      For me it's less the pixels & more the style of game. I don't need another rougelike metroidvania in my collection.

      There's only a few "pixel art" type games that have interested me... Fez was interesting for a while, Shantae is pretty fun, and I still want to play Shovel Knight, haven't yet, though.

      I never cared for them, either. Most of them looked the same and weren't really as "retro" as their creators intended them to be: there were too many colors on the screen at once, or the pixel sizes weren't consistent, or they combined blocky pixel sprites with smooth antialiased text, etc.
