  1. I'm unfamiliar with the market price of things on eBay these days but dang those prices are giving me sticker shock.
  2. Might want to also try inserting the cart all the way, and then gently pulling it out a tiny tiny bit. I had a few carts that loaded up more reliably when I did this as opposed to keeping them inserted 100% as far in as they could go. Also, I assume this might not simply be an issue with the brightness wheel turned all the way up or down so the screen looks blank when looked at head on
  3. Just spent a little extra to get the snug fit protectors that only seem to be for sale in Europe. Also picked some up for 3DO boxes from a different site. Is there any place that might sell the correct size for the early larger boxes? I have Blue Lightning in that style and its great to have the full artwork, which was truncated on the small box version.
  4. I could never make out what the enemy sprites were supposed to be in Hydra, it was illuminating when I emulated the arcade rom to compare it to the lynx version and could see "oh that's supposed to be a tugboat" etc. The gameplay was pretty much the same on the lynx, but the reduction in size of the sprites hampered my enjoyment of the game because I just felt like I was steering and shooting at odd piles of pixels. Road Blasters on the other hand survived the transition to the small screen and is pretty great!
  5. Love hearing the arcade sound and sfx. It really adds to the mood. Looks like this is shaping up to be something really awesome! Definitely deserving of a home console port and it feels appropriate on the jag.
  6. Awesome, the arcade music is so moody, it sounds like a 1970s thriller movie soundtrack. I need this on cart right now! Three cheers for CyranoJ, worker of wonders!
  7. I just learned about this (at the time) unreleased game for the atari ST. It looks an awful lot like Power Factor on the lynx. Anyone know anything about the relationship if any between the games?
  8. Hey, we're coming onto a year from the last news I am aware of on this awesome looking project. Is there any incremental news on the development? The graphics and demo movement look phenomenal, like cho ren sha 68K or a paired down Truxton on the 7800. Sorry if I missed more recent news or discussion on this one
  9. I have the original cardboard boxes for the following accessories. These are just stock pictures I found of the boxes, but mine look exactly like this. $15 plus shipping for both of them together, or best offer
  10. Is the Jaguar Bible still for sale on eBay? I seem to recall this was a 3 ring binder of advertisements and reviews from 90s game mags pertaining to the Jaguar. For a four figure price. I'd say for collectors only but I don't think anyone really wanted it.
  11. *want I trimmed my Jag collection down to 5 games, but I love Xevious so I'm happy to up it again to 6.
  12. Here's a lot that doesn't seem that bad compared to what else exists at the moment. 2 controllers, 5 games, most of which are pretty decent, auction starting at $200. Might get lucky and get the lot for closer to $200 than the $300 BIN. Definitely a decent lot to experience the system and decide if you want to hang on to it or sell it on after a couple months. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-Jaguar-Console-w-2-Controllers-5-Games-Wolfenstein-3D-/331923168710?hash=item4d48299dc6:g:mwkAAOSwXrhXnAV0
  13. Makes sense to me to include the Terminator 2 reference as it was by far the most widespread public exposure this obscure device got. I knew instantly what he was talking about based on the reference and didn't think it was the exact prop from the film.
  14. I agree at this point. I've owned at least three jaguars, and previously purged my entire jag collection only to buy stuff back a couple years later. I've realized I need to simply hang on to the system itself at all costs, which somehow, I've formed some kind of weird emotional bond to. But I think my current strategy of focusing exclusively on games that I personally like rather than games that the retro community says are good has been the right move for me (there's certainly overlap between those two categories, but they aren't 100% the same). I also halved my lynx collection and paired down my 32x stuff. I've seen collectors/retro gamers purge all their stuff before and I think that is not for me, too many good memories of this stuff and I do enjoy playing it, but I recognize from my own experiences it can get depressing and distracting if you feel like you have too much chaff that you'll never be interested in, and that you've become a librarian and custodian dedicated to preserving and displayed a bunch of stuff that you don't even care about. Reducing has re-centered my experience to the original concept, gaming with games that I like to play.
  15. Added a reference to super burnout after I remembered I sold it a year ago.
  16. Periodically people ask what the top games or the must have 3 or so games on the system are. Well, somewhat related to that mental exercise, several months ago, I realized I wasn't playing my jag much anymore, so I decided to get rid of the stuff I felt I'd never really play seriously again or be that interested in showing people. After that exercise, here are the 5 games most important to me, and what my collection boiled down to. So far I have no regrets and appreciate what I consider to be an increase in the quality of my collection (by removing stuff I felt I would never play or want to show people again). Stuff I kept: -Cybermorph: it was the pack-in, a system exclusive, and the first step atari put forward in the consumer market to show off the jaguar. It's also not that bad a game really... so it was a keeper -Wolfenstein: Lots of instant action at a very fast pace in this game, i prefer it to doom on the Jag for a pick up and play experience. -Tempest 2000: A core part of the jag experience imo. This game more than any other is an excellent demonstration of the Jag's capabilities, was originally designed for the jag, and is pretty fun too. -Raiden: great pick up and play game with instant arcade style action. Not the best or most authentic port of the arcade game, but it does a decent job and has good 2d graphics. Also good for 2 player. -Skyhammer: This game, in my opinion, is basically what I would have wanted from the jaguar back in the 90s. A 3d texture mapped polygon game that has a dark future kind of theme. I don't play this one as much as the others since I have a tough time finding the mission objective hidden objects, but I like to have it on hand to periodically wow myself (or a friend) about the Jaguar's 3d capabilities. Stuff I got rid of: -Doom: I agree its the best console port, but playing it on the jag didn't seem to be the best way to experience it. I also miss the music and the ability to play it at a higher resolution. -Checkered Flag: awful game that literally gives me a headache. -Rayman: pretty solid game, but its a little too twee for me these days. It's also pretty punishing in the later levels where I was stuck. Since the game commands such a high resale value, I sold it and put the money to other game items I felt I would enjoy more. -Missile Command: the graphics are cool for the jag but I never got into the gameplay that much. It didn't hook me with gameplay like Raiden/Tempest/Wolfenstein or wow me with the graphics like Skyhammer. -Elansar: awesome game, but I beat it twice and didn't see myself playing it again anytime soon -Club Drive: This always felt like an unfinished game to me. I never got into the controls or presentation, it just wasn't to my taste at all. -Val D'isere: I guess this game is ok, but it always seemed way below the jaguar's capabilities and unlike say Raiden, didn't have intrinsically fun gameplay. -Super Burnout: I agree with the consensus that this game has a very smooth framerate and a good amount of polish. I never got into the gameplay and there didn't seem to be anything to unlock or explore other than the tracks and bikes that were already available. So after experiencing it for a few months I felt like I'd had my fill.
  17. I need a battery pack for my nomad! Anyone have one available?
  18. I got a refurbished one from Best Electronics a couple years ago. It's in excellent cosmetic condition except that the D-pad came with a small gauge in the plastic. I'd easily recommend Best Electronics if he's still selling them at a decent price.
  19. It was released late in the lifetime of the lynx and maybe as a result they did not make as many as other games.
  20. This was someone's childhood era customized lynx. He posted these pictures on a different game forum circa 2008. I just happened on that topic while looking up other stuff. No idea what the current whereabouts or condition of this lynx are as of 2016.
  21. I tend to think of it as akin to an old dos computer from the first 4 years of the 1990s. I played a lot of dos games back then and many lynx games have that feel (games designed by westerners on a low budget, constrained by significant hardware constraints such as number of colors possible to be displayed, yet still impressive/creative and fun! Many high quality games that were not based on an established franchise, such as zarlor mercenary, but which had just as much if not more detail and capabilities as the more established arcade ports)
