacked socket. This gave it the perfect amount of clearance to seat without hitting the cap, but also still low enough that it doesn't have any problems fitting under the keyboard when the system case is put back together. See pictures below.
  7. is the main focus on ATASCII animation, or a static/finished graphics screen done with ATASCII characters as the end state? ATASCII can be used to make a little animated cartoon or short movie, or it can just be used to draw a picture. What is the goal here (or could it be any/all of the above) ?
  8. There's a sucker born every minute, and most of them survive.
  9. Also, on the A8 computers, if a game only uses joystick or paddle input and no keyboard keys are pressed, then the attract mode will kick in during game play. The user can get out of attract mode by pressing a key on the keyboard. To avoid this, the software program must disable the attract mode on a regular basis during the gameplay.
  10. So I finally went to the dentist for some work that was long overdue because of the pandemic. While the dental office I went to had recently been "updated" and remodeled, my appointment was scheduled in one of the rooms that had NOT been fully "updated" yet. I'm sitting there waiting between steps in the procedure and looking around, bored, and then I look up in a corner of the room and realize it still has an old-school Sony Trinitron CRT television hanging from the ceiling. I started thinking, hey, that would be a great retro-gaming TV ! So after the procedure, I asked the dentist what his plan was for that Sony TV. And he said, "you want it?, you can have it... in fact I have two of them (another in the next room just like it)". Not bad, two matching 20" Sony KV-20FS12 televisions! Both work great and have nice pictures with composite inputs on the back and the front. No svideo though.
  11. I love that ATR via email suggestion! Yeah, I use the phone/camera apps that translate "on the fly" and it's really cool for about 30 seconds. Then it's torture, especially for long articles.
  12. SWEET SET UP!!! I am trying to do something similar. Where did you get that enclosure box to put the power board and the drive mechanisms inside of ? That's exactly what I am looking for! -Eric
  13. yeah, i really want to dive into those RMT articles, but I might have to get google translate scanner going for that !
  14. I just received mine here in Austin today, and looks a little tattered on the outside but everything stayed intact it seems. All the goodies inside see fine. Looks like a great issue! Hey, where can we download the English version these days, since the ABBUC web servers was hacked and is down? -Eric
  15. yeah, VERY good question. I actually MUCH prefer MYDOS and that's my normal "go to" DOS for just about everything. What led me down this path was that I wanted to use the ATR-8000 RS-232 via the R: device, and also use Turbo Basic XL at the same time. So far I haven't found a way to load up MYDOS with ATR-8000 RS-232 handler active and also get Turbo Basic XL to work. Really, that's what I TRULY am pursuing here. But, in the process of trying to figure that out, I considered whether the combination of Atari DOS 2.5 + ATR-8000 + RS-232 + Turbo Basic XL was possible ? And I realized I had never seen such a beast. Anyway... being able to use MYDOS + ATR-8000 + RS-232 + Turbo Basic XL would actually be my PREFERENCE though! So if anyway has that solution, that would be even better. -Eric
