I got this game brand new when it was released. I had no idea what I was instore for when I opened it up. It's not like games had previews back then. I was in heaven. I remember I bought and played 2600 games through the crash.

For me Pitfall II, Pressure Cooker, and Frostbite.

At Christmas in '81 or '82 my parents presented us with a gigantic wrapped paper towel box. We had no idea what was in this huge box. We opened it up, and the inside was filled with shredded newspapers. We sifted through the shredded paper to the bottom of the box where a brand new Atari 2600 "Woody" was awaiting. I remember playing Asteroids till 5am. Little by little I built up a collection of 60-65 games. I bought a lot of games myself by not eating lunch at school, and using my lunch money to buy Atari cartridges. However, the crowning jewel was when my mother bought me Pitfall II at Montgomery Wards. I remember being in sheer awe when first playing this game. When I was 19 yrs old I sold my 2600, 65 games, 4 working joysticks, and a set of paddles for a mere $70. I guess I needed some beer money at the time because I obviously didn't care about my 2600 anymore. Pains me till this day that I sold it.

I can remember back when my mom got us Pac-Man and the whole family gathered around the floor model t.v. set to watch us kids play, or when I would pull an all-nighter playing Asteroids non-stop, or when I played Pitfall II for the first time and my jaw dropped at how advanced the game was. And to think that I sold all those games that I had kept in excellent condition. I'm a fool....I'm a fool....I'm a fool

Unfortunately, I decided to get back into Atari after I got married and had a baby. It is hard to justify to the wife...she just don't understand what the 2600 meant to my childhood. Sometimes I have to sneak off to look for Atari carts in the wild, and I just feel so dirty like I'm cheating on her. Well, not really, but that did sound funny as hell

I am a 32 yr old gamer who grew up playing the Atari 2600. I had two systems in excellent condition and had accumulated roughly 60 - 65 games by the time I was 13 yrs old. Had mostly Activision and many rare games. When I moved from home at 19 yrs old I needed some beer money. The NES had just come out, and through my 19 y.o. beer thirsty eyes, the graphics on the "outdated" Atari were "child-like" compared to my new NES. Of course my buddies and I had to drink beer
when we played Mario and Duck Hunt, so to make some quick cash to buy beer I sold my entire Atari collection for $70 to some stranger
Needless to say, it is something I now deeply regret, and I live with the pain everyday. I've now recently got a 2600 again for me and my new infant son to play, but I paid much more than $70 and I don't have the 65 games that I used to have. I basically gave away a piece of my childhood.
Does anybody else out there have similar regrets of selling/giving away your childhood Atari?

When I was a young kid, my Dad would give me my lunch money everyday for school. Well, I was addicted to my Atari 2600, so I would always skip out on buying/eating lunch so I could take that week's worth of lunch money to buy games. Needless to say, I was a real skinny kid
Judging by my belly now, I should go back to skipping out on lunch.
