  1. For me it would be: -Raiden (easiest to pick up and play, good quality all around even if it doesn't seem like its pushing the jag in any respects) -Tempest 2000 (defining game of the system, cool music, 3d graphics and effects, simple to understand gameplay) -Wolf 3D (very fast and arcadey, nice high resolution graphics, lots of action. Easy to pick up and play) -Skyhammer (on the list b/c I think it has some of the most impressive graphics of any Jaguar 3D game) Haven't had a chance to play atari karts or rayman since they've been a little outside my budget, but those each seem like games with fun gameplay, good variety of graphics, good production values and exhibit the abilities of the jag as a successor to the 16 bit console era.
  2. Here was some discussion on a gold lynx a long time ago. It seems that there is in fact what is likely a real gold lynx sold by Curt Vendel, which does not really look like this lynx, and there are rumors that a UK atari distributor held a competition with a gold lynx being the prize. If this is the case, as with other lynxes, it would likely be gold paint applied to a normal lynx. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/124607-rare-gold-lynx/page-2
  3. I might suggest baking the cart in the oven to reflow the solder, but if you cannot separate the circuit board from the plastic, you probably shouldn't do this due to the plastic melting
  4. My atari has been broken for 10 years now, but I remembered that after working fine for a number of years, at a certain point in the late 90s, my artillery duel cartridge would have a jumpy screen. I always dismissed this as some kind of sign of the cartridge going bad somehow. Then later I read that it could be caused by an incompatibility with the TV, and maybe the jumpy screen coincided with hooking the atari up to a different tv... I was messing around with an online emulator for 2600 games, and low and behold, when I load up artillery duel, it has the same jumpy screen issue that I remember on the real hardware. http://www.virtualatari.org/soft.php?soft=Artillery_Duel What the heck is the problem here? I kinda want to play this game! Moreso, I'd like to pick up a new 2600 and see if my cartridge works/can be fixed (in addition to all my other old neglected 2600 carts).
  5. Way to go, I know who to turn to if my Lynx 1 ever breaks down! Very reasonable prices imo.
  6. I saw a goodwill auction once that contained the duranik atari lynx bonus cart and various songbird lynx games with no significant description of what the games were. I also saw a Zaku loose cart for the lynx once, that is also a small print run lynx game from the modern (post 2000) era. Implausible, but not entirely impossible that BS could be a loose cart.
  7. Another little trick is to insert the cart and then gently lift it up a tiny bit in the connector, letting the connector connect to a slightly different spot on the cart contacts. Also try inserting and re inserting a cart a stupid amount of times (like 30 times) I've had some luck with that, I guess it might help scrape off oxidation on the connector or cart. I think you'd be able to tell if there wasa bent pin in the cart slot. Even one pin would probably be visible for someone looking fora bent pin that doesn't fit in with the shape and height of the other pins.
  8. Bump, refreshed the items, identified items that are already sold/no longer available. Lots of cool items still available and waiting to come to your home!
  9. I used to think it was a bug or oversight in the background of the halfpipe stage: there would be 3 people on the grass while you were skating and 4 people when you were not (ie after a crash), but I suppose the fourth person is your skater with the red tanktop on.
  10. Nice look at California Games. I agree, it's an all around great collection of mini games. Btw, in case you haven't figured it out yet, you can pump your skater up and down the halfpipe by pressing down while the skater goes down the ramp, and pressing and holding up when he goes up the ramp, while pressing one of the buttons to do a 180 in the air so you are always pointed forwards.
  11. For me, it has to be a combination of the obscurity and console exclusive nature of many of the retail games (as opposed to... intrinsically fun gameplay, which I find lacking in many titles). The Jag has a ton of console exclusives, and since it had such a low install base at the time (and probably more so today in terms of active users), the knowledge that I can play a bunch of rare games that are out of the norm of what people played then, and what the majority of retro gamers take the time to play now, makes the system and its library intriguing to me. Each time I boot up Hoverstrike in 2015, I'm partaking in an experience that very very few people are doing.
  12. Here's what is left and some prices. Every game pictured comes with the game disc/cartridge and manual. Please purchase a minimum of $10 to make it worthwhile for me to drive to the post office Prices do not include shipping. XBOX Dark Summit $5 Tony Hawk 4 $5 GENESIS Roadblasters $14 DREAMCAST Bangai O $55 (European version, works fine on US tvs) Armada $20 ATARI LYNX Crystal Mines II $5 Tournament Cyberball $7 (sealed NIB) Stun Runner $12 Steel Talons $7 Hydra $7 QIX $32
  13. Wow that sounds very intriguing!
  14. I feel like a handful of games show the peak capabilities of the Jag. For textured 3d graphics and something closest in look and feel to a PS1 or Saturn title, my gut feel is that Skyhammer is pushing the hardware a good bit. Skyhammer also seems pretty advanced in terms of having sample based music akin to a mod, compared to synthesized midi esq music. I would imagine sample based music would take more memory. I've never played battlesphere, but it seems to me that Skyhammer pushes more geometry with all of those city buildings. For 2d on the level of a PS1 or Saturn title, my logical choice would be Rayman. Lots of colors, nice resolution, and huge variety in terms of lush and large background graphics. It really very clearly looks like a "next gen" game compared to almost any 16 bit platformer. Is it actually a more fun game than every 16 bit platformer? Well, that's a different question
  15. If you were to take the guys out of the plastic shell for one of them I suppose it would fit, but that's probably more trouble than its worth. Thanks for checking.
  16. There are some people on youtube who intentionally pull cartridges out of certain old systems to see what kind of glitches might result. I've seen it done with sonic on sega genesis. Unfortunately, I wouldn't say that anything cool ever happens. Either the game plays like normal, or there are a few pieces of corrupted graphics that are never that interesting, or else the game doesn't boot up. On the other hand, it was kind of cool to slightly pull a gamegear cartridge out of a gamegear back in the day, because if one of the cartridge contacts on the side did not connect, the gamegear would switch to "master system mode" where it would change the screen resolution and maybe the palette, while leaving the game fully playable. Was kind of cool to mess around with if you're a bored kid in the 90s
  17. Please try it out! It's 2015 and we need to know!
  18. So has anyone tested out the functionality of a stacked jag cd yet? I know some of you have more than one!
  19. It's got to be more unstable Wonder if you could read a game cart through the top one (if they were all in working order and plugged in).
  20. Jaguar tower of power? Shamelessly copied from this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/AtariJaguar/comments/3sekn1/look_what_came_into_my_shop_today/
  21. I got a used jag and it came with an ac adaptor for use with an electric sewing machine. I've used it for the past 2 years and it hasn't blown up the jag yet...
  22. Cheap and great games: -Battlemorph (cd game) -Raiden -Wolfenstein
  23. And now the moment you've all been waiting for. Seems like playing the slowed down/smoother version on an emulator could make a significant difference. I'm no checkered flag ace, and my run on an emulator was just one go around the track after not playing the game at all for over a year. Based on LianneJaguar64's data, it seems like turning on fog (trying to get a better framerate but with reduced draw distance) might not be a net positive. checkered flag data.xls
