  1. Since I made this post, my gamegear started having a horrible screen flickering problem where the symptoms are as if someone is constantly turning the brightness wheel up and down. I had it checked out and there's nothing wrong with the caps (which have been replaced), the backlight bulb, or voltage going to anything. In contrast my lynx seems to be working just fine... Kind of a disappointment since this happened just over a month into owning a gamegear, after I had bought many cartridges Ah well, guess I'll look for another after the holidays.
  2. Wow this was amazing. Reminded me of Rez for the dreamcast/PS2.
  3. Been playing nothing but gamegear for the last 4 weeks, until the gamegear started exhibiting weird screen flickering problems (the caps were supposedly replaced already). Anyway, I fired up my lynx for the first time in a long time, and it very quickly felt to me like the superior handheld. GG has an advantage with Japanese style games and loads and loads of platformers, I'd say lynx has the edge with sound and graphics and overall creative game design for stuff that is not platformers.
  4. I wonder how much of game gear was copied from lynx (outside of the overall idea of a handheld system with small screen, to be held horizontally) since it was sega recycling its master system hardware rather than copying any of the cool things such as scaling, that the lynx could do.
  5. Zarlor Mercenary! Love it! My favorite game on the lynx and a surprisingly detailed and feature rich game for the era and the hardware!
  6. Here are my first pickups and my early impressions. Winter Games is kinda like Alpine Games/California Games with a selection of winter olympics themed mini games. GP Rider is kinda like checkered flag, a pretty solid racing game with the tech of the era. G Loc is like Blue Lightning, though with its own strengths and weaknesses (good 3d style graphics but of course none of the impressive sprite scaling of Blue Lightning). Space Invaders is a nice update on the original arcade game with a bunch of tricks to add variety, somewhat remniscent of the various arcade ports to the lynx, and the sonic games are pretty strong 1st party platformers for the most part, not sure that there's a good comparative lynx game for those.
  7. There was one for the gameboy as well. This would have been a completely unnecessary add-on for the lynx, as it was for these systems
  8. Is there an easy way to take video of an emulator? I'd like to upload long plays of lynx titles and would prefer to do it through emulation for good video quality and maybe save states if needed.
  9. Cool. One thing I never needed was a louder speaker on my lynx. The stock one on my lynx 1 could already be turned up much higher than I would ever want.
  10. If its truly never been handled I'd check the battery compartment when you get it. I think brand new lynx 2s might have come with batteries installed in them back in the day, which would have leaked by now. I thought I read this somewhere...
  11. I only just noticed my score was beaten! Not a contest entry since the contest is long over but here is my new high score
  12. I have an Atari Lynx 1 that I bought from best electronics a few years ago. It's always worked fine but I believe it is unmodified and still has the very old capacitors and zener diode in it. I understand it is pretty common for these parts to go bad over time, including permanently damaging the lynx, so I'd like to futureproof my lynx by paying someone to recap it and replace the diode. The only thing peculiar to my lynx is that best electronics filled in some of the screw holes with rubber cement to prevent people from taking the system apart and voiding their limited time period warranty. Let me know if you might be able to perform this service for me. I'm located in the USA and would prefer if the person is in the USA as well to avoid a potentially expensive shipping bill.
  13. I don't think its ever been offered for sale...
  14. Those sound like good suggestions. I got hip to Galaga 91 from emulation - I love it, definitely need to look for a way to get it.
  15. Yeah but even if the seller ignores you, ebay has its own dispute resolution process and I guarantee you it will result in a refund for you since things are so cut and dry. EBay is very pro buyer.
  16. This ought to be pretty cut and dry, the seller has clearly advertised one thing, and what you received was only a piece of it.
  17. I just got a gamegear and am looking into what games I should get for the system. I really like the lynx's library and its ports of american arcade games. I'm already interested in the GG port of marble madness, frankly I think that game would have been a perfect fit for the lynx and its library. Anyone with both systems or coming from the standpoint of a lynx owner have any suggestions for whether there are some games in the gg library that would have been at home on the lynx?
  18. Pretty cool. I'd personally prefer a different shaped shell since that one is so closely identifiable with the 2600 and it's 1970s aesthetic. Maybe the 2600 jr...
  19. Cool! Is this a game that was worked on during the jaguars commercial lifetime or later?
  20. This was interesting. So the guy had the cd drive molds as well back in the day... There was no discussion about what happened to those but I guess they are long gone.
  21. Of all my jaguar games, I've probably put the most hours into Raiden. I found myself coming back to it because of its simple pick up and play arcade gameplay. It's not arcade perfect and its not like its the best shoot-em-up ever, but for the Jag's library, its probably the game I've had the most fun with in the modern era. Plus its 2 player co-op so its an excuse to get your friend to play jaguar with you.
  22. This is amazing, I always wanted to have a consolized lynx with external controller and video out. Awesome to see someone do this project through to completion. Incidentally, would you consider building another and selling it to me
  23. Cool. Looks like a nice fresh concept for the lynx!
  24. Maybe something's off with the ribbon cable to the screen
