  Thanks for not thinking of today as a "happy" day off work. I am saddened - I now only know one veteran. All my other veteran friends have passed.

  But it is a "happy" day off work. And yes, I know veterans; my father was a veteran (two tours in Viet Nam), and I honour him in other ways.

  Memorial day is for remembering those who lost their lives while serving their country. Veterans day (Nov 11th) is to honor living veterans. They are more or less interchangeable for most civilians.
