  1. Just finished reading The Time Machine by HG Wells.  A short but mind-blowing book.

I don't think I've read the book, but I did see the 1960 movie a year or two ago. Quite good! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054387/

Oh yeah!  One of my favorite authors!  I recommend all of his main books!  I've read The Time Machine, War of the Worlds, In the Days of the Comet, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Invisible Man, Food of the Gods, The Kingdom of the Blind, Empire of the Ants, The Crystal Egg (A favorite short story), and more!... yet I guess he still has other stuff I need to read!  I better get to it!

  2. My vote for worst website in 2023 is FedEx.  It's awful.

Best actually made a list of the worst site designs: Bad Websites - 15 Worst Website Designs to Avoid in 2023 (websitebuilderexpert.com) I don't know the gentleman who owns it, nor can I speak to his service, but that website is so AltaVista.

  3. Come play Zero 5 and Bubble Bobble in the Jaguar HSC!  New round up today!

actually it wasnt a typo, Im just so bad at satisfying my partner that I instinctively replace the first letter of every word that follows with "uck" with the letter "c". its like a freudian slip

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I use the letter F.   Just kidding,  but yeah Dicktales on NES isn't too bad...

Now, if anybody from YUM BRANDS is reading my reply, and of course I see no reason to assume they're not (heh),  I would Politely request that Taco Bell get off its duff and put out a game for the Game Boy...(Ahhh,  In a Perfect World...) **Sigh**

It's a cool trend I hope increases. Similar to the Running Man Atari game, releasing commercial games for old systems is epic.

  5. Pat Sajak announced he is retiring after 41 seasons hosting Wheel.  End of an era!

Was wondering that myself..will Vanna stay? I'd probably retire if I were her, but you never know what people's motivations and financial situations are, etc.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Vanna White can come hang out with me!  We'll have Chock Full o' Nuts coffee and go to the Eastern European Buffet.

  6. New Jaguar High Score round is up!  Come play Skyhammer "Battle Mode" and Joust!

  7. I have some of the most rare consoles and games on the planet in my collection and when I show it to my neighbors, they are without fail like "Oh a NES/N64....COOL bro I remember that!"

I like how certain visitors, especially if they are female, look at these consoles and think they are some kind of complicated music cassette players.  Often these same people, when I explain they are video game consoles, have less then zero interest in them (probably because they are slightly embarrassed and disappointed since they thought they were music related).

There was one time about 5 years ago when old game systems came up talking with a coworker, and she (yes, a girl, in her early 30's) said "Oh, we have an old one at home called a Turbografx 16 we played as kids, have you ever heard of that one?"

Only time a "normal" person ever mentioned a system like that that I can recall.

Sadly she didn't want to sell it.

Hahaha... A year ago, I was on an overnight field trip with my son's class. Me and a mom of my son's classmate broke away for awhile and we're walking along a beach.  I mentioned my son and I were playing a game on an old Atari system.

      "The 2600?" she asked.

"Um... Surprised you know that. Actually it's another more obscure system."

      "The 5200... Or the 7800?"

I told her I loved her.

  8. The next round of the Atari Jaguar HSC is up! Come play WMCJ or Wormhole 2000 today!

  9. RIP Jerry Springer.  "Jerry...Jerry...Jerry!"

    1. Keatah

      Keatah

His intents were good, like Donahue and other shows. Just that his producer wanted more ratings so he had to make the show coarser and appeal to the unemployed daytime television viewer. And as ratings picked up, it went downhill faster and faster.

    2. bent_pin

      bent_pin

On to that great big stage fight in the sky.

A fellow that I grew up with went really wrong, had a bung of kids with a bunch of different women, joined a gang, got in trouble with the law, the works. He went on Jerry, twice. Him, his sister, and three of his baby mamas. The producers would stand in the wings with stacks of hundred-dollar bills. They'd tell them to do something outrageous then shove hundos into their hands until they did it.

But I'll give him this. He was an entertainer with staying power. That is no small achievement in this world. Controversial or not, he did add something to society.

  10. Anyone clean the crap out of anything that comes in their house?  I can't stand the filth I find on any used games/movies/music I buy, and there is a lot of it!

It's weird because every videogame I bought brand new...still looks brand new...dating back to the late 80s.  I guess people mud wrestle in a pit with their games...or tow them behind their cars on family vacations, or chain smoke in a phone booth with them?  Who knows...

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Right?  I'm the same.  For the really old stuff,  my stuff still looks brand new,  but ebay purchases usually look like a dog bit into it after a monster truck ran over it...

I like to clean the toe jam buildup in controller plastic seams, clean out fans and dust inside the consoles/laptops. Sometimes rebuild batteries on older laptops. It bothers me that inside it's dirty inside/ running inefficiently.

  11. Come play Bubsy and Biopede in the new round of the Jaguar HSC, posted today!

  16. Are there any good Indiana Jones games?  I know the NES ones suck...but there must be at least 1-2 good ones out there on some platform.

Tagging @Rick Dangerous as this status update may be hard to find.  Since you are downtown (ish) the 6th floor museum really is kind of a neat thing to visit.  We also have the George Bush presidential library if you are into that sorta thing.  Hope you enjoy your time in Dallas.

Amazing trip!  Lots of nightlife, not enough games, just played some Steam Deck in bed at the hotel.  For history I did go see the JFK assassination site which was wild to see in person after reading about it and seeing all the documentaries over the years.
